Griefers make open impossible, and how easy the solution is.

A newbie versus pro player? Let me think... Nothing?!

I sometimes watch people on YT bragging about their engineered ships shooting down unengineered newbies with 6 km ranged penetrating railguns... I know game allows it, no problem with that. But don't tell me please I have to assess my ship's build or work my tactic against pro players who always hit with 99% accuracy, turning off engines in few shots. I have no chance - period. Even if I manage to escape their first attempt they will follow me for sport and kill like an animal just for score. Or because they record it for the audience. That's the Open I know and I trully hate it.

I can play on Moebius. For Solo I've no patience, that feeling of being alone in entire galaxy is no fun. Until this game is fully PvE with PvP being only for the marked players (like in SWTOR for example,) I will never step into Open again.
Probably thousands of others has similar thoughts and probably nothing will change that.

Thx for the attention 🤠 .

Open is not that bad really. It sounds like you got hit by someone far beyond your skills as it stands.
You can get better though, don't give up on open, it is cool winging up and (in my case) blowing up aliens.

And I'm wondering if you and I are even playing the same game? I only play in Open and have had exactly one random death in the 10 months or so I've been playing. Here's the trick though, I'm in Australia. I regularly play in the early AM hours server time and as a result, rarely see another human. Hell, my housemate and I have to pray to DBOBE in order to instance together. Sacrificing a Sidewinder seemed to help.

For the people keeping count (I'm sure someone has a list) I play in open on two accounts I have died waaaaay more times through stupidity or inattention than from other players. I have mostly positive interactions with other players, either that or they ignore my friendly o7 I'm sorry you get killed whilst still logging in, on the main menu, but the 'whole game' is not like that in my experience, as always YMMV

Honestly they should just do what Warcraft did awhile back. Make PvP a toggle. Kind of like how you can toggle if crimes against you get reported. And set it to where you can only turn it on or off at a station.

Don't want to deal with PvP? Turn it off. Wanna do some PvP? Turn it on. Problem solved. That would dramatically increase the player count in Open I bet and as a result we would see alot more player interaction.

Solo players wouldn't have to worry about getting ganked if they don't want to and Open players can stop complaining that there aren't many players in Open. Everyone wins.

I think I've blocked more solo players lately than I have griefers. Holy cow there are some nasty chatters in Borann! I'd skip system chat altogether, but as a legitimate pirate, I must confess I enjoy when people spread the tale of Duck Dread the Pirate far and wide, LOL.

FWIW, I've not killed a single player since taking up my life of piracy!

Yes. A magical invincibility button is the answer. Good job.

As a canonn-member Adder-flying carebear in 'griefer-infested' Carcosa in Open: no. Best of luck to everyone, but I dont want people in my game that only show up when there is a magical godmode button for them.

I don't think you guys are understanding how it works. In Warcraft when you have it toggled you cannot interact with other people. Which means there is no God mode as you put it. For example if I had it toggled to off I would not be able to shoot at you, do damage to you, or anything. NPCs would still be able to attack me and destroy me, but players would not.

And it solves the problem with open that a lot of solo players have with griefing and trolling. And it also solve the problem that a lot of open players have with there not being enough players to interact with. so if they did implement this kind of system that means that solo players who don't want to get ganked don't have to worry about it so they could still play in open and that would also mean that open players have more people to interact with.

It would solve alot of problems. Really the only people I could see having a problem with this system are the griefers who wouldn't be able to wantonly interdict and destroy anyone and everyone that they want. which is the problem with open as it stands right now and why so many people stick to Solo in the first place.

I know how it works. I dont want it. If you dont want to 'interact with other people', stay in Solo or PG. Yes, not having meat at a BBQ would solve a lot of problems for vegans. And no, not every vegan has an issue with other people eating meat. But if you are one who has an issue with it, just dont show up at the BBQ, ok? I dont want to interact with people in Open who need to be guaranteed invulnerability. People grinding 200m an hour in Borann but paranoid about paying a few credits for insurance? Get out of here man.

The kind of person who won't play in open unless the qualities that make it "open" are annihilated isn't the kind of person who should be there in the first place.

That's the thing though I do want to interact with other players and I have a feeling that a lot of other solo players do to. I would love to form up squadrons and do wing missions. Or go exploring. Or even just kick back and do some wing trade missions while we back and forth about random topics. Open itself is not the problem.

The problem is the griefing and trolling that comes along with it. That's the problem for most solo players.

That problem exists solely in your head. I've been flying exclusively in Open for thousands upon thousands of hours in Open and mostly in small ships; its a non-issue. Go have fun, or not. Just stop trying to change the game to deal with your irrational anxiety.

Honestly though this just confirms my suspicions that I have had all along when it comes to people who talked about not having enough people in open. It's not about having more people in open to interact with and play with at all. Its about having more targets to gank and troll.

Oh more players in open? That's amazing yes put it in the game immediately.

Oh wait I can't gank them and troll them? Nevermind terrible idea. Git guud.

Not sure why I expected anything different lol

No one here is saying that except in your imagination. Though the imaginary versions of us are easier to argue against, I suppose.

I never ganked anyone. I just don't want people in Open who don't like the concept of Open. Don't like Open? Great, do something else.
