Griefers are killing this game............

Well, no. Real life time is real life time. When I have maybe 3-5 hours a week to play the game, I don't want to be forced to do things I don't enjoy for hours by other players.

If you could just explain to me who is forcing you to play in open mode (where PvP can happen and is allowed) then maybe I could help you.

Also, why is your real life time more important than my immersion in a dangerous galaxy? Why should open mode change when FD have already provided alternative options for your need of a reduced game experience?

The obvious fix would be to have the bounty come out of the CMDRs pocket as well if he died in a Sidewinder when he had a perfectly functional Anaconda or a pricey ship(5M+). If you have a significant bounty you've accrued while in a Python, Anaconda or any of the higher tier ships but die in a lower tier ship(By comparison) you get hit with paying off your bounty as well as the other player getting the bounty(Saves legitimate bounty kills). It should cut down on people abusing the system.

griefing is: REPEATEDLY killing a DEFENSLESS oponent over and over again while he cant react. (aka "Spawn Killing") Spawn Killing in Elite is not even possible.

nethertheless i think the INFICTION response of the game to murder, should me much harsher.

That's your definition. The "official" definition of griefing leaves a lot more open for interpretation though:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Griefing

Whatever definition of griefing you use is superfluous. Because when it all boils down, if a player FEELS that they have been griefed then they are going to feel exactly the same WHATEVER artificial definition you use. Just by say 'oh that's not griefing because it doesn't fit x, y, z, criteria' is pointless if the victim feels the same anyway.

DayZ is still full of combat logging, even after they implemented 30 second timers (DayZ Mod). I haven't played standalone for a while bt last time I played that there was still folk pulling the plug.

I'm not sure why it's relevant what the player feels. If they don't like open mode they have 2 other modes to choose from or not play the game.

Are you perhaps thinking that ED will die because it is too niche? I'm afraid that ship has sailed, open mode is what it is and FD have been very clear that random PvP is allowed. It's up to each individual player to deal with their feelings and adjust how they play the game accordingly.

Because in movies you know for sure the heroes will win, so having evil and terrible enemies is cool. In ED you don't know if the hero, namely you yourself, will survive, so having evil enemies is not cool. It is that simple, really.

You obviously haven't watched Blakes 7 and I would hardly say that the Cylons or the Humans "won" in BSG either... but each to their own I guess

Even very young kids learn that if you want people to play with you then you have to play nicely or they'll just go and play elsewhere and you'll have no friends. Why do some people seemingly forget that very early life lesson when they are behind a monitor? Or have some people grown up with less real life interaction and therefore never learned it?

Kids are also taught to learn the rules of a game, play within the rules, and not be a bad loser when they lose a game within said rules.

Yes but when you invent a new game from scratch you have to develop the rules for a while until the game makes sense.

You just described a Sociopath. Good Job.

Well imagine you are playing in a public sandbox, building your awesome sandcastle (also playing siege)with your friends. Then 4 teenagers come stomp on your sandcastle, hit you in the head with your shovel. Then they tell you you have to like it, because they also payed the entry-fee and the grounds keeper let them in.

You would be the first to call for momy i think.

Taking the emotion out of the equation is not the same thing as not being capable of emotion.

If not... then perhaps someone that gets so emotional over a computer game may have "Borderline (Emotionally Unstable) Personality Disorder"?

I stress that I am on the fence here and I am not sure what constitutes griefing but seeing as some have called into question what the definition on griefing is, what is your definition of PvP? Is it 'anything goes so try not to feel butt hurt, just take the meds' or is it multiple ships that all have a fighting chance of winning or at least surviving the encounter?

I suppose it depends on how your mind works, I have decided not to press home attacks on Sidewinders and Eagles with low bounties unless they are really bugging me but that's just me.

On the other hand some people get almost militant about people who move from solo to group to open play and so on when in truth it is none of their business how people play. Or is it? Because if it is and they are right then OP has got a point hasn't he?

Opinions are like bum holes.

That's analogy doesn't work, because many real rules were broken. The teenagers and possibly the grounds keeper would all be arrested. What rules are broken when someone gets randomly killed in ED?

it has nothing to do with emotions

Dictionary definition of Sociopath:
"noun, Psychiatry.
1.a person with a psychopathic personality whose behavior is antisocial, often criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or socialconscience."

and i meant it regarding the relevant players and all your(and many others) posts in this thread where you(not "you" specifically) fail to recognize that you are a part of a community.
Keep defending your own viewpoint/Freedom of choice, yet fail to recognize that others have one too.

So it is okay to play in any mode you like yes? It is okay to combat log yes? It is okay to do whatever the deuce you like and not have anybody complain about it?

I don't thank that is going to happen.

You might even be one of the first to complain about some of these shenenigans I suspect.

well then yours doesnt work either. you imply that no rules were broken in the game because in the game things like ramming and ganking noobs when the attacker is in a much more powerful ship are possible. well it is possible that teenagers would come and beat up a younger kid, the rules of physics are not being broken there.

The only way the OP would have a point is if a rule was broken. No rule was broken. That's not opinion.

Peoples feelings, emotions, real time value and opinions don't really matter, same as in any other game with defined rules.

And what's worse the OP said he would break the rules by combat logging the next time, which I think is an act that could be considered griefing.

My definition of PvP is no different from the actual definition. It is simply player/s pitting themselves against other player/s within the rules defined for the game. I honestly don't understand why anyone would attempt to introduce their own set of personal rules into the situation and then get upset afterwards when they are ignored.

Common sense?

why do you suppose is illegal to attack and beat a child?
