Slice 45 is done. I couldn't find a route to HD 114595 - the closest star I found was HD 119966 and it's 575ly away - so that's another unreachable.

Also, the "Not in EDSM, Potentially Undiscovered" stars are still not in EDSM as far as I can see, so hopefully you will be visiting those at some point as well as the FC stars.

I have included all the FC stars into the unreachable stars list and will be running the search routine to find the nearest known star to them in the next few days, so keep an eye out for that.

It has gone quiet in here.

Well, in meantime I have visited everything the 77ly-on-fumes Phantom could reach in Slice 25 and 26... So I got myself a carrier.

All systems where I didn't see a route quickly I assumed as unreachable for now. I've taken approximate cooridinates for all of them.
@Iron Body , could you run these through your script to check if some are maybe in reach for a carrier?

I have found this a very useful tool, enter the coordinates of the target star and it will tell you if there are any known stars in reach;

For instance it tells me the nearest known system to HIP 49249, is actually HIP 49249.....so someone has already been there, a pilot named Mikish1!

So lets try another HD 57701, now that hasn't given me any results after a few minutes so I am assuming it's way out of range of any known system as indicated by its Z coordinate, a third go!

HD 83766, the nearest known system is HD 84181 at a distance of 255ly, so there is a route to HD 84181 and then a FC jump to HD 83766! Of course it may be you need a FC to get to HD 84181 as well but that's not a problem.

Yes, it was my suggestion that Spansh put the nearest known systems check into his suite. I have tried it a few times, but it doesn't always succeed.
I think there is a time-out on the search, and the search can take a long time.

Also, beware the stars that are in EDSM and maybe Spansh?, but have been triangulated (eg, have no traffic report).
There is at least one pair of HIP stars that are within FC range of each each other, but neither can be reached from anywhere else.

My program also includes new-found reachable stars in the search for further stars, which Spansh can't do.

I have been resting for a few weeks and playing Odyssey around the bubble, but will run the programs again for the latest info.

I fully expect some of those to be reachable. These are just the systems I didn't see anything withhin 500 ly by scrolling up/down.

(On a side note: I need to check HD 102909 again, I'm wondering why the approximate coordinates have decimals...)

Yeah that's one of the most frustrating things right. There can be lone stars all around but spotting them is just a pain.

And yes, approximately estimating a location to 7 decimal places? Gotta be a mistake, did you fall asleep on the keyboard?

Has anyone downloaded the complete EDSM known system dump and tried using Excel to sort the data to provide an alternative to the Spansh nearest system tool? Don't want to waste time doing this if it ain't gonna work....

Well, I haven't tried that with Excel, but I have tried working large sets of data (not that I wanted to do that, but a low acceptance threshold for the intended users was a consideration). The result was a 100MB Excel file with a lot of interpolation formulas and some VBL scripting, and it crashed almost instantly on a 16GB RAM machine.
Considering the EDSM dump is around 2GB, I doubt that will work. Excel isn't a serious consideration for data crunching.
But you're free to prove me wrong.

I'll give it a miss; I thought Excel may be a quick and dirty tool but had doubts over the data set size even for "simply" running a query against the JSON data. Hey ho, may get bored one day

So I ran the search for the nearest stars to unreachables in sectors 25 and 26 and only found the following ..

In sector 25, HD 84141 is 392ly from unreachable star HIP 46368

In sector 26 , HD 84141 is 255ly from unreachable star HIP 47541
In sector 26, HD 84141 is 301ly from unreachable star HIP 46809

So it seems HD 84141 is worth a visit ! From EDSM : "This system was visited for the first time on EDSM by El-Thorgrin on Jun 23, 2020, 1:32:21 PM."

Also in sector 26, HD 213221 is 419ly from unreachable star HIP 13506
HD 213221 is quite low at 503.5625 / -3736.28125 / 2397.84375 and was visited by Cmdr endlessfalls, so you should have fun getting to it !

BTW, there are a large number of HIP stars reachable by carrier in sector 27 , which should not be too far from your position.
I can give you details of these as well if you like.

Ok, so rather than mess about with individual slices, here is the complete list of FC reachable stars where known.
Remember :
1) HD 30938<Flyua Eorgh means visiting the stars from right to left.
2) a + sign on the end of a star name means the star is known to EDSM but has zero bodies, ie it was probably triangulated and is unlikely to be reachable.
3) Some stars have + signs in the middle of their name !
4) The nearest star is not necessarily in the same slice as the unreachable star.
5) Not all slices have any list of unreachable stars at all. So this is not a list of ALL FC reachable stars.
