Mods: please feel free to relocate this thread to the most suitable topic area
TL;DR: Please post your Graphics card specs (GPU & Memory), gaming resolution and quality setting, along with the frames per second achieved in both stations and open space, ideally at one of the presets (high, medium, low). I'll update the tables with all these figures with pricing; perfect information for wannabe upgraders. CTRL+F everyone!
With Beta 1 there's been an influx of new player-testers - myself included - who are providing great data and plenty of bugs for Frontier to analyse and fix, as well as new ideas on improving the excellent playability already in ED.
Some of our fellow gamers with lower end rigs wanting better graphics need help upgrading around their budgets, as well as downright misleading naming of GPUs for non-techies. So my aim is to blast them with all the GPU price/performance information they need in one place.
To that end I need information from us all to fill in the considerable blanks in the tables. We've all play-testing ED on different rigs so a quick check will help others out; please check in both stations and open space. CTRL+F to display your FPS in game to those who don't already know.
The graphics cards are categorised by target resolution - 720P, 900P, 1080P - and will be ordered by FPS. Approximate pricing we'll grab from eBay auctions where applicable.
I've limited the GPU selection to the past 6 generations of Nvidia & AMD/ATI, there's no point going further back.
For those of us who are fortunate and have excellent rigs - GPUs more powerful than those listed, SLI/XFire setups etc - please help out if you've got an older card lying around and give it a quick FPS test for us.
MUCHO THANKS in advance to all who offer their help
Post format examples:
Nvidia GeForce GTX 570, 1.25GB
1080P @ High
40 FPS Station
60 FPS Open Space
£60/$99
Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 256bit, 1GB
1080P @ Low
30 FPS Station
43 FPS Open Space
1080P @ Medium
28 FPS Station
40 FPS Open Space
1080P @ High
24 FPS Station
37 FPS Open Space
£40/$66
Note: if this thread proves useful I'll likely do another based on the beefier hardware needed for the Oculus Rift too (DK1, DK2, CV1).
Key for upcoming tables:
30/45 = 30 FPS in Station / 45 FPS in Open Space
OK = Overkill
NP = Not Playable
