Gave Elite another try after Beyond 4. But missions are still no fun and there is still no progress

It's like a pseudo-game, ya know what I mean?

It looks like a game but, it ain't.

I'm on the positive-spin side of this, but I think you're actually right. It's not a game like "insert quarter" or "one day I'll kill that final boss" kind of game. It's Pretend Spaceman, till you dowanna noe moar.

No matter what things get improved or added that's generally going to be the big-picture focus. It's just not everyone's cup of tea. That doesn't stop people from drinking it and wishing it was coffee or beer, instead of going to get coffee or beer, or developing a taste for tea. That's the part that mystifies me most, the willingness to continue to drink tea and dislike it, in the hopes that one day it will be beer.

Elite relies still way to much on 3rd parties to do their work for the lack of clear direction the game gives and it hurts player retention especially casual new comers imo. I've gotten like 10 friends to get this game, only one played more than 10 hours and most of them said something like "i need a game not a web browser sim".

And please dont tell me to explore the universe because I was really disappointed by this as well... got a passenger mission where I had to bring a passenger to an Ice gysire and man I was disappointed when there was just a nav beacon named Ice Gysire instead of a real Ice Gysire....

So you didn't actually use the DSS and scan the planet/moon for geological POI's, the new stuff in 3.3 that was implemented and that you came to try out? The nav beacon just marks the point where you can let the game know you have completed the mission, the geysers will be somewhere nearby on the planet surface, and you can find them by probing the planet/moon with the DSS then fly straight to the site. I won't mention the new way to find USS's and other stuff because it has aleady been mentioned, it would have made your mission a 5 minute job but you tried to do it the "old way"....sorry I did say I wouldn't mention it but alas I failed.

As an excuse not to play the game this was pretty poor, came here, didn't try any of the new stuff, found the "unchanged" old stuff was exactly the same as it was before because it was "unchanged", threw the dummy out and left, leaving behind a poor excuse for a reason on the forums.

Oh well, wherever you go try to have fun.

Fanboi's are great until they kill the game they passionately defend. And then they wonder where it all went wrong. No point pandering to ignorance. I'm out.

Of all the "games doomed" conspiracy theories I've read "because people like it" is one of the strangest.

You'll get a lot of salt from the usual culprits but you're right. Most of us have lives and can't sit for 6 hours at a time collecting materials or whatever. It's a very boring game with nothing much to do. Everyone knows it, really. Some have managed to convince themselves that it's somehow related to game difficulty, which is obviously silly. The game is very easy but also incredibly boring. I still play it (although increasingly less now) but never been able to convince anyone else to stick with it. It looks kind of nice, I guess.

Sometimes it really is the blind leading the blind all on blind faith.I dont get how the same people can pop up in any thread that dares to question some aspect of the game with the same replies or trying to be funny with one liners.

I agree the game was great up to a point and nothing that's come into it with the updates of late has made me think ohh I must play ED again, I have logged in looked about but with X4 waving its fruits at me ED is slipping further and further into the black hole of gaming death.

Yes I can hear the battle cry and the thundering of hooves, the game is very much alive and is indeed a good game but after four years it's fundamentally the same game I bought just before Horizons came out and it still feels like nothing I do has any real meaning or sense of accomplishment, and off the topic but the new lighting is making me want to log in even less, Im still a fan of ED but its me not it….

If you want to move onto another game because you prefer it you definitely should. Any other approach demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of what video games are.

If you do move on don't hang around here posting resentfully at people who still enjoy themselves.

I don't think ED is a 'bad' game per se. It's just boring. There's no challenge really, other than time sink. I haven't been in a position to spend hours and hours on a game since Final Fantasy 8. Some of us have careers and families. What the game really requires for me is some serious reconsideration of the mission system. I was playing ESO last night and travelling around picking up missions and jobs. It's basically the same thing as ED (in that sense) gso why does it feel so much more alive and engaging?

All games are time sinks, you can complete missions much faster now they've been vastly improved in ED.

I usually get about 5 or 6 hours a week for ED yet I seem to be doing fine in it.

If you have a pirate kill mission and there are no Res sites to farm, just pick up some courier or cargo missions to the system in question and do those. This will attract pirates to you and give you something else to do so you aren't waiting around all the time.

I have been gaming for near on 42 years so I have a clear understanding of what gaming is, but thank you for proving a point. I hang around here because I do like the game but I just dont like playing it, but im still very interested in where it might go.

I dont really move on to other games like they are the one and only, I play whats good or what im in the mood for. Since not playing ED on a regular basis, (I do have well over 1500 hours in it) I spent a lot of time in numerous games some where replays others as with this one I will play again, case in point been playing Sins again and that came out in 08.

ED is a great game I wont say it isn't but its not one that for me at least is standing the test of time. I can log in today and pretty much do the same thing I was doing when I brought it but still have nothing to show for it. That's what bugs me the most bar engineering which as a solo player seems a bit pointless there is nothing in game that I can say yeah I did that, or look that's mine, which I know is not what ED is about, I loved the original games but maybe you are right ED is not the game for me anymore at least not when it comes to getting my space ship fix.

I dont get why people think just because your not playing the game you cant express any views about it or question those who defend it come what may. Hence my remark as if someone dares whine/moan/say something isn't right even if its done in a constructive manner the usual suspects (well not seen eagle about for a bit ) will descend upon such threads and try and convince the OP that either he/she is not playing the game right, FD are the second coming and he should bow down to their greatness, not sure how but they seem to want peoples stuff (yeah with no player to player trade that joke is not even funny) the game is great but my god its flawed in lots of ways. which for now make me hate it more than love it.

Plus this is a great forum to read whilst sitting on the bus or at break.

Or they could open their game to mods and we'd have something amazing in a week.

More like after 1-2 years. And the mods would break due to frequent game updates before they are even developed. Don't get me wrong, I am all for mod support, but only after development of the game is finished.

What point is that do you think ?.

If you don't like playing it move on, there are stacks of other games out there. Check back when the next expansion drops. I do that with games I really like but have burned out on like subnautica.

I said games plural, I'm not a believer in the one game to rule them all.

You never have anything to show for playing a video game. Its all about the fun of playing them (for me anyway). When that stops time for a new one.

I didn't tell you you couldn't express your views. I suggested not hanging around posting resentfully at people who enjoy it (if you choose to do that) I did that because its a very sad thing to do, although I'll happily admit I find it hilarious. Constructive criticism is great, unless its coming from a troll or longtime ex-player no longer familiar with the game then its irrelevant.

This is the official forum of ED its the single most likely place on the internet you are absolutely guaranteed to meet genuine ED fans, if that bothers you as with the game is it worth it ?.
