Glorious HIPs - 3306

I've updated the spreadsheet with the latest info from edsm. I've really slowed down though, I think after five and a bit slices I'm reaching the limits of my HIP-scanning stamina for the moment! (plus Blaseball is on siesta this week, I've run out of Netflix shows and I'm going to have to do the techie equivalent of crunch at work* so I'm really not feeling it... :) )

There's around about 17,000 HIP stars left to go. grins

*thanks, 2020.

Well, I took a short break and am already back. Working on Slices 19 & 20 properly this time.....and no white dwarfs again...ever.

White dwarfes are fine, just set throttle to zero on entry. When you want to leave after scanning the system, line up on you target system with throttle at zero and charge the FSD, when it reaches ready to jump set throttle to max. Doing that it doesn't even matter if you are pointed straight at the dwarf, you will jump safely, once in jump countdown nothing can affect you, even flying through the exclusion zone.

How does that help me super charge the FSD, though?

Because thats how I got booped.

I ran out of jumponium and didnt have a choice.

It used to be difficult to get Jumponium once, there are charts mapping out jumponium routes to hard to get places, not it's like sand, volcanic sites, bio sites, material traders, I have about 50 premium at the moment but will be stocking up with a full load once I get back to the bubble, never risk cutting your self short on Jumponium, of course if you FC is nearby you can always call that in for a rescue now as well. But never run short of Jumponium!

After having visited my last reachable system in my slice (26KLYs from sol), I am back near the bubble and trying to find the last two HIPs that so far redirect to an invisible star and should be a secondary star in a system nearby: HIP 84391 and 100591. I will visit the surrounding systems and will hopefully be lucky sometime. Any tips on what systems to search for particularly? Must the main star also be a HIP star in such a system? Any insights about the radius around the invisible star I should be searching?

All the other systems in my slice are now in EDSM or not reachable because too low or too high (even with a FC) or do not resolve (marked X in the spreadsheet).

It will almost certainly be a named star, but it might not be named as a HIP or HD, it may be a HIP or HD with a different custom name. The one I found was basically next to the spot where the name resolved to, they should be close together because theoretically it is two stars originally identified as close together but unrelated that were later found to be binaries. So look for neaby named stars with a binary secondary (or higher) with the correct class type.

Varonica, this is extremely valuable information, thanks a lot!

When you are as haphazardly casual about things as I am, it's more likely. I stocked up prior to DW2 but only a little bit. Then did some engineering and, well, yeah....lost count, didnt pay attention and then ooops. No niobium. Ship go boop.

It's usually Germanium or Ytrium I run short of, I spent a couple of days collecting Germanium before this run out to the end of my slice just in case, but it's easy enough to take care, every time you synthesise it tells you exactly how many jumps you have left. Keep in mind there is a third way, you can always ask someone with a FC nearby to help you.

I've been on a bit of a hiatus while messing with MS Flight Simulator. But I plan to get back and finish up my slice(s) soon. Space beckons!

Just about to the end of this slice myself, just under 3kly to the furthest star then turn around and do the 21kly back, catching up with the highest and lowest FC stars on the way.
