Its a shame Nvidia don't focus on actual real world performance metrics with the new card. Who cares about niche RTX features when we really need to know how it performs against its older GTX 10x series siblings (something that was totally missing).
ED pulls a Half Life 1 trick in that it looks and runs well on all machines. If it ever went the way of Star Citizen and became graphics intensive it would become a niche of a niche.
Yup, the ray tracing stuff is cool and it'll be interesting to see what the gaming industry comes up with to take advantage of it (although I'd have thought it would be better suited to more traditional close environment games like racing sim's and first person shooters than ED where the nearest light source is 5000ls away) but I agree - I'll be interested to see comparisons of traditional GPU benchmarks rather than new "Gigaray" statistics. I guess 2080 vs 1080 comparison reviews will be appearing soon(tm).
