The question FD should have asked themselves is this: "do we want him inside the tent, p!ssing out, or outside the tent, p!ssing in?"

At least leaving him outside of the tent they have the ability to close the zipper/front 'door', him being inside would just cause a mess for everyone else in it.

If the second reason they gave is true, then the first reason, not enough keys can be seen as a lie. They should have just said the second one first, then we would have had a 40 page plus thread about 'FD are just SJW's now'.

It can be seen as a lie if you don't believe it, but they could be telling the truth. Management said they can allocate X number of keys to be allocated for free. The person replying is being truthful.

Since we won't know the truth of that statement, its fair enough to accept it, or at least not try and claim it is a lie without proof.

As has been noted several times in the thread, Yamiks is simply a freelancer with a shtick and ultimately FDev simply didn't care that much. I have a hunch that this entire debacle will have little effect to Odyssey sales figures.

I very much doubt he will influence (ha!) sales figures either way - judging from the posts on his videos a large proportion of his audience doesn't strike me as day-one purchasers of the DLC.

It was discussed earlier in the thread - and as I noted, IMO there's a massive difference between shutting out a critical voice because they criticize your products versus not endorsing a channel where the problem is toilet humour. Had Hardware Unboxed been some kind of edgy frat humour channel and got canned for their distasteful presentation, I seriously doubt there would been any sort of public outcry to get them reinstated as review piece recipients.

Yes it would be a lot more delicate if the food we ate came out the other end in small cellofane wrapped packages that smelled like perfume wouldn't it? However, human faeces contains all sorts of stuff that you don't want to be close to, so evolution has caused it to be somewhat disgusting.

I mentioned taste (good vs bad) earlier, and I still have a feeling that you think that some taste is better than other?

You seem to disregard the fact that Yamiks has 100K subscribers. That is a considerable amount of the players of the game. So yes, this is a stupid (and highly unnecessary) PR move from Fdev. It also shows, that some of the players aren't that concerned about profanities. I don't play the game to experience profanity as such, but I must say that the galaxy is somewhat unrealistically tidy, and that I also think some of you have a pretty messed up idea about children's vocabulary when no grown up is listening.

I'm pretty sure it's not a case of avoiding "bad press". Alpha is open to anyone, the entry ticket is just few tens of dollars, there's no NDA, so anyone can praise or spit on it. FDEV just don't want to do him a favor knowing he already decided on his bias. They just don't want to endorse his pov.

I don't get why trying to find more than this in FDEV's reaction.

Agreed, the first statement was sufficient and FD should remember not to feed the Yamiks

However the two statements are not mutually exclusive
There may be a limited number of free keys and Yamiks was not considered an appropriate recipient of one of those free keys.

He just needs to generate ~30-40k clicks on his salty rant video and the YT revenue will cover alpha access

There have been 12 million+ copies of ED 'sold'... 100k is such a tiny part of the overall sales made as to be insignificant.

I get the feeling that this is the reason Yamiks didn't get a key - someone asked "why are we giving this guy freebies?".

I believe that as well.

But if I worked for a company, and found out the company was rewarding with freebies a dude that made a living on constantly calling me lazy and stupid, I would feel quite stabbed in the back.

Likewise if I owned a company, and some dude that made a living out of insulting my employees would knock on my door and asked for freebies, I would most surely tell him to frag off and fart in his general direction.

In the end I find it absolutely hilarious that some dude would think so highly of himself that he becomes completely convinced he is duly entitled to freebies from a company, to the point of feeling insulted by being denied such freebies.

You obviously didn't follow the "case" of Hardware Unboxed vs Nvidia. That caused quite a stir, and Nvidia didn't come out as the winners. Also, just because something "is and always has been" doesn't necessarily make it "right".

I'm glad to see Frontier are more courageous than you think they should be. It signals pride in their work not to cower down before Yammiks and for me that amount of self confidence is a good omen for the update, which will stand on it's own two feet next week, so to speak, no matter what.

I fail to see what this has to do with anything. I'm certainly aware that frat humour has subscribers, but it hardly means that I have to have a penchant for it, nor that FDev should specifically include it in their marketing plans.

This and problems with such numbers has already been addressed several times in the thread. How many of those subscribers, active or not, are going to make a buy/no-buy decision based on this debacle, what do you think? Will anyone actually even remember this whole debacle next week?

Both are not mutually exclusive though if you think about it.

Assume the limit of keys is true, they have to decide who they allocate them to - and Y didn't make the cut for the reasons given in the second email. Seems all pretty congruent to me.
