Getting use out of those X52 extras (pic hvy)

Thanks, a big help in rationalising my hat switches and pinkie trigger as well.
Only just getting the hang of it but already better use of joystick and lost buttons etc.
Big Thanks

Great guide! No more control panels open in the background while playing ED and more buttons available.

The reconfiguration did cost me a new Asp (one button got translated to "left mouse", which isn't a good thing to start pressing inside a station) but it was all certainly worth it! ;)

I'd been avoiding the Saitek software because all the important things worked on my X52 Pro with just the driver in Windows 8.1.

Tge things that weren't working for me were the mouse stick and button on the throttle and the scroll wheel on the throttle. My pinky switch was working fine.

Last night I took the risk that the Saitek software might up my controls, but I was driven by the need to enable these extra buttons - mainly the scroll to cycle subsystems.

I'm pleased to say it didn't take much mucking about to get these enabled, and I quickly worked out how to re-enable my pinky switch.

I need to add some banding to the clutch wheel, as an axis it has a bit of wobble, and as I have it set to sensor range my sensors can go a bit funny when it "wobbles".

My other tip I'd that the slider on the throttle can be used as a switch. I use mine to toggle flight assist on/off.

Anyone know if analog dials and the slider is working other than as a switch yet? I haven't checked in months and it would be great if they did.

I believe so. Will be updating the master profile this afternoon and re-uploading to the dropbox.....
Favour to ask - one of the more visually minded commanders fancy doing me a drawing of the profile that I have been sharing as an easy reference card?

(By my count, nearly 200 commanders have downloaded the profile so far!)

Awesome. Thanks, i'll play around with it when I get a chance to get back in the game.

I'd help ya out if I could but, I don't have any talent in what you need.

The dial around the "i" button (dial 2 in the Saitek software) was working as continuous range for my sensor zoom. Trouble was that it's accuracy wobbled at times by up to about 20% without me touching it, which made the sensor display confusing. That's the only reason I've now set the wheel to four bands.

Excellent thread. Just got my X52 today and have it up and running witht the help of this thread. Mapped the mouse button as my FSD button, though it does not work for disengaging so I still need to figure that out. Engine boost works with the I button. I haven't even thought on how to setup up Mode two yet for weapons, but since I'm playing as a Hauler not sure I need it for that since I tend to run more then anything else :D

Thanks to the OP and vingtetun for this excellent thread, my new x52 pro is now fully functioning all I got to do is learn how to fly again! So far 130000cr down for a discharge of weapons in station and subsequent insurance rebuy (profile didn't work properly needed a reboot) My old trusty Logitech wingman is going to assist a new dangerous player struggling with the keyboard and mouse, so consider two players helped buy this. Repped you both well deserved

All of my X52 woes ended just by keeping the control panel open on my desktop. Not had one problem since then and all my buttons/trigger/switches work all the time. It's just part of my "setting up for an ED session" routine.

This. Just open the control panel for the x52 and press some buttons for good measure and then leave it open while playing.

My x52 pro is starting to niggle. At just over 1 year old, and hardly heavily used at 5 hours per week.

The display brightness isn't always the same, sometimes bright, sometimes dim, others not lit at all.

The button LEDs, sometimes don't light up in the correct colour, instead so reverting to green.

Worst of all is the dead zone I need for pitch. I can sometimes have it very small, and sensitive, just how I like it for combat.... Fine moves.... Others I need the zone twice the combined size of the zone indicators. I find I have to alter this on the fly in game too.

If only there was a physical track dial on the stick like in the olden days of computing with analogue joysticks to correct your drift.

Are you talking about the mouse button near the thumbstick on the right side of the throttle? If you're using the X52 Pro, you can map that in the ED options to engage/disengage the FSD. Just map it to the first of the three options (enable FSD) and you'll be able to use it. That's how I have mine set up. I set the 'J' key as the 'Enable FSD to Supercruise' hotkey as a backup for those times when my target may be occluded and I don't want to 'unlock' it or select a new one to get around the star/planet/etc.. in order to make the jump to a new system.

I have everything set up on Mode 1 at present, including weapons, and haven't had to worry about it since. I rarely ever need to use the keyboard, with the exception of the map, settings and a few other things. I can access both side MFD's with the stick, navigate all of the starport menus, etc.. with just the X52.

I'm using the X52 Pro, however, so that might make a difference with all of the above if it's substantially different from the X52.

I need to send mine back for a replacement. After barely 3 months of use, the throttle unit has gone berzerk. When advancing the throttle in either direction, anything bound to the scroll wheel near the HAT will also be activated. That was my default for adjusting the radar range, but I had to move that to the keyboard, because moving the throttle would cause it to zoom in and out. The lights on the throttle itself also go crazy when moving it. The buttons themselves still work properly, but the lights will flicker, often go off altogether, or dim. Usually the D and E buttons go out completely, while the I button dims or flickers. The MFD also changes brightness at random, and usually loses one or more lines of text. It also frequently thinks one or more buttons are in use, even when I'm not using it.

It's a nice setup, but I'm rather disappointed in the crappy build and lack of anything resembling QA. I'm hoping I get a replacement that actually works, and it's all beat to hell like most 'refurb' warranty replacements tend to be.

Same here, mine went all 'y'. Bought on the 19/12/14, didn't use it till the new year. 2 weeks ago the cursor started wandering, buttons acting up etc so I called Madcatz.

Advice, don't call Madcatz... They are amazing. Really amazing. In a bad way.

If you bought it from a large retailer try taking it direct to them, I bought mine from PC World here in UK and because it's value is under a set amount, they just swapped it there and then. Shiny new x52 here now, did the swap yesterday.

madcatz... Hmm I ended up telling them I would see them in court... To me if something breaks after 5 weeks of use them they should swap it easily... but it got the 'RMA 2 weeks sir very sorry 2 weeks'. Really, they expected me to stay off ED for 2 weeks ha!

Picked up an X52 Pro and this thread helped immensely.

Ran into one issue and hope someone can help.

I am using the Pinky as a mod(or shift if you will) for commands. Works Great. By Profile is set as per the instructions and I know how two states for all buttons. Well, except Fire B.

In game, if I try to set any command to Pinkie + Fire B it registers ONLY the pinkie. Control panel shows Both when I try it. All my other games show both. It's just Elite that doesn't. I have reset all my bindings and started over. Tried different ports, with and without the Profiler running. No go.

Any ideas? Is this a Elite Bug?

Hello calaban

i,m also a faily young (feeling) gamer, started also 30y ago with the first elite.
Had al kinds of hotas systems, but unfortunately always only used throttle (when it worked) and prim and sec fire. That only for the simple reason that i,m a pilot and not a flight mechanic, i get a migraine when i see the endless (im)possibilities of that equipment and its always plug an play ......... but not for me.
then for elite downloaded the traininggames first hpefully unpacked my x52 (because it should work) and by god it did! It really did printed out the lengthy booklet 200+ pages from kornelius and all the buttons where there), i was excited like a child!
Then downloaded the real game (which also had the training missions by the way), pinkyswitch nope, ui nope, targets switch nope, flight assist nope sigh! and they were all assigned! spent a whole evening and i almost wept.
so now for your threat, man if it is really this simple i,m gonna get on my knees and say a praise for u placing this post!, the sole reason i am not altering my settings is my excitement and i will tell u if it worked
