Modes Going to solo mode

I play in OPEN exclusively... well 95% of the time.

I haven't been ganked or PvP'd since engineers came out and a certain notorious CMDR heated me to hell and back at Farseer. I don't really go to the busy areas or CGs often. I occasionally run into people and have a chat but never found open to be that bad. Used to PvP pre engineers but never found ganking in this game to be terrible. I guess the new crime system may help a lot!

OK, just about had enough of getting ganked every other day in open now. So to the cmdr flying the FDL at Ceos congrats!!!!!!!!! One less cmdr in open, hope you enjoy the dwindling number of open players in game.

Ceos is one of the popular areas to go to abuse silly mission mechanisms and would logically be a place where hostile CMDR would gather.

Open is a waste of time unless you want other people to get on your way when you try to get stuff done.

If you want cooperative interactions, aim for a PvE group like Mobius.

I've had plenty of impromptu cooperative interaction in Open.

Indeed, I probably have more cooperative interactions with strangers than hostile ones, except when I'm going out of my way to look for trouble.

Or they can do what most of us do and not bother. Its not like the sociopaths you encounter in Open offer the kind of lasting player interaction any sane person would long for, let alone actually miss.

How does the typical PvP MO of taking an over engineered Conda, Corvette, FDL etc. and hunting down noobs and shieldless trading ships translate into any kind of behavior/skills to be admired?

Frankly, my reaction to such pond scum is just the opposite. There are no redeeming qualities available in that mode that can not be experienced in any other that would warrant even 10 minutes worth of my free time invested into better coping with A Holes. ;)

The A Holes can have it! I really couldn't care less. A single PG session with trusted friends is worth a dozen mediocre Open sessions with arrogant randoms.

Totally agree.

It's the purpose of internet discussions to make a big deal of everything

No matter how small of a hiccup, it always feels like the world as we know it is going to end.
Once we fix the problem, which we always do, we slip into a shame spiral, suddenly so humiliated by our childish behavior.
It’s like we’ve finally become adults, and then we end up completely pulverizing all of that grown-up street cred we’ve worked so hard to earn.

Ah thats nice...have some much desrved rep fer such an excellent little read ;)

I used to care more about this fer months after my own little educational tour of open...nowadays I just find meself caring less and less...and yet Im playing more lately than Ive played in a long time.

Oh the horror...it appears this game has found the cure fer Peter Pan syndrome [noob]

I feel my age...cheers I needed that on a slow monday in january ^

Open is a friendly place.

If you are unsure, please don't listen, consensus here is not of your concern. If you are new to Elite, ignore threads like this. You ever wanted to play a space game? One, that, ultimately presented it self, ungoverned, beautiful, free?

Elite Dangerous, ultimately, in all consequences, let you free.

You have to learn a lot. Seek out friends, they help your get along. Face consequences. Adopt. Learn.

Open is a friendly place

Try Open in elite Dangerous.

One link is enough

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/223-Modes-of-Elite

Well, i hope you take into account the number of pages per thread.

Thanks for taking the time to post the link!

I wasn't going to bother since the request was too ridiculous to take seriously. I also don't appreciate lazy people putting the onus on me to make up for their own ignorance on a topic. Or to attempt to insinuate that without such a link, the complaints I was referring to did not exist in the numbers they actually do.

Ahh here we are the regular reminder of why I play solo, reading through this thread I wouldnt want to spend my gaming time with half the people posting. But then im not sure if thier egos would fit into the instance.

Its a game dosnt matter what mode you play in, and lets be honest open is just as empty as solo 99% of the time unless your in hubs.

Never understood the whole "epeen on the table" mentality of some players just because they play in one mode over another but then on the flip never got people moaning about being killed whislt in the mode which allows pvp, wanted or otherwise.

To add I dont want to get good, I just dont want to play this game with others hence my choice of solo.

I'm glad you did, but it all depends on where you go and when.

Thargoids sites, when they were first discovered, and any CG at Obsidian Orbital or any other anarchy stations are some lovely locations that come to mind when i need to explain to someone why Open just isn't worth my time.

I repped you, though I am not sure in which one of the halves I am. :D
But I feel the same. People should stop buffing their feathers over which mode they play in and just enjoy the damn game.

Yeah I agree I might have come over a bit strong but tired off the whole mode argument, with that... o7

Sadly I was flying a dolphin, the last ganker was flying FDL so not much I could do.

"Sadly I was flying a Dolphin".

Ummm! That's my main ship for many things and certainly one I'm not worried about flying in open with.

Its super cruise handling is outstanding so very hard to inderdict; fast and agile in normal flight so extremely difficult to die in. I would say a Dolphin vs FDL is fine, it's a catch me if you can ship.

I play white knight bounty hunter a lot of the time so I'm not defending the behavior just the fact you should of been able to give him a run for his money in a Dolphin if not laughing at him in comms for "nice try!".

If you like playing in open then perhaps just work on your evasive maneuvering a little and have a chuckle or two when they can't hit you. Dolphin is a nice ship for it.

Agreed. There are plenty of examples of this.

Also, as I said previously, the position that Open is devoid of players is baseless, and is usually only held by folks who themselves have been killed in Open and are holding a grudge.

Open is definitely not devoid of anything, except me - and it has nothing to do with the people there and everything to do with how badly connectivity behaves there. I used Open back in the early days of the Ancient Ruins mission, when this was the ONLY way it could be completed. Connectivity was dreadful, with countless "Matchmaking Server" errors, or just random server errors, half or more of the people in an instance not being in the same instance, and of course, the bungee-cable station docking fiasco - landed 3 times, was pulled back out into space 3 times, same station.

Certainly not how I want to play. Private groups - have only had the standard issue server errors pretty much everyone sees from Patch Day to the following Friday.
Solo - never had an issue.

I suspect it's too many Aussies, on laptops, in the Outback, using satellite phones plugged into Eucalyptus trees, sending signals via kookaburra net. 10 out of 9 things there are poisonous, makes sense the internet would be too ;-)

I mean, they do call it "The Lucky Country"... lucky if something doesn't bite ya and ya don't die from it ;-)

Your Welcome

Egos play Ego. No matter, what. And what ever suit you, is of course, only of your concern. What matters most, in Open is, people trying to share.

Consequently, you never share in solo.
