Discussion Got a question about space radio.

Hi all, first time venturing down here so I'll get straight to the point.

You know ship to ship coms sounds proper awesome with that filter slapped on it right?
Well, I've been looking around for a filter or plugin or even a program/app that can take my music library and play it back with a similar raido distortion.
Doesn't need to interact with the game at all, it just needs to apply a radio like filter over the music for immersion reasons.
I mean how awesome would it be if you could play your own music or podcast without the clarity of todays none-long-distance-space-radio tech?

any info or idea's?

P.S. Sorry if I've gone and put this in the wrong place, I figure the guys who like to tinker with stuff would know something.

Cool idea.

For a start off, if you have a look in your (windows) music player it should have EQ setting? Fiddling with that might get you a sound more like "ambient music in cockpit" (rather than pure mp3) emulating an in-cockpit music player.

For "receiveing mp3 collection by subspace radio" (the communications effect), trickier. One instant idea might be to listen to some Air Traffic Control in the background try http://www.liveatc.net/ which will add some ambient sounds (but won't distort your mp3's as such). For adding distortion, you could certainly add to individual tracks with Audacity, but that would probably mean remastering one track at a time. Doing it on the fly (coolest possible option) might mean finding a specialist music player, with extreme EQ settings, or buiding a filter yourself .. ummmm ...

As I feared. I've been looking for a week or two now and all I can really find is tutorials on how to ad the radio effect to songs people are making. I'll try changing the EQ's, I've got a creative soundblaster on-board audio chip but that will probably only change everything. I try with WMP, Itune and some other software.
Editing them is a possibility but doing so to thousands of mp3's and mixes from youtube would be a nightmare. Add in I have less than 0 experience with sound editing, unless you count muting bits for vlogs.

I figured WinAmp or something of the sort would have some kind of filter as I believed that was really modular, no luck though. Thanks for the reply. I shall keep looking.

Found a nice empty channel from that liveatc.net website, gave WMP a proper tinny baseless sound and it's pretty good. The radio pops every now and then and windows10 does that thing where it lowers certain sounds to try and stop stuff from being overly loud which is usually annoying but actually works quite nicely. Now, if only we could get some sort of custom radio station in-game like you can do with GTA5

FYI, if you do this, have a spare pair of undies. About half hour after I got all set up, music on low with a tinny EQ, static ATC stream playing over that. Someone on the radio said something and oh my blue cheese I jumped so hard the cup of tea I have next to my flightstick is now embedded in the wall across the room.
