Astronomy / Space Going to Mars

Here's the deal, if there were an inkling of evidence to [world wide] government cover ups of extraterrestrial life visiting or existing on this or other planets I would be open to it. The fact is there isn't, just extremely large groups of gullible people being taken advantage of by quacks looking to make fast mega bucks on ignorance and hopes.

Meanwhile, the likes of NASA and other respectable bodies out there strive hard to actually do, and promote "real science", not quackery or YouTube driven pseudoscience. So no, I'm not an open minded guy when it comes to that junk, and to tell you the truth its quite frustrating to see perfectly capable people drawn into utter nonsense just because of an overload of ignorance and frustration to science and their governments.

There you have it. :D

Well Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong did admit to seeing something on the way to the moon tailing them and many other astronauts have seen things whilst in space...That's not admitting there is a conspiracy but are our respected astronauts telling lies.....I would not think so.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlkV1ybBnHI

Also I tend to think there are more things hidden under the sea that could have been there before us and maybe more advanced than us.

The more we learn about science the more things science find is actually possible..
Other dimensions that were once sci-fi are now actually believed possible by a lot of mainstream science ...In fact the more they learn the more they will admit to not ruling out anything...You will now find 99% of scientists believe there is life out there......10 years ago it was probably 10%

Non of this is conspiracy but facts.....Just as interesting really

Let's say it is a city on Mars ... do you really think NASA and the American Gov are really going to let the likes of ME know about it?

It's light reflections and pixel break-up as said above.

Those be words utter by the likes of conspiracy theorists like Richard Hoagland, please tell me you don't actually believe that kind of nonsense. :S

I'll answer that quite easily ... Area 51
A location so secret it doesn't even show up on maps, even though we know it's there. A location that if you and I tried to demand to know what is going on there, we'd be told (politely) to go away. If we tried to physically go there, we'd be shot. DEAD. No messing about.

So yes, if there was evidence of a civilization on Mars or evidence of other intelligent life out there, I really do believe that you and I would be the last people the American gov would want to tell.

And no ... I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories.

I don't think Buzz knows what the hell he's talking about to be honest! Look at this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7RUwbqrO08 - where he says (after rambling for ages) at about 4m30s that it was one of the panels from the rocket.

I think it's a case with most people that they "want to believe" because it makes things more mystical and incredible and wonderful. Visiting aliens must be total dumb asses if they have the technology to visit but end up giving tantalising glimpses of themselves all over the place! Or perhaps their technology is SO good they can detect that it's a blurrycam rather than an HD steadycam and so no need to avoid it.

In a universe as big as it is with (quite likely) many sentient races, it's a bit egotistical to think they'd be that bothered about visiting Earth! :p

If the shoe we on the other foot, I would actively avoid this grungy little rock :p
Or just build a bypass straight through it.

Hence the thought whatever is seen has always been here ( Under the ocean perhaps )

However...we seek other life...so would it be fair to say in 1000 years time if we found a planet with primitive life and were capable of going there...we probably would....So its possible a civilisation just as curious with those capabilities now would do or has done same thing.

You've watch Abyss too many times mate! :p ;)

There are something around 100 thousand million stars in the Milky Way, and the Milky Way is one of a 100 thousand million galaxies... even if it's possible to travel between stars (and it MAY just be the case that it isn't, no matter the technology) then the chances are infinitesimally small that all these so-called sightings are anything more than other explainable (or unexplainable but not alien) phenomena and a bit of wishful thinking or over-active imagination!

Abyss was taken off that theory not vice versa

The fact is in 100 years we have come from horse and cart to capable of flying to mars...in 1000 years time we will have probably worked out folding space etc which even Stephen Hawkin says is possible....So a civilisation 2000 years ahead of us could easily reach us and maybe many others......Now that's being open minded...We are living proof other advanced life could exist

So there's an actual theory that there are aliens in the sea? Can you point me towards the theory and the evidence, I'd like to read it.

I do believe that there is probably life out there - it almost seems a certainty to me, given the numbers of stars and planets involved. I just have zero faith in any evidence they've visited here (or that they even can)... there really isn't any compelling evidence at all. A civilisation that can fold space can't keep out of sight of Apollo 11's window - I mean, come on, it's laughable!

Open minded does not mean Stupid...

Open minded in my understanding is someone willing to change their mind based on facts and evidence. Open mindedness is not agreeing with everything on face value.

I let my mind wander one day...... I have no idea where it is...

Equally I love the rediculousness of conspiracy theories, IF you credit a goverment with enough ability to pull that off.. how come they can't do anything else gooder?? (gooder is a word... it means More Good)

I get ya, and agreed.

The film Abyss was based on what is known as the USO phenomenon as was Close encounters of the third kind was based on the stories of abductions.

It may well be all crap....or maybe something in it

Many people including me are sceptical but I do have an open mind that people do see unexplainable things and I cannot prove they didn't see it any more than they can prove they did...

Who said it was trying to stay out of sight ?
I don't recall writing that

I tell you what winds me UP.. the use of UFO... especially in movie titles..

IF the movie says UFO : they came from outerspace... then they've bloody well identified it as a spaceship... so its NOT U anymore...

I would rather people use SFO a suspicious flying object or suspected...

Or Frisby... or Aircraft... ONLY If its flying and you don't know what it is will i permit UFO...

See if you say the UFO has landed... I will go SPARE thats a ULO see what i mean..

you open this can of worms and I get all ranty!!

UFO is UNIDENTIFIED , FLYING and an OBJECT.... it must meet these three criteria... nothing more nothing less..

I thank you..

Sorry Alien but that is ridiculous.

Area 51 has been a development and testing facility for experimental aircraft and weapons systems since the cold war. The extreme secrecy enveloping the place [because of the cold war] began with the the U2 project and its flight testing and programs that couldn't be conducted at Edwards Air Force Base. All that secrecy simply led to the more imaginative parts of the population to go; "Oh look "Aliens" are kept there! I haven't seen them but surely they "must be", the governments always lying to us!" Alien, the worlds not one big X-Com game, there are not groups of Men in Black running about wiping peoples minds, really theres not.

Those numpties sitting out in the cold at night looking up & over Groom Lake going "Oooh look ... pretty lights! Wow! Our aircraft can't do that, must be aliens, or at least alien tech!" Nonsense! If the same people had gone back to the late 50s and seen the Lockheed SR-71 being developed they would have been doing the whole; "Oooh look ... pretty lights! Spaceship! Wow! Our aircraft can't do that, its too fast ... must be aliens, or at least alien tech!!!" See the pattern?

So yes, if there was evidence of a civilization on Mars or evidence of other intelligent life out there, I really do believe that you and I would be the last people the American gov would want to tell.
And no ... I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories.

You don't subscribe to conspiracy theories? You just did.

Thats extremely flawed thinking Alien, do you think the US is the only space agency out there? Do you think the US is the only government on this planet? More still, do you think that "if" aliens turned up on our planetary doorstep they would go, "Ooooh look Americans! lets go talk to them first! Better still lets come light years and crash a few of our craft on their planet and get a few of us captured, yes ... lets do that!" Its ridiculous nonsense built out of cold war fears echoing through the decades.

I think you're forgetting or maybe not in the know that people were still hypothesizing that there were trees, plants and life possibly living on Mars right up until Mariner 9 got there in 1971. At that point all of the hype of "little green men" died off when Mariner 9 just began photographing Mars regolith. Well, that is until twits like Richard C. Hoagland came along and began pushing the whole Remote Viewing angle with cities and faces on Mars. Guess what? More piffel! That ran and ran until Mars Global Surveyor obtained images and blew the whole thing out of the water.

No, it's money grabbing nonsense pushed along and fed by ignorant minds. I'd suggest you take a look at some real science and see what humans are actually capable of rather than relying on imaginary aliens to fill in the gaps. Lastly, yes it is probable that there is extraterrestrial life of some sort out there but until we have actual, verifiable proof its moot to make the argument that it exists.

Edit: And whilst we are on the alien thing ... ever thought to wonder why all aliens spoken about are humanoid? Look around the planet Earth here for a moment. With all of the millions of different creatures, all different lines of evolution here, theres going to be a group of aliens out there that just so happened to have evolved from apes on their planet too? Ridiculous nonsense! If dinosaurs hadn't have been wiped out by the K/T impact some 65 million years ago, it would be highly doubtful mammals would have gotten this far, let alone got to the evolution of homosapiens. Yet humanoid looking aliens had a free run at it on their planet? They have a K/T event too? Better still, the galaxy is populated by humanoids and Star Trek is right! Can you see how ridiculous this is getting?

Meh! You have me on a rant now! :p

So your kind of on the fence then :D

You have to laugh though.....

Its obvious theres nothing to hide its all here :D

Indeed, of course it's not a city...

Everyone knows that the Martians have built their cities under-ground...
