Modes Get off Solo/Private groups and onto Open play!

I don't have a problem with people wanting to PvP... I take issue, however, when people want to attack the game modes as an attempt to pigeonhole everyone else into being their "content" and will fight it as long as I play this game.

The problem her is, Sylveria, you can't force players to behave in a certain way, without compromising the core element of Open. Liberty.

But in doing so, you in turn compromise the liberty of others who do not wish to freely engage in PvP.

It's a paradox, either way- which is why PG's needs proper flagging controls instead as a concession.

As the saying goes- your right to swing your fist ends at the beginning of my nose.

One could see it that way, yes.
But.
Wouldn't Frontier provide two more modes and wouldn't they DELIBERATELY share the same sandbox, along, above and beyond joint borders (shared Galaxy BGS), Open would be flawed therefore - yes. It sounds like a paradox, but choices made beforehand spare us that issue. Happily I like a challenge. Some don't. I think its possible for none fighting captains to enjoy Open. We need more player&player mechanics, like escorts, guards and sentinels helping other Commanders along vs the "wretches".
Killing Commanders should make you, as Sandro I think put it HOT. Frontier is too mediocre to soft in certain aspects of the game. I am looking forward to changes in fines and crime management. That would be a "FLAG" in context. We are too easily white washed in Elite right now, "criminal" elements should have certain disadvantages and of course advantages. Not just do everything, do it where you want it, do it when ever you choose! No.
Frontier has all already provided. Anarchy& highsec should matter! Elite D. is jung, still. Killing players with high bounties should be lucrative!, screw the goldminers! So many choices....

Only it's not just "one" seeing it that way. You might want to do some homework here in Hotel California and you'd realize there are a lotmore people than just me who believe in this.

The game wasn't just introduced with two game modes, however, so implying that 2 out of 3 that contain the ability to freely engage in PvP somehow "validates" those reasons doesn't make it unequivocal fact.

It's simply a hypothetical assertion made and ignores that Solo still exists freely in the same sandbox, as well. If they had introduced only Open and Private Groups, in all probability you'd be correct. But they didn't.

More likely, the reasons for why a flagging option wasn't introduced was because of technical difficulty more than some sort of implied "view by FD on PvP being the core of the game".

You see, speculation goes both ways.

Sylveria I think you probably misunderstood me?

Three valid choices, a shared galaxy. Off two possible Multiplayer options only one provides non consensual PvP. The Liberty for all.
You can argue both ways of course, but valid is, PvE is in ALL, shared for everyone, why only one mode is all for all multiplayer.
The Hotel? I am well aquainted with the cursed place. [yesnod] Open PvE was discussed there beside other aspects. But I managed to escape [smile] poor souls! May they ever find peace of mind there ..... trapped inside a box, which is inside a box which is ins trap ....

In case you didn't realize, you're still in the same box. Modes discussion is the Hotel California.

No, I didn't misunderstand you at all- I know perfectly well what you're implying. And as I said, it's hypothetical.

FD has never announced PvP as being the "core" of this game, and to the contrary most of the content in this game is actually centered around PvE, which is why most PvPer's complain they must engage in PvE content in order to afford rebuys to continue their style of gameplay. In fact, outside of bounties or piracy, there's really no way to directly gain credits from destroying other players, no?

i believe we don't need to worry about open seeing more use, as FD promosed us serious changes to Crime&Punishment. I bet there will be more focused PvP, less ganking, more social activity in 8 or 10 weeks time.

You wouldn't be interested in buying a bridge, would you?

;)

Inresponse to Sylveria and anyhow ...

No Frontier never designed PvP as a core element to get along, nor do I announce and label it the mother mode in Elite or something. That would be nonsense.
I am not implying PvP is all there is in Open. Nor do I foresee any necessity for PvP AT ALL, in Open.
I am perfectly aware and content to be in a box, which is a box, trapped inside box ect. ect. but I, and I venture to say the majority of most players inside that wretched little boxes are contend with whom they share!

What I do imply however is, and this is by no means hypothetical as you put it, since everyone in Open shares with everyone else, in Open and ONLY in Open, as you very well, every day, in Open have to endure.

What does, that little (wicked) space lurch, residing on the right shoulder of our beloved space cowboy, utter in he's (the cowboy's) undefended earlobe, utter?
Quote space lurch: "
In addition, Powerplay has rules to handle direct Commander-Commander confrontation. Indeed, this is the core conceit: the system encourages justifiable piracy and homicide for a higher purpose. It’s my belief that Powerplay will always be at its best when opposing Commanders interact directly, whether in an expansion conflict zone or through interdiction". end quote space lurch.

The game is, IN OPEN, designed around this, not hypothetical at all at all. But daily business, intentionally.

Sandro Sammarco has a place for everything, everything on its place.

True. And I suppose a case could be made for CG's, too- but I've yet to see a feature in Open that isn't available to PG's as well.

As I said, interaction with complete strangers is the only feature that Open has that other modes don't.

In theory, Private Groups have gated access, so even if you join one of the larger PvE groups out there, the player who started the group needs to approve those who join, and can kick out any undesirables. Any particular member may be a stranger to you, but it's kind of them being a friend of a friend's brother-in laws' cousin, twice removed. ;)
