Give us freedom, the same as EvE. Consigne the universe to the players, FD

I prefer to use no 3rd party tools at all, precisely because they are not part of the game. I've tried TS for Elite out once or twice, and met some very nice and friendly people that I had a lot of fun playing with.

Elite does include socialisation tools, and they do in fact work - but they are ignored by many as they do not currently work to the degree demanded by some (as it's based on friends list and proximity) - so off they go using 3rd party tools, and then ask why Elite doesn't have the same thing - completely ignoring the fact that Elite works on P2P island communications.

Fair enough, for me for example comm chat is difficult to use at the moment if I`m pinpointing the USS and cant grab the keybord. They could at least try to implement some sort of station chat.

Chat and social tool will come, there is a desperate need for it and FD are well aware of it, it's really exciting to think of all the changes to come and they have out right said that social tools are a priority, it's good to know the game creators have got our backs :)

Yup, fingers crossed for huge, much needed improvements :)

That's the problem though - as soon as anyone of a certain mindset says "modern features" they tend to mean "like [x] game". I've specifically said that I think the game needs more social features and more content - but I don't think the core game style to be changed until it is akin to Elite. Belittling anyone who believes otherwise as one of the "84s" is not a good argument. A little less of the ad hominem would be appreciated - I've posted exactly why I wouldn't like it and I think that aligns with what FD were saying from the beginning.

EDIT: Just for clarity what's particulaly irritating is that people think that in order to be "modern" then a game has to do "x". I think that's facile and it's irritating that there seems to be a group of people who can't accept that different games should exist and if other people like them then thats their opinion and is just as valid.

That's exactly it. If you want to buy underwear, you don't walk in to a grocery shop and complain they don't sell underwear. Also - anybody "belittling" the 84's are a curious bunch. They want a computer game, based on an old 1984 one, for reasons unknown even to them. Yet they still demand that 1984 computer game remake become something entirely different - as the 84's are old and clueless and know nothing about modern gaming. And then they go and call the 84's n00bs.

It's very entertaining. It's nearly as entertaining as seeing them swan around in their diagonal haircuts, ridiculous tattoos and enlarged earlobes, trying to play "look at me!" harder than their fellows, squinting at their iShinys all the time, and proudly holding BA's in Social Awareness Studies. And then they complain that the 84's won't employ them :D

Hmmm, maybe NPC wingmen would help with this? Sadly the current crop of NPCs are too stupid to be of help but I'm sure it could be done eventually. After all, if we have to have a solo mode we may as well support it properly so that solo players can run convoys of rares and have escorts to battle pirates.

As I said originally when guilds are core gameplay tenets I have never seen the end result being anything other than them being de facto mandatory. From what I am told it's basically impossibly to progress in Eve without being in a corporation for instance. Certainly in WoW being a member of a guild is basically required to access the end game content.
First of all who said they would be the core elements?
Second, there IS no end game content. Or mid game for that matter.

Also nothing about this would change the way you play your game, If you are an explorer, nothing changes. Miner/trade/bounty hunter all goes on as before. With 400 billion systems you might never even see these guilds.

Yup, fingers crossed for huge, much needed improvements :)

And although i prefer to play alone, i hope there will be improvements to coop play.

Only thing i have a problem with is: Content that requires a guild because the benefits are something that you will never achieve as a single player.
I'm talking about equipment and such... not the obvious advantages that an organized group brings.

In these crazy modern times we have these things called 'supermarkets' where you can get both. Shops have evolved since the heady days of 1984, this will come as a shock to some.

While most people now enjoy the convenience of supermarkets it is also understood that some people prefer the old way which is great because they can go off on a solo pursuit to separate shops and never have their own quality of life affected in any way whatsoever, therefore negating the need to impose their old world views on the majority of the modern population.

Can't believe this thread got so much attention...Braben said it already...'their game the way they want it!' Not any other way...END.

HAHAHA while I find a lot of your post very amusing, I have to point out that I'm a 1984er and I wish this game was more than just original Elite updated with graphics and a (very) fancy universe. There is a very musty smell of old fart around these forums, not every idea since 1984 has been a bad one. I totally agree with the point of view that we shouldn't make a generic modern game and that Elite deserves to be special - but there's a lot that could be done to make ED fantastic that is being totally dismissed as "Too modern" or "No, EVE has it" or "No, we never had that in 1984"

FD created this situation themselves. I am all for different games, but Elite Dangerous is an mid 80s game with fancy graphics and an internet-dongle. It has less features than FFE and FD's "dynamic galaxy" and other fancywords seem to be extremely simple dungeon master events so far. That's not a case of accepting difference, that's a doomed game. Frontier and FFE were sequels that expanded the genre and the series, while ED is a retrograde remake. Big mistake on their part.

So either they need to come up with unique features fast (adding fancy shaders to 1984 Elite isn't it) or they use proven concepts from the competition.

If FD didn't want the voices crying for features from Eve and X3 on this forum, they should have created a more compelling game and not just apply a paint job. As simple as that.

Elite Dangerous is a niche game. It appeals to a small minority of simulation lovers.

Read the reviews, all the reviews are pretty high scoring but they're given by sim loving reviewers that like this type of game.

You can't ask it to be something it wasn't designed to be.

You can ask them to fix what they promised would be in the game..... Like a living universe that has a working background simulation.

This isn't an arcade game, it's a hard core simulation..... With plenty of Grind.

Indeed - you can go to a Walmart or Asda and buy pretty much anything you could generally want in every-day life. It shows in the staff, and the wages they are paid reflects their skills.

I for one couldn't care less that this is based on a 1884 game. I was looking for an interesting space game, where our action affected the universe. I never heard of the originals, and care little about whether this closely resembles them.

I care about game play, not nostalgia.

I agree with all your points there, content that excludes folk is rarely a good idea, games these days understand that and accommodate all players, even died in the wool MMOs have game modes that allow usually solo players the opportunity to see the high end group content if they like with great modern systems that include all gamers into all game modes if they fancy experiencing them.

Yes those places are full of hard working folk trying to make their way in life and that should never ever be looked down on or disrespected.

The staff in my local supermarket are generally helpful and knowledgeable about a vast array of things and I appreciate all their efforts to make my life easier

I can totally understand that point of view. But it does kinda blow multiplayer ships out of the water. or Space. which is a bit of a shame.

Where is this hard core stuff - I dont have any hard core sim in my Elite :( Flight model is good but its not newtonian. I`m a flight simmer and I dont find E;ite hard core sim to be honest - and nothing wrong with that. Just dont call it hard core sim.

I do not understand all this fear of social things

this attitude is like ELITE: Hermits

A lot of the current perceived issues would be solved if Wings could alliance with other Wings and when present in a system become a faction that has the capability to be system dominant and then be able to generate community goals such as building a station. This would allows Wings to fight Wings for supremacy.

++++++++++ Also this organizations should be able to claim planets, spaces etc.. themself, what is the point of 4 billion systems if %95 of it wont be visited apart from few explorers
