Modes Get off Solo/Private groups and onto Open play!

I've played on open from day one and, yes, I've had unsolicited PVP experiences but I also have a friends list as long as my arm and have gotten alot of pleasure from:

• Participating in a busy commuity goal
• Feeling like the galaxy is a living/breathing place
• Seeing other peoples' strategies, builds, playstyles, cool ship names
• Making new friends and having interesting converstaions.
• Unexpected congregations, fights, allies and challenges.

Can you honestly say the credits you save from the odd rebuy here and there outweighs all of that (and more)?!

Now, call me selfish if you want BUT I'm actually pretty sure that I speak for all those who chose to play in open mode when I say: Every person that segregates themselves off into a private group or solo play is diminishing their experience and everyone elses. It's such a shame.

All I ever hear from people that chose solo or PG are excuses about how they're scared of griefers or don't want to get killed by all the time. I've spent over 1400 hours in open and I've never been in a pvp situation that I couldn't just jump away from and I can count on one hand the number of times I've been attacked by someone without provocation. Of course people have been unlucky and lost out to bad PvP experiences, but the gains are so much greater than keeping a few extra credits from one or two rebuys.

TO ALL YOU PEOPLE IN SOLO AND PGs - COME OUT OF YOUR SHELLS AND INTO THE INVITING WATERS OF OPEN! DON'T LIVE IN FEAR AND PARANOIA, HELP TO BETTER YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE AND OTHERS BY CREATING A LIVING BREATHING COMMUNITY!

Or you could get off your high horse, telling other people how to play their own game, which they payed for with their own money and stop baiting others into being your target.Which let's be honest it IS all you are doing! Until such time as you become the lead designer in Fdev, our pay for our copies of our games. I suggest you worry about your own business, not everyone elses. That's as repectfully as i can put it without the banhammer squashing me. So stop wasting forum space with the same old self centered tripe and just play the game,,,,,,or don't!! Not always, I've been known to go AFK in an unarmed Type 6 outside Lave for over 30 minutes in Open (and an empty block list, so I was there for all to see).
Also did a rare trade route in the same T6 on the same Saturday afternoon.

It was to prove a point however, that open isn't as dangerous as some of the PvP'ers would have you believe.
I didn't die at all and got to chat with a decent player while doing a rare trade run. Was a fun afternoon.

And I still think removing open is a good idea

Yep. I'm always in Open and never see pirates. I avoid community goals though so that might be a factor.

Omg did I have fun before. I'm not somebody who goes out looking for PvP, but if fired upon I will have a go... and sometimes the interdictor turns and runs, even gets blown up.

But, before I was interdicted in my xeno configured gunship.
So I had no chance.
I had to run, I was being chanced by a cutter and a fighter. Gunship sheilds don't last long, but thankfully hull can take serious hammer.

I couldn't getvaway , super cruise wouldn't charge to slow.

Heart racing, no no I don't want to lose my ship and credits.

Then high jumped to another system, with 40% hull remaining

I then docked fixed and went back..
Now attempting same run in my t9.

Open can be fun, people are cruel.
That's life.

I wouldn't have logged, I would have lost ship... but I got away.

Leading up to this, I had met 5 other players, to fighting or attacking anyone. Not everyone attacks people in open
I played my first 6 months in open, not knowing groups like mobius existed.

Can you, (or the others spouting the same garbage), explain to me why you are so desperately trying to convince yourselves, (because you aren't convincing anyone else), that people are 'scared'? There is a world of difference between not wanting to spend leisure time with certain types of player and being scared of them or the environment they choose to play in.

You can wish it were the case as much as you like, you can type it as much as you like but neither will make it true. Now please, in small words because I'm obviously a bit thick, why do you and others have an unquenchable need to fantasise that people are scared of you in a computer game?

That word 'scared' again, you are desperate for it to be true aren't you? I've had a decent amount of rebuys, many gained in open so where does that leave your little assumption? People finding pew pew pew tedious does not equate to fear, people not wanting to play with children who spew crap over comms does not equate to fear. Why this is beyond your comprehension is a mystery to me, I don't fancy playing Monopoly this afternoon, I suppose In your little fantasy world that makes me scared of Monopoly huh?

As pointed out many many times by scores of other posters, theres a huge difference between being scared and simply not being bothered. Is this going in one ear and straight out the other along the path of least resistance?

Oh and you already claimed that open was literally buzzing with no player shortages at all...so what exactly is yer problem if open is fine? Must be so fine and populated ye spend half yer day on the forums telling everyone?

I really like a nice pint of real ale. There's loads of great pubs near us. They're small, but mostly full of interesting people having a good time. There's a few larger sport bars and pubs near the football ground, there's usually some nice people there as well, but mostly loud obnoxious a/holes. I prefer our small locals.

The mode choice for E : D is one of its great assets, so be thankful that we can all play the way we want.

You are a perfect example of why I dont play in open...if I ever doubt meself again, Ill just read some of yer comments and that should be enough to keep me in solo.

Its not fear though...its actually got more in common with pity...not fer you but fer anyone who actually listens to you and takes you seriously. I pity them...because it proves the old adage that theres one born every minute ^

I've never said open is dangerous, so I'm not contradicting myself at all.
I said that FDev made the game around the idea of mode switching and all the games content / tools support that.
I've also pointed out this "extra danger" you PvP'ers keep on about can be circumvented in open, so a bonus is pointless.

And, scared? really? You're stooping that low, to try and bait people.
There is active and retired members of the military posting in these threads, I'm a retired constable and know of other emergency service workers active and retired on these boards. You really don't know what "scared" is if you think anyone is "scared" of you or anyone in open mode.

Pity would be more apt. I feel pity for anyone who has to rely on others for self validation.

Fdev will keep open alive, I think they are gankers at heart but aftaid to admit it.

All that was promised to PVP players was a 'rare and meaningful' experience...which you now have in spades.

Rare because bad actors have run off the player base, and meaningful because if bad actors go unpunished, the PVP will be even rarer...

PVP players control their own destiny and play style in Open...less bad actors...more possible targets....

Because you can kill other players in a private group, so my idea still stand - remove open and solve all the games problems.
Plus the added bonus is, that anyone joining a PvP PG is consenting to you going after them in their haulers.

Right, why not create a PvP based PG? One that's only about emergent pew-pew. So, yeah, Open is not needed.

I am not scared of PvP. I am *bored* by PvP. Each of my game sessions is planned out: either making so much money or gaining so much rep or chasing another target. I don't want other players forcing me into combat. I am bored by combat, whether fighting NPCs or players.

I've no problem with others engaging others, but it's not for me. Your mileage may vary.
