Ganking People in Sol

Open isn't cohesive. Somehow I think you have the wrong mental picture of it. In Open, you don't see all the other players at a location, just a selected group of them. In AX play it's not unknown to relog after a coloured-snake error and meet an entirely different group of people with the Thargoid encounter at a different stage. Using Block to avoid one group and get into another doesn't really have much effect on anyone's instancing.

This is a familiar impasse. Some want me to refrain from using Block. I reply that I use all game features to get the play I want in the game I bought. I'm not responsible for FD's coding.

What I dislike and oppose is that blocking can be ahead of time, and that its arbitrary. Its why I say it breaks things like Powerplay because groups can essentially block out other groups without ever seeing them which diminishes Open as a mode. It also inhibits gameplay for both because rather than use whats in game to overcome one party just removes the other for no penalty.

As for the wider game (such as AX) I have no issue with block because it does not have a player driven opposition.

I’d love to play in open more , first time was when Shinrarta Dezhra was invaded by the thargoids , had great fun ‘till some gankers came along ( they always travel in pairs for some little girl reason). Limping away from a fight 20% hull then someone comes out of nowhere and kills me, now that’s not fun in anyone’s book. Yeah yeah I blocked em but how many do I need to do after that.

Bored of the ‘get gud’ or ‘cry more’ comments , I’m not online enough to get to that level , I’m online for some fun. So now never play in open always a private group which isn’t always that well populated . Gonna try the anti-Zeno initiative soon.

Other multiplayer mode has artificial member cap, and besides needs actual apply for membership procedure. Open mode is only one with organic co-op possible. Simple as that. Somebody might want co-op PVE environment, but still does not want that PVP ME NOW crowd. That may be hard understand if PVP is best thing ever for that player, but people have differing tastes. So then options are: suboptimal mode choice, offer that PVP that one does not like, or block irritating elements.

One rather simple solution from FDEV could be soft PVP-flag. "I do want PVP"/"I don't want PVP" always in PVP wanted position if one has pledged to Powerplay. Now said flag would not actually prevent PVP actions, but would show in scan or just by targeting ship. Nothing prevents discourteous commander from engaging, but well that removes any kind of argument for blocking said commanders.
The issue is that in Powerplay its an objective to kill other players you see, hence why blocking is silly in this context.

Easy fix, all the people defending ganking or support it on this thread, add to your in-game ignore list and never deal with them again.

You do realize that CMDR names and forum names don't need to be the same, right?

Regardless, you can add CMDR Morbad to your list. I have no idea who that might be, but anyone with such a cool name probably doesn't want to play with you.

now that’s not fun in anyone’s book.

Clearly haven't read my book!

Isn't the HMS Diamond of similar size and classification as the USS Cole? The same USS Cole that was damaged so badly it had to be carried back to the States on another ship because she couldn't be made seaworthy, where she was then written off and scrapped, after two guys in a fiberglass dingy blew a massive hole in the side of it?
Not really Type 45s are newer, bigger, better armed and much better defence systems.

Probably the same reason you are...it directly interferes with my ability to engage in the content I prefer. If my CMDR is instanced with yours, I cannot opt out of any block you've made. I can't even reliably avoid it by any other means than abandoning Open, and thus the organic co-op play I prefer, because I have no idea (and have no desire to know) who your CMDR is and even if I did, the only cure, that doesn't involve a mode switch, is worse than the disease.

Why are you instant on messing with my instancing?

Nobody wants to mess with your instance but people rightfully put their playtime above anyone else’s playtime. The gankers put their enjoyment ahead of any other players’ considerations and so the people being ganked do the same and do whatever they need to do to ensure they have a good time playing the game they paid for.

If any of that interferes with other players, that’s all on FDEV and their bad design.

that’s all on FDEV and their bad design.
Its not a bad design, its one of the best ive ever seen regardless of the consequences on other players.
On the forums if i get out of line (frequently) i get a ban by the Mods (frequently) :ROFLMAO: which is fair enough, in game Fdev gave players the tool to remove unwanted harassment.
Call it griefing or whatever but im sure the intention was to protect players from unwanted interactions without having to have in game moderators.
Other games can take ages to report and get folks intent on ruining others fun removed, Block sorts it pretty much straight away.

It works very well.
