Give us freedom, the same as EvE. Consigne the universe to the players, FD

You're under an incorrect assumption, ED isn't primarily a game, it's primarily a space sim, with a game added on. If you play it as just a game, you're gonna be bored out of your mind, to the point where you're gonna turn stupid, or quit. If you play it with the mindset of it being a sim, your perspective changes, you see the vast galaxy in a very different light, and your mind opens to possibilities. Where trading is no longer a grind, but a means to an end. Where small accomplishments are more personal, even when the larger audience doesn't notice you, but when you post about it, your imagination fills in the gaps, and you write a story of your adventure, and it grows into something far more than pew pew "gotcha".

If pew pew "gotcha" is what you're looking for, there's a time and a place for it, but in the end result, there's no leader board in ED to show you've done it, except the boring post you make saying "Went to such and such system, killed some pirates, the end". Or you can open your mind, your imagination and that becomes "Went out in search of glory on behalf of the Federation, went to such and such system, there I found it overrun by pirates and brigands(sp), my mouth watered at the thought of taking them down for the Federation, freeing those under their boot heals. I found a few of them, and took them out, then they came at me in droves...."

That's the stuff of legend, where you write the story, and tell it at bar, and embellish the deeds. The sim/game becomes more exciting to you, knowing that, although it was small, and you're really insignificant, you can write a story about it, and make it grander than it truly is.

Think of your normal life, humdrum, work-a-day, nothing big, but you might mean something to someone who's life you touched while doing it. Now write a story about it, embellish that story with grander deeds, make yourself the hero of the day, out of a boring job. That's life, and that's ED.

If you don't enjoy that, there's always Eve to go play :D

What a load of tosh. If I wanted to play imagination games I could sit in a room with star field on the ceiling.

Games have content to interact with. Trying selling a game on the basis of imagination. ED will churn out content to keep themselves in business, if you want to kid yourself along while they do, power to you.

Oh and there is a score board Frontier implemented one. It is called the bounty.

...and for everyone I wouldn't slate EVE, it is very successful and was a pretty hard core game. We had some awesome times in EVE and it has led to friendships of +10 years. ED is promising and different but it is no EVE yet. Would be nice if ED came even close to what that games has achieved.

well said +1

As a reformed EVE player, I can point out that EVE has almost certainly cheesed off probably well over 10x the number of current players. For some that minor "cheesing off" transformed into deep hatred for the grindy, flaccid, implementation of a laggy virtual universe filled with posturing cowards, where the basest of human behavior is not only allowed but encouraged and cultivated as desireable. And that isn't even touching on the inaccuracies between how they say the game works and what testing shows. I've finally concluded that it takes some very special mental "characteristics" to play that game long term.
.
If you love EVE So much that you ask for Elite to be remade in its image, in whole or in part, then please go play EVE and let FD make the game THEY want to make.

HAHAHA while I find a lot of your post very amusing, I have to point out that I'm a 1984er and I wish this game was more than just original Elite updated with graphics and a (very) fancy universe. There is a very musty smell of old fart around these forums, not every idea since 1984 has been a bad one. I totally agree with the point of view that we shouldn't make a generic modern game and that Elite deserves to be special - but there's a lot that could be done to make ED fantastic that is being totally dismissed as "Too modern" or "No, EVE has it" or "No, we never had that in 1984"

It all reminds me of home I have to say. I live in a little village in Cornwall and we dont have a mobile signal. There is a offer of a mast a mile away but the old lot round here refuse saying we dont need it . Much like this game sometimes dismissing anything that isnt cannon.

Never had that trouble in Jumpgate Morat did we lol? Oh we never got an update thats why hehehe.

1. You're asking him to think of ED as a stripped out Elite.

2. When you went straight into the emotive if you want more it always means Pew-Pew, was switch off time.

3. Imagine aspects of the game?! Seriously why not tell him to read a book about elite. It's 2015 not 1984.

4. Finishing with go play Eve if you don't like it, nice one, how about you go back to Elite (1984) it sounds perfect for you.

Critiques?

That's not what I said was it.

I specifically stated ED was different and its early stages it would be nice if ED made it as far as EVE in its own right. Many people don't like EVE due to the time investment it takes but it is still successful. It is the only space MMO that has been anywhere near successful.

I mentioning EVE, ED and grinding in the same sentence at the moment ED loses lol

My point is wishful thinking and play acting in the absence of content is strange at best.

Unfortunately, some people would rather repeat the same tired "Don't make it like Eve" response than actually post a reasoned argument. Heck, if someone posts something I disagree with, and I feel strongly enough to post a response, I at least have the respect to muster up some form of argument. The amount of times you get "You mentioned BLAH BLAH, stopped reading at that point."... frankly, it boggles the mind, and is downright lazy.

Some people also adopt an air of superiority if the terms "end game", "boss" or "WoW" are mentioned. I really can't understand how people can bring snobbery into the world of games.... after all... THEY'RE GAMES.

We all want Elite to succeed, and we all have ideas on what could be added to it... unfortunately, we don't all have common courtesy.

Yeah, weird because essentially it's what everyone answered, weird eh?

Go play Eve and lEVE us alone

Sounds like this guy doesn't like forum content. Why don't you leave us alone and go read some other forum. May I suggest SomethingAwful.

I think its more complicated and interesting than simple "make elite into something else" - read some of the ideas here and you will see that this is not about "make elite into eve" at this point.

I don't like forum content that adds nothing to the game, goes against the guidelines for its development and honestly it's just plain daft
Maybe try posting something relevant and intelligent?

Good. Does that mean we don't have to see any more "Elite should be Eve" posts?

I doubt it; some people are more open-minded that others and like to contrast Elite with other games that are out there.

You do always have the option of not clicking on these types of threads. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate that.

You have read every post have you?

Do you realise what a pillock you're being to the people in this thread who took time and effort and addressed the OP's ideas? Only to be told by you they're instantly dismisive towards it?

Oh I did, that's why I answered that. Seemingly inline with most of the other commenters but whatever

You mean you don't like forum content that goes against your particular viewpoint.
