So you think that if they had more keys they would give them to people whose content they don't seem to approve of? Not convinced.
No, both can be true though - they didn't have enough keys and he didn't get one for that reason as he was too low on the pecking order due to his style which doesn't gel with FD's corporate culture, and even if they did he still wouldn't get one for the same reason. They just tried to be polite in their first reply but felt to be more explicit hence the second (somewhat poorly worded, granted) response when pressed.

But it didn't clarify - it changed their reason

Email 1 : We ran out of keys - soz!
Email 2: We don't like your stuff - no key!

I don't see them retracting the not enough keys statement, although they did apologize for the "miscommunication", it didn't say what the miscommunication was. Just they felt that somehow they didn't give a good enough response.

Like i said, its quite possible for the statement about not enough keys to be the truth, depending on who wrote it.

The names are blanked out, so no idea if it is the same person replying. Maybe it got bumped upstairs after the first email.

First email:

Some corporate response in the hope he'd go away.

Second email:

Stronger clarification that they simply do not want to work with him as they have others they prefer to work with.

However it's worded, the meaning is the same.

I would also suggest that the number of copies sold due to subscribers actually turning their back on the game because 'FDev were mean to him' will be negligible. Does anyone actually think like that?

One thing's for sure, this thread wouldn't have gotten the legs it has if it popped up just one week later :D

Both are not mutually exclusive though if you think about it.

Assume the limit of keys is true, they have to decide who they allocate them to - and Y didn't make the cut for the reasons given in the second email. Seems all pretty congruent to me.
That is true, bit the first reason is a practicality, the second reason is a moral choice. They have done themselves no favours here.

The first reason now looks like a polite blow off, and in fact, if they really wanted to, they could have got him a key I'm sure, there must be someone else they can bump, there is always someone else to be bumped. It has a kernel of truth in it so it is not a direct lie, I think it was disingenuous. Th fact is, they don't like him for whatever reasons and were not going to go to that effort for him.

Where I have a problem with FD is that they then go on to make a stance about political correctness. Now it happens that I agree with that stance but to have not put that boldly up from in the first place, weakens that stance.

A man tries to enter a restaurant, he is wearing an offensive T-Shirt, it's homophobic. The owners tell him there aren't enough seats. The customer says well, if you juggle those tables and chairs around, you can make room. They then say, actually, it is your T-shirt. Why be embarrassed to say that from the start?

The point in refusing is that you object to it, why hide that? Make that objection clear. Not some mumble about chairs.

But it doesn't clarify their first position. It is a new position.

Okay, I believe that they may have had limited keys. They just tried to blow him off with that story.

A second message that clarifies would be showing communications they had with Steam (or whoever) sating the keys were limited. That clarifies it.

I don't believe that. You give him too much weight or over estimate their fear of him. They have a proven track record in trying to be politically correct.

Additional reasons.

First response boilerplate response.

Second was after it got kicked upstairs.

As I wrote earlier most of Yamiks critique about the game is constructive if you are able to see through the profanities. E.g. that the game lacks a better storyline, or that the balancing of the game is way off, and that the attempts to fix it often just makes things worse. He is not the only creator stating that, and some of the other creators have used expressions like "gently caress" as well :) Also, have any of you experienced saying/thinking "bad" words, whenever you experienced something stupid in the game that could have been easily fixed ages ago?

Regarding the "numbers". None of us really know. I'm pretty sure that some of Yamiks subscribers don't watch every video he creates. I'm also somewhat skeptical about 12 million sold copies meaning that even half a million regularly plays the game. It doesn't look that way when playing in open, but it does sound good if you want to attract investors.

Whether this will influence the sales? Time will tell. I hope not, because I love the game, and I would like to see it thrive.

...Alpha is open to anyone, the entry ticket is just few tens of dollars, there's no NDA, so anyone can praise or spit on it...
Which should have been FDs reply to theYamiks, because:
...FDEV just don't want to do him a favor knowing he already decided on his bias. They just don't want to endorse his pov...
---------
I don't get why trying to find more than this in FDEV's reaction.
Because of what FD actually did reply. Moronic behaviour.

Well, he didn't, because in the middle of all the profanity he seems to be a pretty decent guy.
Stop with that "decent guy" stuff, please. It doesn't matter.
If he wants to be supported by Frontier, he needs to refrain from using profanity and offensive language. He can be as critical as he wants in civilised manner, without wiggling joystick and calling people names. It's that simple. ANd I bet he will be critical, just without company supporting him in his way of doing that.
Nah - they wouldn't have given him anything anyway. That thing they said about not having enough keys was just a way to let him down gently. But he obviously didn't get the hint, so they had to be straight about it.

I agree, FD should have told him to fart off immediately. But in the end, the same result was achieved. :)
Don't you think the second message is slightly undermined by not saying it straight away? People in this thread are still desperate to believe that it is simply because he is critical of the game. They're not going to buy the second message any more than the first. They should have been clear. This would have been an entirely different thread if they had.
