Give us freedom, the same as EvE. Consigne the universe to the players, FD

give the players control of the game, They will destroy it every single time. Frontier should always be the master of this universe, in no uncertain terms.

How often has that happened? Most MMOs are themepark WOW clones (ED included), where everything is curated by the devs, and these are the ones that fail first. Eve is the only large-scale MMO where almost everything is controlled by players.

By the way, I've often notice a misanthropic undercurrent in these threads by the purists ("I don't want to deal with other humans ever! They ruin it!") Maybe that's the root-cause for the want to keep the game in its pure 80s glory.

Let us make our own game.

Corporations, are needed.

Why?

Player controlled statuons, are needed

Why?

I have played both Elite and Eve. They are fundamentally different games, with the only thing linking them being that they are both about flying spaceships around in an open universe. This means that just because something is in Eve does NOT mean it is needed, or even a good idea, for Elite. If anything, Elite actually gives me much more freedom than Eve, so, frankly, every single part of your post is simply wrong, as far as I can see.

Just got back from playing. I own three ships, now. Found a nice toaster to operate from. All I really need is an Ag world that isn't half the map away. Swatted two more annoying NPC's. I had no cargo, and no bounties on me. You would swear they were acting like humans...

Looks like the thread is still the same. :(

Having played Eve for 5 years since just after Beta, I saw what it started as and what it became, small groups of players (by comparison) locking out huge sections of resources from even the most ardent solo player, by claiming sovereignty on a choke point and forcing the majority of non alliance PVP into the already pretty dangerous low sec. That left solo players and those who weren't particularly interested in PVP, (which made up the huge majority of players), locked into a small section of high sec, which then became massively overcrowded.

I'd hate for Elite to end up like that and I'd quit at the first sign of it becoming anything like Eve.

Never had issues with 'locked down' sections and systems. Eve is huge and there's plenty of places to go around and get all the resources I needed.

Frankly this is just people complaining for the sake of complaining.

First of all, elite is way bigger, and the way it works, it makes system lockdowns impossible.

a) you play on p2p mp instances
b) you have solo

Just these 2 options prevent people from claiming sectors, systems and resources, but it doesn't stop the ability to build stations and other stuff, you just have to know that those things can't really fully work out as intended (like in 1 instance it can be peace and calm, and on another it can be heavily attacked and destroyed, unless it creates special instances and merges all players together )

ED is rather lackluster when compared to the previous elite games.
EVE is based on the original elite and was taken into a new level.
Adding features from eve, x-series. etc into ED is nothing wrong and can work out.

Right now we need money sinks, all we have to spend money is ships, having stations, corporations and manufacturing to spend money are all good and valid ideas, so eve had those options, what's so wrong about it? The idea of eve piracy, trading, exploring etc was taken from the old elites and people love it, you don't see people going "ohh eve is using elite piracy, I'm going to quit".

Please, for the sake of the future of ED, listen to the ideas, instead of going "HURR DURR, EVE IDEA, ME MAD, ME SMASH".

OK?

not even close.....

People have justifiable concerns that other players will attempt to control them in some way. This might be through restricting access to some systems, to 'pushing' people into working for others, to simply attacking people in some areas.

Many people will want to play the game their way, and will not want to be controlled in any way. I decide what I do, where I do it, who I do it with, and when I do it. I also decide why I do it, and how I do it. No one else decides. Just me.

I have no problem with cooperative goals being set for groups of players, but solo mode should remain as it is, and private groups should remain as they are. I have no problem with arenas or PvP for those who enjoy that, but let's keep the current options for freedom in.

Cheers, Phos.

Of course ED is a WOW clone in space.

In WOW you farm gold by killing enemies and doing generic missions. Interaction is almost completely PVE. You gain in rank and get better gear. All the NPCs are easy and cower in fear when "the player" encounters them. You have no influence on the game world whatsoever, everything is curated by the devs. Instancing galore.

In Elite Dangerous you farm gold by trading and doing generic missions. Interaction is almost completely PVE. You gain in rank and get better ships. All the NPCs are easy and cower in fear when "the player" encounters them. You have no influence on the game world whatsoever, everything is curated by the devs. Instancing galore.

ED is a classical themepark MMO just with less grouping features. It also has the "chosen one" mechanic from WOW and braindead NPCs doing senseless things (like flying to nowhere) just for the player to interact with.

Gameplay wise, WOW and ED have far more commonalities than Eve and ED.

Very well said, have some Rep.

And to me thats what the Devs want, a Game where no player can limit other players in anyway. Everybody has all the Content and places available, the Game may give you some restirictions (like system permits), but never can other players limit you.

If that is good or not comes down to preference. I like it that way and want it to be that way, if you corporations Name appear in System Map and on Station I'm not against it - what do I care where the Name of the controlling faction is coming from? But the Moment you can limit me I'm against what ever you want.

Thats the design of the Game, thats why I bought it. I don't want a Game where other People can limit me, its okay when you want that but can't I too have a Space Sim?

You do realise I can do all of that without a specifically set up in-game grouping system? I mean, it's 2015 now, fourms cost next to nothing to set up, and real time communication via mumble and jabber servers are just as simple to get running. I can easily form an Elite "corp", have players join up, and declare ownership of systems. I can even build KoS lists and the like.

I'd even go so far as to say having it off-game would make things even more efficient. I assume an in-game corp/guild system would have a preferential grouping setup, so you're playing with corp mates. I wouldn't want that if my goal were to hunt down a specific person. In that case, I'd much rather as many people scattered across the different instances as I can, while using the current "groups" setup to farm co-op with my buddies.

FD is falling into a "closed universe" box style of thinking, only considering specifically what happens within the bounds of the game. Not implementing a guild style feature in Elite doesn't just make the "guild urge" go away, it just forces people to utilize non-Frontier systems to achieve the same things.

Primarily coop game? Are we playing the same game?

I can't see any real coop in Elite right now. You can't even be sure to see the people in your group. And if you're in a private group, chances are you won't see many other commanders than the people in your group.

Sorry Fangrim, I'm too busy enjoying this game as it is designed.

Unlike some people, I read up on the developers intentions and am certain that they got it right. I wouldn't have bought this game if it didn't suit me.

Dude there's like 400 billion systems, there's a handful you can't go in without a permit as you say so what does it matter if a player faction makes a particular system a dodgy place to go as well? There are plenty of other places to sell gold/resonating separators.

Limitations can be a good thing. Conflict and adversity can be a good thing.

Isn't it a bit selfish in a way to be against players seizing control of a system when there are 400 billion of them to go around?

Maybe Eve should be more like Elite.

They're working on it, and have been for years. That's what really gets me laughing is the fact that by the time this game is feature complete it's going to resemble Eve just by dint of parallel development of the same features by both parties.

I'm just wild guessing now but I guess systems that have rares would be among the first to get claimed. Its not like there are that many of them, so good bye rare runs unless you lick the ass of some group and tell them how great they are and that you wanna join.

And sure can limit be good thing, I'm not suggesting every game ever made should do the same thing as Elite. I'm suggesting its okay if there are some Games doing it like Elite so there is something for people like me too out there. Variaty in the Games available is good thing.

And I'm not going to Eve and demand it gets turned into the Same as elite, never have and never will. Because I'm really not selfish, that some game is not made for me is cool because I do realise there are People who want something other then me.
I just would like to have that one Space Sim that actually fits my taste to keep on being like that so I will still have a Space Sim to play in the Future. I will not go and demand SC to be like Elite, its okay, I just would like to have that one Game to enjoy.

400 billion systems, and most people aren't even talking about "claiming" systems occupied by the 3 major factions or high pop independent ones... Variety between games is great, so is variety within a game. It wouldn't effect you at all.

Whoooo ... the joy of controlling a station ...that no one will visit, and no one cares about ....yea .....WHooooooo.

Honestly OP, just play EVE or Star Citizen.

This game is never going to be a deep multiplayer experience in the way you very loosely describe.

We just have to resign ourselves to the fact that ED is was developed by a team who nothing about multiplayer for a group of people who either hate or know nothing about multiplayer games. The chances of anything that you stated in your short post being in the game in any meaningful way is zero.

Sorry.

There is variety in Elite.

What I'm against is changing how the Game works. The Changing you want about having some controll and ability to limit payers would absolutely afffect me, If I'm going in a player controlled system or not. For that to work you have to change the whol P2P mechanic of instancing and getting rid of switching modes and the shared Galaxy.
That would limit me in hugh ways right from the start.

the p2p mechanic is elites Achilles heel mate..it is at best an antiquated and inefficient hack-able little bit of code that
