Gonna be some moody explorers..

i just dont see the point. My explorer is poorly shielded and has a weak hull, so im running from combat every time.

I am tempted to fill it with reverb cascade lightweight torps though, 2.4 tons of weapons isnt much and that would definitely be a disincentive to would be chasing gankers (chase me and lose your shield gen or let me go)

I explore armed for two reasons:
  1. I just prefer to have the guns. Sometimes I like to drop into a ring and shoot rocks (not mining, just firing some guns "because").
  2. On my very first long distance exploration trip I was some 10k or so ly from the bubble and a harmless NPC pirate in an Eagle just would not stop interdicting me. I escape interdiction and he'd respawn in minutes. I'd submit and then run and he'd respawn. I'd jump to a new system and he'd appear there. Eventually I gave in and shot him down and either through luck, game mechanics, or coincidence he did not respawn again until the next day. Not seen that happen again since, and NPCs don't spawn so far out in the black anymore, but personal tradition definitely dictates that I always explore armed.

It's affecting my ship and It has weapons, so it's probably not the not having weapons that's an issue. And make sure to test that your fire groups persist after relogging, because they don't for me.

I'm out in the black exploring, and I have no weapons, and no limpet controllers.
I only have a DSS installed - and even though after the update my firegroup was all blanked out, i easily re-assigned them, and have been using them just fine. Can even add more firegroups if I wanted - tested it too.

Nice new bug where you cannot map fire groups unless you have a weapon on your ship. But, since you cant map fire groups and all the fire groups have been blanked by the update, weaponless explorers are screwed if they are out in the black as there is now no way to use the surface scanner or honk. (i worked around it by nipping back to the carrier, putting a weapon on, mapping the fire groups then unequipping the weapon.)
All explorers should carry weapons anyway, can't deal with hostile natives otherwise. Or dump fuel with the plasma cannon.

:D S

That's because you are only using one fire group. Try setting up a second fire group, the cursor gets stuck at the top of the menu on B and can't be moved, you then need to log out to main and back in to get it to work properly, it's the swapping between fire groups when setting up that's the issue here.

That's not what OP's post said which was "Nice new bug where you cannot map fire groups unless you have a weapon on your ship. " - which as far as I can tell seems to work for me. It could be broken for other people and/or Horizons too maybe.

I don't know about the scenario you said, i can try later, but i did briefly have a second firegroup earlier and didn't have issues, but i didn't test it, only set it up and switched to it, then removed it.

I don't have weapons on my ship and was able to map fire group A but found I couldn't map fire group B, so this is all related to the fire groups issue.

It's possible it's related to the particular controls players have set up to move around the UI and why some players have issues and some don't, so it's all relevant, any suggestions supplied may work for players having the issue.

I believe it depends on where the selected cell was when you last closed the Fire Groups page.
I mapped my Krait II (5 weapons, 4 fire groups) just fine, then switched to the Vulture (2 guns) and I couldn't do anything
Switched back to the Krait II, move the selected cell to the top of the first fire group and went back to the Vulture and everything was fine.

So you CAN map with no weapons if you left the cursor at the top left, but not if it was bottom right.

Yeah, what happened to me was that i had no weapons or limpets and it just wouldnt allow me to map anything or create a group at all, whatever i tried, until i jumped back to my carrier and installed a gun.

I can map groups without a weapon when I first log into the game each time. However if I press Joy2 which is my secondary weapon on that screen then it locks the fire groups out until I quit and restart.

In Odyssey, I noticed the fire groups cursor when using a controller doesn't respond until you press directions on the dpad a few times, then it starts working fine after that.

My explorers all have at least a rail with plasma slug for tuning my fuel levels for certain jumps, and one pulse laser in case I run into a guardian object in space I need to charge it for it to drop whatever.
My passenger liner has experienced this issue. I only honk out of habit in it since it dedicated to Robigo Mines/ Sirius Atmo runs and occasionally burning station rescues. Buit I did notice the issue because of my habit. I have not bothered to try a work around yet.

This sounds like the same problem you get when you dismiss your ship via the SRV lap-panel and then want to disembark: need to fiddle with the cursor until it gets off the (now hidden) "dismiss" button.
