Glorious HIPs - 3306

Ahaha, HD 119392, the closest star to HIP 66421, was suddenly familiar, I find I have been there already, one of the bodies has my tag on it and I have the system information! On checking my records I see HD 119392 is in slice 3, and I was wondering about that earlier actually, that some stars unreachable for one slice may actually be reachable from a neighbouring slice, but it's so hard to find individual stars when they are that far apart it's very hard to spot them even when they are there!
Yes, the program for finding these closer stars isn't constrained by the slices.

Yes indeed. It's a shame that the jump lines aren't available for a Carrier. I suppose if they were the map would be completely illegible if you were in a dense patch of stars.

Even in my Phantom I only turn jump lines on when on the edge, so it wouldn't really matter if there were available as long as they could be disabled, that would be nice!

Yes, the program for finding these closer stars isn't constrained by the slices.

I think that's part of the issue here and why so many are being missed. So far every single star you have marked as "the closest star" has actually been in slice 3 and already been visited by me, so it might be there is no star close enough in slice 1. I've also noted curiously that many of the stars in your list have already been visited by the same CMDR, for instance for HIP 66421 every single body not only been scanned but mapped by a CMDR Zach Ertman, the exact same for HIP 66670, so far the two I have added to EDSM.

Finally found my first completely unexplored system on that list, HD 129447, it's in easy FC reach of at least 5 other systems so I am surprised it hasn't been visited yet because most of the others around it have, lucky me I suppose!

My program shows at least 10 stars within FC reach of HD 129447....

HIP 72770 155.5
HD 131784 177.4
HD 126247 245.8
HIP 70464 257.5
HD 126032 271.6
HIP 73281 280.9
HIP 71372 365.8
HD 133686 390.9
HD 129583 420.2
HD 125411 489.5

I am going to publish a more complete list of unreachable stars, when I can find a way to simplify the results into something more manageable.

Ah yes but I was only referencing the ones on the list and that I had found previously, I have no doubt there are more, which does make all the stranger that it was the only one in that area entirely unvisited.

Also, 214 new star names and coordinates were added this week. This does not include the stars above.
The next update may not be for a couple of weeks while we get to play (test) Odyssey.

I am charging ahead here trying to get my list finished, did the top half and now traversing the depth of the galaxy to get the bottom ones, nearly there but doubt I will finish it before Odyssey drops but it's not a big job now, a bit here and there between testing the Alpha and pretty soon I'll be finished

hey there!
not sure in which slice this system is situated,
but by chance I stumbled over this one...
HIP 10932
3Kylies below the plane , "under" Witchhead Nebula...

:)

Slice 28.

As far as I can see there's currently no-one doing slice 28 at the moment so keep your eyes open for more, just keep in mind the slices are quite narrow!

already on my way again, sry.
just dropped "down" from the bubble before I started my journey to the Outer Orion Spur...
the other HDs/HIPs in that area I've been aware of are already in EDSM,
some guy called Erimus discovered around there ;)

I'll have a trawl through the data again and see if anything comes up.

This week's progress..... The increase in slice 9 for Jackie, is not that Jackie has started again, but I thought I would try and visit some of the easy stars in slice 9 before EDO.

Well it appears I may have a truly "unreachable" star in FC range. HD188943 refuses me permission to jump in, no slots available apparently, so unless we can find a star close enough for Jumponium, or a Neutron star close enough for a Neutron boost in it may be forever unreachable. I have looked around and can't see any stars closer, a few around the same distance scattered about. It may be a bug so I will try again tomorrow.
I found nothing closer than Blae Dryeia YQ-M d7-0 which is the one on the list. There are apparently 12 other stars within FC distance, but even with a neutron boost, at 460ly you won't reach HD188843. Of course, there may be stars around that are not in the spansh data, but as known, they are very hard to find.

Thanks, I will look again the Odyssey download won't be available yet for me so I have a few hours before that starts in this part of the world.

Can I claim slice 45?

I think the missing entry from slice 23 is row 102704, which doesn't sctually have a HIP number at all. It has the HD number 12447, but this isn't in the game, so I reckon it should go down as a "not found".

Finally getting moving again, decided to motivate myself by jetting out to the end of the line rather than keep slogging through the big list 1-2kly out. Already bagged the first completely untagged HIP I've seen in a while!

More usefully, here's I think the complete list of missing stars from Slice 44:
