Griefers make open impossible, and how easy the solution is.

...Been playing Elite Dangerous the launch of PS4.
The only time I have been griefed as in Pallaeni when flying my Type9 in a heavily instances DW2 departure point.
Someone tried hatchbreaker limpets on me. I lost a tonne or two before jumping back into supercruise.

The rest of the time, I have been lucky to only ever encounter a positive, happy go lucky bunch of Commanders out in the black.

If PC griefers are too much for you. Come over to the Sony Side. We have everything, except too many griefers (and Cobra MkIVs)
That's not griefing. XD

It feels like I'm playing a different game.

or everybody has blocked you.

by that same logic, nobody is a bad person. They just want to do things the way they want to.

that's actually true. :) "bad" will be always subjective and logic will always have a hard time with it. rational thinking is required to really make these emotions useful.

The only I time I really understand this kind of thing is with CGs. I get that someone may want to haul tonnes of stuff in their T9 and do it with some other like minded Cmdrs in their haulage ships, meet some peeps and get some new friends but that there's likely to always be one heavily PvP armed and armoured ship. In that case you take the risk (it's great RP) or, yeah pretty much head to Solo/PG.
The rest of the time I'm amazed so many other Cmdrs seem to suffer from constant harassment. Deciat and Shinrata you'll likely always find someone looking to blow you up but I whiz around Engineering (in completely unready ships) in the other systems and give a cheery o7 to the Cutter/'Vette/FdL I see because they're always just doing the same things. If I see anyone anywhere else I'm pleased to know I'm not alone, so much so I sometimes have to hit Escape just to make sure I'm actually in Open.

I think twice I've seen someone harassing an Engineers base outside of Deciat - and then pretty much everyone picked a system they could hyper jump to immediately they left the 2km zone.

Maybe the entire world is asleep when I play?

A meaningful conversation around C&P, particularly in my view of system security levels, with FDev and players would be great as it seems hugely lacking and misdirected. However, Open is what it is, has been laid out by FDev as such for ages - make a choice and accept the consequences...or flit between the modes, but still accept the consequences.

Maybe a better way is that after a certain amount of kills your instances are rotated? So if you are being repeatedly ultraspanked, the game will temporarily de instance you and your attacker (sort of like a time limited block) to give you time to get away.

Obviously this would not count for Powerplay, where its your job to flay the skin of your enemies over and over, in glorious blood soaked battle.

Just build your ship to survive.
Most times it works, sometimes you'll explode, but it adds a great lot of thrill.
(or just use other modes)

But we all know how this thread will end.

Ofc you're right, but let me point out that at any given time there is at least 399 999 999 995 totally ganker free systems in the galaxy where even the crappiest paperplanes will have about 99.999% chance of survival...

Please don't wish that, instancing is already an utter bugfest.

Just chiming in to say that griefing is not against the rules, but is super fracking annoying.

recently I did a soft reset of my account. Went to the CG system and did some small game bounty hunting for a little fun (imagine that).

I popped a few ships and when I was leaving the nav beacon a cutter and corvette jumped in, and proceeded to get me down to 30% hull before I high waked. Then I jump back in the system, but the cutter nabbed me before I could get to Davies high, and finished the job.

so -4mil just for existing. My issue with griefing is the same issueI have with Call of Duty. I’m not trying to go balls to the wall every time I play. But the guys in the Uber-engineered murder boats (that they probablycopied the build from a YouTube vid) just make it frustrating.

it’s not all that thrilling, it’s just senseless. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be allowed, it’s just annoying

my 5c:

  • fix combat logging
  • make instancing at least workable
  • let players deal with it

simple, definitive, huge win in emergent gameplay. points 1&2 will imply some money and some clever heads being scratched for a while, but that's what i would expect from a professional game dev. if this industry weren't a joke aimed primarily at teenage segments, that is.

eh, um, add basic cheat protection to the list, forgot about that! 😅

While I rarely play in open, every once and a while its is interesting to do so. While not invincible, my ship is very hard to take down. I'll get interdicted by a small wing or a single player and they dont make any demands, they will just start firing. I think that is cute and adorable that they think they could take me down. I politely respond to them with "no thank you, good luck" and warp out of there. Then I get the salt in the form of profanity and other useless dribble. Not going to waste time with morons lol, so I usually end up blocking them.

Now players that actually engage me, by Roleplaying or such, I am more apt go along. Was interdicted not to long ago, the player made a demand of 4 tons of cargo and I happily obliged. I warped out and contacted that player telling him to feel free to Pirate me anytime, as that was enjoyable experience for both of us.

Bottom line is, play in solo or private so you can get up to cutter/Corvette status, gear that bad boy up and fear pretty much nothing ever again lol. Clowns are gonna be clowns you just have to prepare for it. chaff, evasive maneuvers, obscene shields, high wake and you're all set!
