FYI: I've found that setting resolution to 1080, and in-game DSR to 1.5x, but then lowering the Oculus quality slider, gives comparable, but slightly better, results than using Nvidia DSR with full quality Oculus settings. The other benefit of this is that the Oculus slider can be quickly adjusted in-game, so you can raise or lower it until you find the point where your graphics card is maxing out.

How do you disable vsync and how do you make it borderless? If you have a monster video card you could ditch v-sync all together to get sub 10ms frametimes.
I'm currently running medium with 2xDSR, no v-sync. Game runs at 200+ FPS with sub 10ms frametimes on a single 980 Ti, I have not noticed any tearing to speak of.
Also I found that running borderless windowed introduces lag for me even with sub 10ms frametimes it's enough to make me sick, anyone else experience this?

You have to force it off with the nvidia or AMD CP.
Borderless window can be enabled with EDDS which you can download from the frontier forums.
So far I have tinkered with Borderless windowed, DSR, in game SSAA and the Oculus quality slider.
I can say without a doubt that the best VR experience with my setup is Fullscreen with 2.00x DSR, Oculus quality at max, in game SSAA disabled (1.0x) and V-Sync enabled.
Everything is at high apart from Shadows which I have set to low. If I deviate from this in any way (e.g. borderless, no v-sync or substitute DSR with in game SSAA) I get noticeable lag even if the frametime is low.
Next test is going to be V-Sync set to "smooth" in the nvidia CP, I'm not really liking adaptive v-sync although it's only an issue while look at the galaxy map.
Has anyone tried using ED Diary on a separate device through a share?
Also, I've got a new way to have it set up that works great. Rep to rennarda for this great tip!
I turn off DSR, turn SS to 1.5x and the Oculus Quality slider down two notches - works great for my GTX 970. I have to turn it down even more in starports, but it's a quick change as opposed to DSR. Either way, the stars and text is so much more crisp like this, so it works amazing.
I thought this was interesting because originally it was said (not sure if by you) that there is more performance hit using ingame SS rather than external DSR.
But anyway ive been testing a little bit with my new Nvidia gtx980I want to say right now that if you're on an AMD card i would certainly recommend moving to a Nvidia card!! I was on a r9 290 no slouch by any means but using the same settings when i start the game with the gtx980 everything is soo much crisper and sharper - genuinely very impressed! Text is easy to read now. Bare in mind my settings were 1.5 ss in game.
So anyway i thought i would apply Nvidia DSR (2717x1717 or something) and lower SS to 1.0 it still looks very good and better than my AMD experience (no text shimmering!!!! which as you will know annoyed me before) but its not quite as sharp as when i had 1920x1080 & 1.5 ingame SS. More testing required but i think i will finally be playing this game at a great level of graphics(whereas before i would be compromising all the time and continually tweaking)
