Getting use out of those X52 extras (pic hvy)

Found an X52 on Gumtree for £ 25 that came with another joystick and a bundle of games. Received early this week :D

It required a repair to Y-axis (broken wire) and a clean to the Z-axis potentiometer, but after that was done works perfectly. Runs fine on my MacBook running a Win8.1 partition.

Now to work out what controls I want where...

Hi!

Nice guide, thanks for taking the effort.

On a somewhat related note, I'm considering buying one of these beauties, but I've heard some worrisome rumours about the X52 - in particular related to win 8.1 and future compability support. Aside from that, it looks nice - but how is it to live with (compared to an x55 for example)? In particular, and I know this guide isn't in favour of that, is it fairly easy to get to work nowadays? I don't mind a bit of messing about, but I've grown tired of compability issues.

Any advice for a potential fellow X52'er? :)

I just got the x52, use 8.1, and have had no issues since making the changes in this thread( Thanks OP )
The drivers I used were from the website, the disk that came with the stick did not go near my PC.

Not heard back from anyone that I sent the last set of profiles to. Is all ok with them?

Just downloaded them a little while ago. Later this evening when I have some time, (read: - better half falls asleep, goes to bed, etc), I am looking forward to testing them out.
Thanks a bunch for providing these.

(I'm getting married this weekend, but normal service will resume in the new year once I stop being groomzilla)

Congrats - on your marriage.

My better half and I have been together going on 22 years this May. If you haven't already, might want to consider putting your needs on back burner. Trust me, in the long run you will be much happier.
When Mamma is not happy, no-one is happy!

Ooops - silly me. I'm using the Pro. Well - the offer is still there - anyone want to do that with the Pro, just shout. I've had two requests for my setup file, custom binds and a brief text tutorial so far and no complaints.

Though, if they've smashed themselves into the side of the station, I accept no responsibility whatsoever.

I would love to get a copy of your profile. I've been using the Pro since Alpha and it's been great, but only on a single mode. The three mode setup sounds amazing.

bump...

But whilsy here!...
I need a link to a mapping template that I can edit and print...

Maybe one that looks like this...

SaitekEDAlpha_zps0129d320.jpg
But I want to change the keys, and the buttons alot!

I want to be able to set up my own,
But I would like a blank template that I can edit then print...

Similar to the picture above, but with my own mappings.
I am new to all this, so i suspect It will be a lot of trail and error!

Training is a great place to try out your new configs. I recently bought a x52 pro and spent a good hour figuring out my best mapping for how I play.

I have this exact same issue (x52 non pro) You can fix it in game by pulling the cable like you said, but it's not really helpful during combat.
So I can't use any profiles and just have the control panel open when I play Elite so the pinkie trigger works.
I'd also like to know if anyone has a solution.
I also had this issue.

i did some googling and found several forums that mentioned that this could be caused by having custom commands with names longer than 16 characters in the Saitek profiler.

I renamed all of my commands to be 16 characters or under and the problem went away.

Give it a try.

Newly discovered feature: getting use out of the pitch and yaw trim controls:

"Set banding"

This divides each rotational slider into three programmable regions (0-33%, 34-66%, 67-100%), that can THEN be edited to output keystrokes, or even Macros (I'm thinking of a reply macro of "Sure, I'll empty my cargo hold! Lets start with my extra Cannon Rounds and Photons!" I'll just have to open comms myself, roll the yaw trim left of center, hit send!)

The precision slider can be banded this way as well. I'm still trying to find a way to make one of these more accessible knobs (in the midst of combat maneuvering) to cycle through subsystems quickly and easily.

But this seems to be the way.

Ive got sub systems bound to the mouse wheel next to the lateral thrusters hat on the throttle, because its a wheel its perfect for scrolling through them. The only thing that was an issue with it was when I set it to "unprogrammed" they would randomly stop working so I had to set the wheel directions as key presses that mimicked the ingame bound ones.

I have to say the profile editor is as buggy as hell and really poor.

I've had a few more e-mails from people on here.

If anyone wants to try out my profiles with some of the macros and setttings mentioned in here, if you click on my signature below and go to my long neglected site, you'll find in the technical section a link to dropbox and some profiles that you're welcome to use. All I ask is that if you do so, drop me a note so I can see who is downloading and of course, as ever, any feedback is appreciated.

All the best

Me

This was of great help!!! Thank you for posting and making this available to us!!.....however, any ideas why my "i button" wont work? I unprogram it and still is not doing what I want or the profile states....every time I push it it just blinks along with the green light at the center of the silver hat in the joystick....I dunno what I am doing wrong...

and btw...what latch/unlatch mean?? thanks...

The i button wont work (and the lower hat on the flightstick led flashes when its pushed) is because you have clutch mode on (and thats the clutch mode working/flashing). In the saitek control panel, uncheck that box (in the MFD tab).

and PS: "latch" means simply "click on, click off"

PPS: if the clutch box is unchecked, cycle it anyway and hit apply, sometimes it glitches on
