Goddam Bright Cockpit Lighting!!

I dont understand why just because a vocal part of the community complained about the new lighting the silent majority that said nothing now have to suffer this new bright lighting in the cockpit. A lot of us Im sure loved the dark cockpits of the old ships like the Python. Now this has been ruined. We used to fly these older ship because the lighting in say the Krait was ridiculous. I mean who in their right mind drives down the highway in the middle of the night with their internal light on? Let alone explore the depths of space. When you are in a plane flying at 50000 feet at night you dont try look out the window while the cabin lights are on during meal service . Why cant we just choose our on goddam lighting level for the cockpits. This really sucks.
isn't your problem connected to VR problems. majority of community complained because majority don't have VR. lighting is perfect now. I still have in-game gamma setting almost on full.

That's the reason why - you said nothing.

How were Frontier supposed to know that you:
  1. Disliked the dark lighting?
  2. Liked the dark lighting?
  3. Didn't care enough either way?
4. leave it alone because this was all hashed out during previous versions of Elite so why change it now?
EDIT:---------------------------------------------------------^ by the majority

seriously how was the OP supposed to know what was going to happen?

It is not perfect. Because it cannot possibly BE perfect. It is preference. For the same reason that cars have adjustable dash lighting. The Python used to be slightly too dark for my taste in Horizons. Now it looks like Clark Grizwald installed the cabin lights.

I don't see the problem, I can read the cockpit instruments just fine:

Its just the Imperial lore shader at work- adjust the gamma and get

Oh yeah, the classic "the silent majority" agree with me, opposed to the people who disagree with me "the vocal minority".
For what it's worth, I might be in that silent majority (if it is a majority). I liked the darker cockpits, and thankfully space itself is still pretty dark. And it's more realistic that way. I understand the problem that poses for content makers, and ultimately I just don't care either way enough to have been vocal about it. There are far more important things to fix.

I don't usually jump in on threads like this, but...

When Odyssey launched, the cockpits were really dark. Not the nice balance in Horizons, but dark. However, it wasn't inky blackness (like the darkside of Odyssey planets, which does bother me) so I said nothing.

Now it's like having a floodlight on in your cockpit! It's so bright, the colors look washed out on items in the cockpit (specifically Krait II and Krait Phantom). When your in a station, you have extra lights shining in, and it's really bad.

When you turn the lighting up so much that everything lit looks bleached of color, you over did it.

Devs, please try again and find the happy middle ground between the two extremes.

The most worrying part is that they seem to be clutching at straws and making extreme adjustments to match the Horizons aesthetics. Meanwhile, this was posted pretty soon after release:

I've tried to get one of the CMs to acknowledge the issue in the Update 5 bulletin, but no replies. If they ever decide to acknowledge and fix this, they'll have to revert all the other lighting and HUD brightness changes again. I just don't get it.

Everyone asked for brighter starfields. Literally no one asked for brighter cockpits. There's a reason the majority is silent.

I feel like i need to wear sunglasses under my VR headset now. If this is the quality of "fixes" we can expect in the future then, I am even less optimistic than before.

Went out and bought Everspace 2 (it's in early access but so is Odyssey. at least Rockfish is honest about it.) And X4. Going to miss the flight model but even that's not the same slightly after EDO came out.

That was my utterly confounded reaction to the news, too; Can't recall any such requests, but then again - I'm not even trying to keep up with the big update threads, whose post counts race away like rockets. :7

Because I paid for the bobble heads and cockpit lights and they were barely visible in previous releases.
Fair point.

Also, I'm just getting in game for the first time since last week, station-hopping in Apex right now, so can't really tell: What does the Dashboard Brightness setting do under the graphics quality settings? Could it be the very thing everyone's carping about not having? I've played with it, but I don't know if it affects the Apex lighting or not. Or if it affects lighting at all, really. Nothing really changes when I look at it, and my ship is still at the other end of the system.

EDIT - Yah I see it now - it does indeed make the cockpit dashboard noticeably darker, but it does so by making the ship's HUD darker. I kinda like it.
