Glorious HIPs - 3306

I've run into issues with HIP 16845 and HIP 47287. Some planets are not added to EDSM although I have scanned or even mapped them. (Yes, I did the EDDN sync.) Those are in detail:
HIP 16845: C3 C4 C5 C6 C7
HIP 47287: A3b A3c A3e A3f
Could someone please visit and re-scan those?

Here are the lists of non-HIP/HD/HR-names stars (first 3 columns are the HIP/HD/HR designations). Let me know if there are still some weird characters.

HIP 36627 - BL Lyncis is the secondary star in the HIP 36626 - VV Lyncis system.

My only question at this point is - how did you create these big tables ??

And yes, there are strange characters in columns 2 and 3, but I threw those columns away anyway.

Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V directly from spreadsheet into the forum makes those. I can do it in some other way if it still creates issues (like a tab-delimited txt or something). Direct copy-paste wins by lazyness because I don't have to create intermediate files, and I can keep those "derived" lists toghether in the spreadsheet file in case they need updating.

After the "joy of science" in post #616 I assume the issue is the right-aligned formatting Excel automatically does for cells containing numbers.
I manually left-aligned the first column, and the weird chars are gone. (Didn't do for the other columns though.)

Oh, ok thanks, didn't think of doing it like that !
It was lucky that I didn't need the middle columns. Next time you could just left align everything ?

I've run into issues with HIP 16845 and HIP 47287. Some planets are not added to EDSM although I have scanned or even mapped them. (Yes, I did the EDDN sync.) Those are in detail:
HIP 16845: C3 C4 C5 C6 C7
HIP 47287: A3b A3c A3e A3f
Could someone please visit and re-scan those?

Ok just checked, EDSM now has HIP 16845 C3 C4 C5 C6 C7, but still not HIP 47287: A3b A3c A3e A3f, that's strange. I do note that there's nothing for HIP 47287 in EDDB except the two stars!

I will see how far away they are from my location when I get back online.

Are you sure about HIP 16845? The moons of C3-C7 are there, but not C3-C7 themselves.
This is how EDSM looks to me:

By the way, HIP16485 C6 offers nice views: C6a is a Shepherd Moon between A and B Rings, B ring is visible and forms rocks, C6b is an offset ringed moon, and the near-by nebulas (Barnard's Loop, Flame, Witch Head, Pleiades) line up nicely.

You are in fact quite correct, I missed that when I checked...dammit wrong again!

I have added them to my bookmarks and will go to them when I get back to the bubble if no-one else beats me, they are just on the far side of the bubble from my current slice and I am heading back now scanning as I go!

Very nice, and something else very nice happened today, I jumped away from my FC to record HD 119556, surprisingly it was already tagged, unusual for this far out, but it was actually tagged by Allitinil, what a nice surprise. Nothing mapped so I made sure I mapped one little moon just to get my name on it somewhere with the great Allitnil!

Hello folks! I'm also coming back to this after a long plot-related break. It looks like in my absence there's been some reorganization around here. Can someone quickly catch me up, what're we doing now for submitting our results? I'm about halfway through scanning slice 44, and it looks like my scans are reflected via the EDSM sync, but I've also got all these notes about missing/unreachable/etc stars?

Hello Maolagin, welcome back !

Yes, Jackie Silver took early retirement about early December (hopefully not permanent), and I took over updating the spreadsheet and generally looking after progress and collating other data like missing/unreachable stars etc. So if you have notes about missing/unreachable/etc stars, then we would love for you to post them here. This is easier for you and I can keep a track of whats new. Also, if you post the named stars here, it means you don't have to update the main spreadsheet at all.

I update the main spreadsheet about once a week, usually around Sunday, so that's why your scans are kept largely up to date.

If you separate out your data into missing / unreachable /permit locked / named stars (non-catalogue names) etc and post them in roughly the formats in the table, that would be good. The table shows what information is used for each record type. Use separate tables for each type, or just plain text files.

HIP numberName in Elitex coords y coordz coordNotesRecord type
HIP 1234Missing Stars
HIP 1234HD 1224123123123too far etcUnreachable Stars
HIP 1234AldebaranNamed stars
HIP 1234HD 1234Permit locked

For unreachable stars I try to keep a record of the approximate coordinates so that the distance to the nearest star can be calculated, but this is not essential.
Other than that, just post what you can and I'll try to make sense of it ! The main thing is that I need the HIP numbers , because that's what everything is indexed on.

I had a look through Slice 23 again, as there seemed to be some data missing.

I didn't really intend for this format to be used for mixed record types, but having just pasted this straight into a temp spreadsheet, it seems to work quite well !

And yes, there are now quite a few entries where stars are listed as unreachable, yet have exact coordinates.
I am aiming to remove the unreachable notes at some point. But perhaps there are some triangulated stars lurking in there.

That first name should be HD 24095. Oops.

I have just created a new thread "Wanted Apprentice Explorers" because I found that sector 51 had a lot of stars which Jackie Silver had left unvisited. Most are near the bubble, so I set up a route and invited novice explorers to follow it.

I did it really because I don't have time, even though I'm back in the bubble, I have to take my carrier out to finish sectors 52&53.
In fact Jackie had covered the adjacent sectors so I thought I would check her sectors for hard to reach stars. That's when I found the 50 stars quite close to the bubble.

There are always going to be a few stars missing, I may have missed some although I am being very thorough and in fact visited some stars twice because I forgot to mark them off...silly me!

It looked as if Jackie had abruptly stopped with exactly 100 stars to go in the slice 51 list.
Many were out of reach and some not found, leaving 53 unexplored. 3 were so far out they didn't fit onto an easy route near the bubble.
But I intend to visit those 3 stars , and some likely looking out-of-reach, during my slice 52 carrier voyage.

Here's another list I made of stars on the unreachable list, but within FC distance of a known star on EDSM. This time ordered by slice numbers.
There are gaps in the slice numbers because not all slices have this data, and some slices with data don't have any stars within reach.

I'm in the process of refueling my FC to explore sectors 47 to 53. I haven't worked out a route yet, but HIP 84635 is 26kly away, so may take some time.

Just a note, there are a few stars that were unreachable on some of my slices, but I believe were in reach of stars that were also unreachable, so it's possible there may be a roundabout route to them. Not sure whether this will be my last slice, it depends on the Odyssy Alpha/Beta and how much time I put into them but if I am not doing a slice I will be happy to put some time into checking out possible missing/mistakenly marked unreachable etc.

Let's see how long it takes me to finish this slice and how far away the Alpha is then.

Got a problem with HD 105911. I've visited it, but it won't go into the EDSM database. When I jumped in EDSM thought I had jumped to Trieneou VK-B c2-0, which is over 22,000ly away near the galactic core.

Apparently the Trieneou system has somehow been stored with an incorrect ID64 (the unique identifier for a system used internally at FDev and also by EDSM), which is actually the one for HD 105911. One of the EDSM gurus has had a look and identified some 300 systems with erroneous ID64s.

Not sure there is anything I can do to help with fixing this; I'll keep you posted.

That's the second one now, I hit one in one of my slices that did exactly the same and, I have a good half a dozen un-HIP related stars in my travel map that do that.
