Glorious HIPs - 3306

Ok good, I will work on that when I get a chance.
Edit : Forget the previous version of this post, HIP 68292 is in edsm (courtesy of endlessfalls). Not sure why I thought it didn't .

Edit 2: If you cut and paste from the above table directly into edsm, it doesn't work. Weird characters are included.
And the original spreadsheet was created in LIbreOffice, no excel anywhere.

So I got to within 430ly of HIP 95437, but then can't set the FC destination for the final jump. Asteroid belt in the way, I suppose.
Plus, there is no way to get within conda jump range. Boooo.

Which led me to think... If you neutron boost your FSD, then immediately dock on your carrier, can you take the neutron boost with you ?
Also, am I right in thinking you can't triple your jump range with a neutron boost and use premier jumponium at the same time ?
That way my conda could jump 80*3*2 = 480ly, which would just be enough.

Edit:
So just logged out, then logged back in, was going to look for a close-by neutron star.
But it will now allow me set the FC jump to HIP 95437. Strange.

Right, you can't stack jumponium with a neutron boost.

Now, the FC trick. That might be worth an experiment. I don't know what will happen there. My guess is that the neutron boost will get lost, but we won't know for sure without a test.

I have noticed, if you try and set a jump point to a star early, within the 5 minute cooldown, you will of course not be able to jump, but subsequently even after the cooldown you will still get a refusal to jump to that particular star until you relog, so that is maybe your issue there. The game doesn't clear the FC jump lock placed on that system even after the cooldown, which I suspect is a bug and should really be reported, but I will have to double check it to make sure I am not imagining things.

Yes, I think that's probably what happened, I was in a rush. When I eventually got to HIP 95437 there was nothing there, apart from the star itself.

My alt's carrier is back in the bubble so I'll be back to my slice very soon.

This week's progress report, covering the last 2 weeks. Very impressive stats for slices 46 to 53.

I noticed that you edited the main spreadsheet earlier today.
Unfortunately that was after I overwrote your changes. Hopefully it was just the two stars HIP 90756 and HIP 105632 which I think you marked as "not found".

Refueling my FC now ready to head out for a few days exploring before the big kahuna washes over us! I will start hitting that list from slice 1, will get a few and probably still do some during Alpha and Beta, they are doing updates right through so there will be times when it won' t be available.

Ok that interesting, previously when I tried to copy that table it came across with funny characters, this time it copied across fine, no funny characters at all!

Ah ok, that's because I copied it directly into google docs, it still looks strange in Libre Office.

Starting to look like I shall be using the Spansh data dumps from now on.

Spansh merge starting ...
1926439 monthly update records read
60831728 master records read
62652807 records written

EDDB/EDSM merge starting ...
45230560 EDDB records read
60976740 EDSM records read
61558564 records written

The EDSM/EDDB data was collected 4 days ago, the Spansh update data was taken today.
Which accounts for some of the differences, and is why comparisons should really be checked at the same time.

The Spansh data also contains information about the number of bodies in a system,
if that number is zero, then I assume it hasn't been visited, and is probably unreachable.
Also there are no problems with duplicated names caused by not preserving the case of star names.

There wasn't much, so I've finished up the carrier systems in slice 2. I could take another slice or continue visiting other carrier systems in other slices.

It seems it will be at least another day before I can head off, I made a rookie mistake, doesn't that annoy you? When trading mats for my double engineered FSD I actually made a mistake and traded some of my Jumponium mats and now only have 1 available for each level, so I will need to restock those. First thing to visit the mat trader to see if I can trade back from that mistake, if not a visit to the crystal spike region to gather more mats!

Slice 36 is free.

I am currently working on a better system for finding fleet carrier stars.
When I returned from an FC hunt in slices 47..53, and reran the FC search program, it found quite a few new reachable FC systems in those slices.
This was because the current FC program doesn't take into account the fact that newly found FC systems can act as a stepping stone to ones even further out.

I have developed a way of taking this into account, but it's not ready yet.

Ok good, I will work on that when I get a chance.
The FC route table for slice 1 missed a couple of stars which should be reachable after visiting stars already on the route.. :

HIP 78342 is close to HD 144547 distance = 135.2
HD 133314 is close to HIP 74921 distance = 278.3

I tried to redo the table, but it got too difficult. So decided it was easier just to list them separately.
I also discovered that quite a few of the unreachable stars are mutually closer together than the table might suggest.
I found it best to apply markers to all the target stars in a region, but I guess you do this anyway.

I tried to redo the table, but it got too difficult. So decided it was easier just to list them separately.
I also discovered that quite a few of the unreachable stars are mutually closer together than the table might suggest.
I found it best to apply markers to all the target stars in a region, but I guess you do this anyway.

Thanks, will add them, still hunting mats at the moment.......maybe I won't need the Jumponium but you never know, best to be sure.

Been diving back in a bit lately, sorry for the hiatus(es). Finally back in my element: the weird jump labyrinths of the high elevations off the galactic ecliptic. Lots of discoveries to be had; the last HIP I visited today was completely unvisited and took a few augmented jumps to reach. It is slow going, especially with how many interesting and untouched systems there are up there, but I am homing in on one I thought initially might be unreachable and I am well-stocked on FSD injection materials, so all is well.

I noticed that my data has not been uploading correctly to EDSM since I upgraded my hard drive, so I fixed that and manually uploaded all my logs. Took a good, long time. Hopefully that fills in some of the data missing for my slice.

There are a few stars in my current list of bookmarks which are definitely not reachable in a ship but might be reachable in a carrier. I will try to gather more data later. If anybody brings a fleet carrier out to Slice 37 to hit some of them up once that data is available, I would not mind helping to collect some tritium for the voyage (or trying, since mining is not my forte).

Here's a list of unreachable stars in sector 1. I suspect Cmdr Pirin didn't have a fleet carrier since many of these stars are easily reachable by one.
I have sorted them into order by increasing distance from sol for those stars above the plane, and in reverse for those below the plane.
So it looks like an outward journey across the top of the galaxy and a return across the bottom.

As always, nothing is guaranteed with this route. Note that some edsm stars eg HD 147179, are the closest star to a number of HIP stars.

There are 2 stars in sector 1 which are much further away than these, around 8 and 13k ly from sol, but to keep things tidy I didn't include them.

Ahaha, HD 119392, the closest star to HIP 66421, was suddenly familiar, I find I have been there already, one of the bodies has my tag on it and I have the system information! On checking my records I see HD 119392 is in slice 3, and I was wondering about that earlier actually, that some stars unreachable for one slice may actually be reachable from a neighbouring slice, but it's so hard to find individual stars when they are that far apart it's very hard to spot them even when they are there!
