I work in commercial software dev delivering high availability online servers to the Financial Services industry. We use open source software to reproduce thousands of users hammering down servers, it's really not difficult.

I presume the reason is money actually. Bandwidth costs and Frontier is not Valve or Amazon.

Indeed, and Frontier manage their costs by deploying their servers on the Amazon cloud, so can turn up/down capacity at the flick of a switch.

He did? Oh well, doesn't change my point though because, as i said, bandwidth costs. But i could be totally wrong and maybe they simply underestimated the inrush.
