Griefers are killing this game............

Well, I for one would like to apologise if I have offended anyone's sensitivities. I am 60 and perhaps have a slightly odd view about "decent behaviour" that goes with my age and the fact that I have not been raised on FPS games of the modern genre where senseless violence and gore is the main aim of participation. So, I am sorry if I offend anyone (not my intent), yes, it is only a game (I am well aware of this fact) but senseless killing is to me just that and is without point or purpose. I am "not the bad-guy" here, I am just saying that I was surprised to have the experience that I did where there was no profit or benefit to the perpetrators, other than the pleasure in causing someone else a loss of some kind.

Now that I understand that "normal rules and etiquette" are NOT to be expected or applied I shall modify my own behaviour accordingly.

Does that sound fair?
Don't change a thing. Etiquette and manners are important. Being nice and liking people, and not being a psycho - virtually, in an internet forum or in street - is better still.

I agree. Let them have their sad existence, we'll play the game the right way and for me that means playing in MOBIUS with like minded commanders.

It might be. You just said it yourself - you don't know WHY the OP was targeted. Could be because of some small-minded little jerk who gets a kick out of annoying other players, which is griefing in my book. The whole thing about "repeated" just makes it clearer.

I hate to say random people just going around and killing random people just to be annoying isn't griefing, that is just normal play. I can go on any other MMO with PvP and do the exact same thing, murder random people just to be annoying and for "shiggles".

It would be griefing if I followed you around and kept killing you over and over, making it so you can't play the game. Or another good form of griefing which I ran into (there is a thread about it but not by me, i was just there when it happened). But a cmdr was ramming ships in a station and killing them, while not getting any wanted level, or fines for it.

Though I will agree they do need to make the punishment fit the crime. Why would I pay a 50mil bounty when i can just go get killed and pay 15mil and be clean and clear. Any other MMO I have played that didn't reward or promote pvp to the point you get rewarded for it, the crime fit the punishment. But in saying that I don't want pirating to completely leave the game, so they have to find a way, to balance it.

What is the difference - from the "griefed" player's perspective - to be killed over and over by one player, or by ten different players? Either way means they are unable to play the game. The fact that the PvP dictionary defines it differently doesn't lessen the negativity of the experience. Arguing over semantics is deflecting from the issue: Etiquette and sportsmanship.

They are not even paying 15 Mil - even high end Pythons only have around a 5-6 Mil re-buy. A fully A kitted Vulture is only 1 mil to re-buy.

All reward + low risk = imbalance.

"Hey, if you don't mind, i'm going to stab you if you don't hand me over your credit card and your pin code, it's all right, right? I'm not made for a job, so i have to resort to stab people for money, no hard feelings"

I'm really loosing my faith in humanity if these guys here are supposed to be our generation.

HAHAHA
Did you read the OP?
He didn't have ANY cargo. Got it?
That's the argument. Killing for the sake of it. BULLY BOY TACTICS 4 v 1
it doesnt matter weather he had cargo or no if a player decides he want to destory another its fair game he doesnt need any reason to attack anyone the fact you cant get it through your head speaks volumes its not griefing ganking or hackiing or anything other than legitimate game play

Legitimate game play is not the same as fair game play.

It's the complete lack of empathy on the forum that disturbs more than any action you could take in a computer game.

If you can't see the effect your actions have on others, that's...?

and who said you have to get a positive experience? its supposed to be mirroring a real enviroment and it does in the real world people get killed for nothing no reason whatso ever and others die for a reason whatever it maybe be but the fact that OP is crying about getting killed in a open play pvp enviroment speak voulmes and there a few posters on here that need to leave the game because clearly its not for them except in solo play but i would think then they would try to say a NPC that kills them is bulling and greifing even the NPC fly and attack in wings are they griefing ? they also ram you

It's worse than that I'm afraid. They can totally see the effect it is having because it is the effect that they get their jollies from.

Yeah, because that type of violent attack in a real environment just gets you an inconsequential fine that you can easily pay off with pocket change.

and who said you have to get a positive experience?

The majority of people pay money for a game in order to fun. The majority of people do not have fun from negative experiences. Most people pay money for a game to have a generally positive experience.

so fun has to be winning all the time you cant ever have fun while losing? im afraid your symptomatic of the ME ME ME lazy modern gamer the type that resets to a previous save game when things go wrong thanks for showing what you are

I know. Look at the guys in the OP, the poor chap didn't even have cargo, nor was any attempt made to ask for cargo. They weren't pirates. Think you are on the wrong thread mate.
"Pirate and Douchebags." I'm sorry, am I seeing things or are you demeaning pirates then tried to change the subject on me?

I wont disagree it's can be frustrating some days to play this game, because one right after another i have someone trying to kill me while i run trade (mostly npcs), but I'm not arguing semantics. There is a big difference from being killed once or twice by some random jerk who has no sportsmanship vs griefing which is when you are targeted specifically because your name is stevelaw and they continue to follow and target you because of who you are. And random players aren't the only ones that will just random interdict you and attack for no reason other than to kill, NPC's do it all the time and I don't see anyone complaining about them "griefing".

I was just using the most expensive ship as an example really, anaconda is 7mil base to replace. But yeah those would net you a much better return if you were using it for exploitation.

Lazy modern gamer? No, thirty something father of two with full time job and a lot of foreign travel. Plus, are you kidding me? Its taken me 4 months to get my Asp!

I didn't say that at all. Sorry.

And I'm far from a "modern gamer". I've been playing video games for as long as there has been videos games.

You're right, you said that only you can have fun because only you paid money, right? And if you're not having fun, everyone else must be punished in order for you to have fun, right?

You see, there's no freebies in here (unless someone was kind enough and gifted them the game), everyone paid the game, and everyone is entitled to have fun, and if killing, on a pvp game is fun for them, they are having what they paid for: fun

the ineffectual security system is well known this isnt what the arguements about its about what the OP described as griefing and others as ganking which it never is or was in this game
