Griefers make open impossible, and how easy the solution is.

After reading the responses in the last few pages I am starting to see why so many people dislike PvPers. I had always thought it was due to the griefing and the ganking, but after actually talking to some of you and listening to you I can see there is quite a bit more to it than that.
It does need to be considered that the number of times these threads pop up about being constantly ganked, open is full of gankers etc. and here is a solution to it when it just isn't needed. Like you, I'm on PS4 and I do have to ask where all these gankers are as whenever I'm in the bubble all I see is a swathe of empty systems aside from the occasional player in a multipurpose Krait. Obviously they're there in Shin Dez and Deciat, but we all know this and act accordingly.

There's a lot of players who would be quite unhappy at creating a PvP shield purely down to this taking up devs time and, let's face it, the number of bugs it would introduce.

If people are more abrasive than they would normally be, it's because the same game breaking suggestions keep being requested over and over again for a minor and preventable inconvenience. It just isn't worth the time of putting in these 'stop the gankers' ideas in the game at the expense of having the devs work on something like atmospheric planets or other potential new content.

The problem is the griefing and trolling that comes along with it. That's the problem for most solo players.
And the solution is BLOCKING. You can have your Open cake and eat it too! Believe me, I've tasted of the sweet fruit of the block, and it is good :D

(PSA - I recently reset my block list, which I do on occasion, letting all but the two worst griefers "out of jail")

"who don't like mine the concept of Open"

Here, fixed that for You.

As for pvp switch - it will interfere with pirating, unfortunately. Sill i think better than open & solo. More people visible.

No, FD's concept of open. You know, where they literally used the term 'griefconda' and said to them that was part of Open. Like everyone else I have my own personal idea what the ideal ED would be. But I accept that FD is designing it, not me, and I select from the options given to me the one I appreciate the most. Do I enjoy the concept of a wing of murderhobos attacking my Adder at every point? Not very much, no.

But let me tell you something else: my current way of playing is to ferry passengers and data around in my Adder, and when I make a jump I first scan the nav beacon so I can make a detour for any high-grade USS (or sometimes distress beacons, I always carry fuel limpets too). Yesterday when I jumped into a nav beacon again I noticed a master-ranked cmdr in a conda. He seemed to be occupying himself with squashing wanted NPCs without interest in anything else, so I started scooping the debris with a collector limpet while keeping a close eye on him. At some point he turned and pointed his ship (and weapons) on my poor little ship. We just floated there for a few seconds, me with my hands on the boost and chaff button, all energy diverted to my 100MJ 'shield'. Then he opens comms:

"o7 cmdr"

And with that he turned around and resumed his pirate-killing tour. This was a pretty tense moment, and it was only tense because he could open fire on my ship. He decided not do so. In Mobius it would have been boring. Worse, I could scoop the mats from the kills he made and he couldn't stop me no matter what. I could bring a small 1c Beam Laser and steal his kills and bounties by having the last registered hit, and there would be nothing he could do about it. The possibility of PvP prevents me from trolling people completely impervious to anything.

Again, to each his own. But to me, when I see the two scenarios above, I'd much prefer Open. And maybe sometimes it goes a bit differently. And maybe some of those times I might make a mistake or two. Then I just pay the insurance, maybe reflect and learn from my mistakes and carry on. Slightly poorer, somewhat humbled but still with my bum firmly in the old but comfortable chair of my trusty Adder.

Yes, later I added that line (that I'm not against the shooting) when I realised that I was misunderstood. But now I realise that some of you armchair griefers and gankers just want to misunderstand me, so there's not much point of trying again. Thanks for making this point crystal clear.
Don't play the victim, you're not being misunderstood, you're the one doing the misunderstanding, repeatedly. If you hadn't gone on the offensive, I wouldn't have pointed out how hypocritical it was, in kind.
The major issue really is that people are disagreeing with you, isnt it?

Does this work on console?

The point of the thread is to talk about potential solutions to the problem of gankers/griefers in open. I shared an idea I had. You don't like it? That's fine. Everyone has their own opinions.

But you really need to stop being so hostile anyone talks about disliking gankers and griefers.
One mans hostility is another’s friendly banter

Roleplaying being a crappy pilot in a crappy ship is pretty much the way to go for me.
You can be a crappy(amazing) darth Vader Knock off.

Umm.... That's a good question. I think on PS4 I still instanced with griefers that I had blocked, but that was a long time ago. You can try it and see! I'll often use a scout ship to "probe" places like Deciat, something cheap like a Sidewinder or Eagle. Any ganker who mercilessly destroys a Sidewinder is "sent to jail". In your case, block them, log out and back in (to make sure block filter kicks in) and see if they instance with you or not. All I can say is block has worked wonders for me on PC.

Work for a day in the fields of wild land firefighting, the military, or construction (all of which are my background) and you’ll indeed see that it is.
Ah so it's okay to break forum rules and insult other members because that's what YOU do with your friends and coworkers.

Gotcha. Makes perfect sense.

I usually play solo, but every now and then I'll go online to find some CMDRs, and have some interaction. Every single time I did however, I have been interdicted and killed within 10 minutes of launching out of the station. You spawn, you try to fly somewhere and someone interdicts you and kills you without any thought or explanation. That's my complete experience with open. I'm fine with piracy and bounty hunting and all. But these people that just attack for no reason at all makes it that me, and a lot of people like me, don't want to play in open at all. Today I just wanted to screw around with some CMDRs at the community event. Never mind, cause they're waiting to kill you.

I have never, in a year of playing Elite, been in open and not been randomly killed by a griefer. Imagine that. Every time I played in open, a griefer has killed me (and no I have no open bounties). And the saddest thing is, I'm not even exaggerating. Open is completely useless. It has no upsides at all. Doesn't matter what you do, you risk everything on your run by playing in open. Whether you're exploring, mining, trading, bounty hunting or even pirating. All your hard work is ruined by some half-baked gently caresstard in a Challenger.
Yeah nothing says "friendly banter" quite like condescension and insults.

The OP set the tone. Saying something so absurd & insulting, that any amount of experience in Open tells you is pure nonsense fabricated to push an agenda, is always going to lead to a lot of ridicule.

Which posts are you referring to? what forum rules were broken?

Looks like I've hit a sore point... 🤣
nope, just not letting you claim moral highground by claiming victim status after you had no justification in insulting someone else.
After trolling, whats your next ploy? Perhaps try a reasoned argument: It should go better for you.

Blaming people to me is just projecting your own failings onto someone else, especially since you know full well these people exist and depending where you go how likely you are to run into them. You have full control over where you go (to avoid problem areas), how your ship is built, and how it is flown. Unless you know other players assume everyone is out to get you, and plan for that.

I said your ship build was weak sauce I didn’t insult your mother
Try being told that your playstyle is akin to sexual assault and that you as a human being are morally and socially deficient based on the way you play a space shooty game sometime.
I know explorers are a bit....odd, but thats unfair I feel.
How do you know my mother isn't a morally & socially deficient weak sauce explorer. How Dare You All !

I blame everyone hiding in solo for depriving me of pirating opportunities :p
I also blame the gankers for pushing these people into solo. 🤷

(And I blame you for making Power Play dumb! :p :p :p )
