Ganking People in Sol

That people will abuse the power they have over others, if they're not held accountable for the power they wield, is less of a game design rule and more 'sociology 101'. It's ubiquitous throughout human history.

Which resulted in a deeply compromised game, essentially from the start.

We seem to have very different opinions about the degree of success this game has enjoyed.
I think calling a refusal to play with someone an "abuse of power" is a bit hyperbolic.

I agree that the whole implementation isn't ideal though. It's just what we have. FD have IMO been a bit cheap, abdicating their responsibility to moderate griefing and not providing the missing mode, leaving all that to players.

There's an argument that if the game hadn't been done on the cheap we would never have had it. I wouldn't know.

Absolutely, I never block someone for no reason, if they are intent on ruining my day (on the odd occasion im in Open) they are getting hit with the Block bat, don't want to get blocked? Don't annoy me 🤷‍♂️
Its nowt personal, hence why i stay in PG and then get moaned at for 'hiding'.

Fair enough, though expecting everyone to know what your personal rules are is a bit of a stretch. I'd wager everyone's criteria is a bit different and not everyone is as responsible with their use of the feature...some people compiling large lists submitted by random people with no vetting of the names comes to mind.

At some point, Frontier has got to have some responsibility for how this stuff is used, no?

Sure, i will do you a deal, remove block from Open, in return lets stop this Open only/Open bonus, hiding in Solo/PG rubbish, because that would be the consequence of removing the feature, many folks would, I'm sure join us in Mobius.

The game doesn't have any Open only/Open bonus and accusations of hiding in Solo/PG aren't game mechanisms. Sounds like an Apples and Orangutans kinda thing.

Yesterday a Python Mk2 pulled me in Sol. I was in an Orca. I won the mini game, but the game did not interrupt the interdiction even when my bar was 100% filled, and my opponent's empty for a few good seconds. It's like the game didn't react to the fact that I won the mini game at all.

So I eventually submitted and high waked out with 44% hull and no shields. Returned to Sol and managed to get to a station, and accidentally bumped into another ship. Now I have a fine, can't repair and can't take missions due to 1 Notoriety from earlier PP2 shenanigans.

Absolute waste of time.

(While the ganker doesn't give a flying and happily keeps clubbing the seals. There was no police response whatsoever. This design is absolutely ridiculous. Obviously they went straight into my block list.)

Reminder that you can and should use the block function to filter out people you don't want to play with. It's there, it works like a charm and you should absolutely use it and abuse it. Until fdev fixes their utterly broken crime and punishment system, this is the only way.

Also, don't listen to "but mah InStAnCeZ" crying from the gankers, it's on them, not on you.
Then play is solo or private. That's what's there for.

Gankers and PvP players will be present at hotspots, that's a fact for any game that has online multiplayer in it and where PvP is allowed and is a legitimate game mechanic. Frontier has said it from day 1: ED has PvP in Open play.
Either you get good enough to escape the attack or you fight back.
I get that it's frustrating at times to get killed repeatedly, it happend to me when I started, it still happens now that I am still rusty from 2-3years absence from the PvP scene, I dealt with it back then, I will deal with it again, aka git gud.
Personal attacks, insults and other vocalizations are the lowest of low.
If you can't or don't want to put the effort into dealing with the threat, either block the threat or go where the threat doesn't exist: solo or PG.

Don't try to push the fault onto people playing the game however they want with the mechanics allowed by the Devs themselves.
You die, it's on you dear anti-PvP players.
Be an adult, use in game mechanics to deal with it and stop complaining.

Thanks.

To be a little fair, anyone that is not deliberately looking for a PVP fight will not have the right setup to win, no multipurpose or non-combat role ship can hope to win against a PVP build if pilots are equally skilled.
But by the same token, if you're pulled by a dedicated PvP build it doesn't take much in the way of equipping a ship for a different role to give you a significantly better than even chance of being able to hyper out before you fry. Near as makes no diff to the interdiction minigame, all ships perform about the same in SC. You have an even chance there. You can win the minigame. You can hang a 90 and go perpendicular to the orbital plane and because you're leaving the gravity well faster than he is, he literally CANNOT close the range on you, because you may have the same max speed, you'll reach it before he does. You play to the strengths of what you're flying that match up to the weaknesses of a min/maxed PvP build. And you survive.

In sailboats a fin-keeler can point closer to the wind than a catamaran or a bilge-keeler. So you don't take them on in a tacking fight, you use the fact that you have a shallower draft than they do, and you cut the corners that they can't, and sail through the water that has less tidal force.

You just need to know your ship and where it overmatches others in the same way that the dedicated PvPers overmatch YOU in pure pewpewpew. Stay out of situations where their strengths dominate.

We seem to have very different opinions about the degree of success this game has enjoyed.

The game's flight mechanics, it's setting, and the freedom allowed to players, in the micro, and macro scales, can only be considered a success. I don't engage with ground/on-foot content, and I am still in it just for the spaceships. That's how successful ED has been to me.

I guess I can accept compromises more than others, but you can't fault a company for listening to it's Backers and sticking to their guns. 10 yrs on, and I am still buying up DLC from FDev. Just short of a whale over here, I want them to keep it coming.

Went to defend Mars High and Galileo in Sol yesterday. Pointless. So many gankers, people eventually left and even though got some bonds the missions didn't pass even once during a six hour time. We're supposed to save the earth but noo tOrPeDoEs gO BrBrBr, there is ZERO immersion in this event. Playing solo isn't going to pass the mission, I was told no AX ship is going to get a hydra to extend their hearts alone, gods know I wont be able to do it. There should be real repercutions to people who gank in the thargoid war.

You only need to block one or two of them and relog to get into a clean instance. (They're probably in wings).

Did that a few times. There were different nuisances in the next instance and the next as well. That is a lot of blocking and re logging, and I am not here to play a block/relog simulator, or play with boring nuisances. Went to play somewhere else where teamwork was not required. It's fine though. Pretty sure FDEV has no intention of letting Earth fall regardless of what we do..

Go to Invasions/Controls and hit them (just Thargoid Scouts etc.) for Cr's in real time - then you get minimum 18 mats (3 x 6 different mats) when that system is saved, whenever that is.
No Gankers or Griefers at these yet.

You may also find an instance in Open with AXI expert CMDR's are and you can join in with some hits on higher lever Interceptors and enjoy it (the final completion of an AXCZ is quite satisfying, having no expertise myself, just usually Scouts for me)
