ANNOUNCEMENT Game Balancing Pt.3

What would you have preferred, out of interest?
I still disagree and will never agree with this state of affairs regarding mining. I believe that the developers have gone too far. In the evening I will fly to fight in my favorite conflict zones. But something tells me that you won't earn more than 20 million / 1.5 hours there, but you can lose 50 if you blow up a corvette or anaconda ... will see

Pirates aren't gankers. Neither are soldiers.
Just because the mark chose option B of "your money or your life" doesn't make a pirate a ganker.
Just because the person opposing another person in a war fled the CZ and the soldier managed to chase them down and interdict them doesn't make a soldier a ganker.

No it doesn't and I've had my eyes opened to the fact I should really have used the phrase 'seal clubbers', but this is a distinction I hadn't made, as I didn't think of pirates as gankers, I think of them as pirates. As for soldiers, I think of someone has left the CZ, they've left. You can't chase an NPC out of the CZ, so why should you be able to chase a player? If they've retreated, they've retreated. If you get them while they're charging their FSD, they're fair game.

To be perfectly clear, a Pirate who doesn't kill, should gain a bounty, but not noteriety and possibly a considerably lower reward PVP mission against them perhaps? So they're still huntable, making piracy still a dangerous career path to choose, but due to not killing the player and the lack of noteriety, the mission only lasts say an hour and only one CMDR can take it? Does that seem fair?

I imagine many people planning to get quick combat rank won't be! Glad to hear you enjoy CZs, which will go some way to make up for it.

Hey Bruce !

do you know if there is any planning at rebalancing the rate at which Elites ranks are earned ? IMO Trade and Exploration are way too fast to earn and Combat is way too long. I really think that some rebalancing would be needed here because being Elite doesn't mean a lot except for combat right now. Seen new player ting double Elite in a matter of 1-2 weeks.

Thanks for all the amazing job you are doing at FDev ! So exciting to see all the things going on in ED lately !

Are you the other friend of Bazmeson's ?
no, I don’t know who Bazmesson is. Although I have a guess who it is. But I am adding to the list of games that will be correctly viewed on my YouTube channel. Without licking the developers' ass =) I am sincerely sorry for the three top bloggers / streamers who have put a lot of effort into this project, but the last two weeks have become indicative.

They've still got bonds. They're still a threat. If they leave the system entirely it's one thing, if you catch them still active in the system then they're still a combatant.

If the fluff messages in the station services were accurate, then a system at war would be an actually dangerous place to be rather than just having a few entirely optional PoIs in the system where you can shoot people. Personally I think all areas controlled by a faction at war/civil war (including the system as a whole, in the case of the controlling faction) should be treated as lawless.

Ok, so the theory is then, that if two Player factions go to war in a system, any player can take out missions for one of those factions and could then interdict an opposing player (Provided they were opposing, either because they belong to the opposing faction, or have signed up to a mission for the opposing faction) and kill them, adding them to their 'kill roster' for their own mission. I'd be up for that.

Good points. But what will prevent people to just add to the block list those who kill them and contuinuing making BGS, now in open, but without any enemy on their sight? It is not a "just do that" thing, it is a major overhaul of some game mechanics and tools.
Agree, but your argument is that you can't fix everything so fix nothing. Not everyone will block everyone, and you could get anonymous mercs in to monitor and assist. Still, the rampant abuse of block to manufacture a personal PG in open is a good point.

Instead of pure credit-based grind, ranks for exploration and trade could be like this:
Exploration: scan x planets of each type, map y planets of each type.
Trade: profit made from commodity x. Z commodity hauled to system affected by draught/lockdown ect.

Add "carrying bonds" to that list and that could be pretty dank. Bonus points if pledging to a side persists for a little while even after you leave a CZ.

Bruce can i just say, even killing only scouts, the combat rank grind is not 'quick', it still takes a very long time and is far far more difficult than the other elite ranks. I understand why this has changed, but the consequence is that the elite ranks are now even more unbalanced than they were before.

*only if you were attempting to 'farm' Thargoid scout kills in order to artificially boost your combat rank. Those of us who rank 'traditionally' aren't impacted at all. (me: Deadly 40% after 3 years of not following whatever the latest goldrush is..)

Thargoid combat bonds will provide 4x as many credits as before.

Does this mean a Thargoid Scout will pay 40,000 instead of 10,000 now? I feel this is a bit overlooked because people are too focused on the combat rank reduction.

That is still way too low and not in line with the other changes to bounty hunting payouts.

I would also like to see the bigger groups of 8-12 thargoid scouts have reward scaling even if it's just bigger bounties for individual kills.

Apparently way over your head
I think you misunderstand how big the bubble is, how many systems there are, how spread out activity is and that while some BGS and power play groups and players may agree on doing it in open only, they do not necessarily have conflicts with each other.

Just adding my twopenneth on ranks, echoing a lot that has been said, but for me, (as someone who is not Elite in any category!) Trade is too easy and Combat is (way!) too hard, and I think Expl is about right. I've been playing the way I play, trying to avoid grinding, but when I've committed time it's mainly been to flying large distances (I don't 'explore' as such), for coming on for two years and that's got me to Pioneer; however the last six months I've been doing a lot of combat, especially in the CGs but beginning before that. In terms of the skill level I've gained, and the amount I've been focussing on the core point of Combat (blowing stuff up) to a greater degree than I ever focussed on Explo (e.g. scanning stuff) I reckon I should be somewhere comparable to my Expl rank. But I'm about halfway up 'Master', and it's only going to slow down and get more of a grind from there!
