Grind requirements are insane

The game should be offering the first upgrade at only the cost of natural gameplay. That should be the hook to go and explore more about what you need to do to level up further. You should naturally progress into lv2 weapons if you are just enjoying the missions & frontline solution stuff, but that doesn't happen. Even if you collect quite a bit of stuff at crash sites and settlements you need a very large range of upgrade mats and to specifically know what to find. The first one should be something you stumble upon shortly after having some fun and warming up.

The climb to that first upgrade is so steep and doesn't open up upgrades to the player in a natural way.

Agreed. Material grind is something that will not go away unfortunately, but i think it should be done in a smarter way.

For example it should be activity oriented.

Combat activites should include combat oriented drops. From corpses for example. They would provide you with all the materials you need to upgrade weapons and the combat suit.

Same could apply to exploration. You would get materials for exploring as a reward and it would provide more than enough materials to upgrade the suit.

This would end the irrational need of clothing Change in order to loot every closet for materials. And would give favourite activites a purpose.

Just my 2 cents.

Just to be clear:

Did you focus on mission rewards or looting the settlements? I have mainly been looting settlement and this does not seem to help. In my REP system I am able to almost double any mission rewards offered by the NPCs in the concourse. Is this the way?
I looted only PWR room and I focused mainly on mission rewards.

I'm not good at FPS, so I don't go into settlement missions.
So, how shall a non-FPS player get enough mats for at least 2 suits (Artemis, Maverick) in a reasonable time?
So you don't go into settlement missions because your not good at FPS. But you need upgraded suits because...?

why would you start with gr1 when you can easily score gr3 stuff at vendors? Just sayin
Well, that's a grind in itself. So far, I could only obtain a G2 Maverick suite at the vendor.
I wonder how many stations you have to check before you find an improved suite or weapon.

It's great that the community is sharing locations.

you don't understand because:

a) you don't have a life and thinking that wasting 12 hours in front of a monitor is a nice things;

b) you used a relog or a bug exploit.
Lol. I work full time (remote btw) and have no problems at all. I recommend you to play game, not forums. If you don't like the idea of grinding - go play something else since this game is not for you (maybe New Pokemon Snap will suit better).

Or another idea:

Add something like Material Exchange Vouchers.

For example, you do a on foot combat mission, kill scavengers that are worth 100k of money, and in the bounty office you can choose materials as a reward instead of cash.

Same could apply to exploration. You scanned a ton of plants, but dont want money, but materials.

Or actually make materials buyable for money at the bartender? Not every material everywhere (I hate ShinDez for that :)) but why not?

I totally agree, if it would be up to me, i would add the option of buying stuff for cash simply. Because why should I be forced to do activities, that I would not normally do, to get materials for activities, that I want to do?

But I try to be realistic. I know that the material grind process will not go away, so at least it could be less painful, and should endorse the activity you prefer doing.

"I don't wanna play the game, give me materials". What next? Is it fully engineered ship because "I don't want to farm mats"?

To be honest I found that grindy also but it fits with my gameplay and is just work you do next to upping your ranks and other affiliations. It is not so isolated from the rest of the game as legs seem to be.

Remind me why we still have no traders for items and data?
Oh yeah, right, I totally forgot, it's too early to ask for changes cuz it's still alpha. Or not?

I see the "upgrades" part of suit engineering as the equivalent of "A-rating" your suit. In ships this is done with credits. I know you can sometimes find a G2-G3 suit, but I feel like these should be just credit purchase or credit upgradeable.

As for "mods", most of them are just boring, or simply stat sticks. "Increase melee damage, movement speed, extra ammo". I know with ships we had engineering mods that were similar, but we at least had experimentals to spice things up.

The only borderline "interesting" mods are maybe stowed reloading, or... no wait, that's probably the only one.

Night Vision on suits, maybe. But even then I feel like it should be standard, like on ships and SRVs.

I don't feel any desire to get any of these upgrades.

Boring effects and a daunting scavenger hunt for a billion different thingumajigs that attempts to hinder progress at every step. RNG drops, very limited storage capacity in suits designed for back and forth to a ship, and a global cap on storage that was already fixed in Horizons engineering...

I played lineage 2 around 15 years ago and i can tell you that the grind in elite is rookie level compared to what was in L2, but it was a time when i did not have a wife and Kids. So dont lecture me about getting free stuff, because now i grind money to pay for the house loan.

I know the grind in elite will not go away, but that does not mean, it cant be done in a more sensible way that actually endorses the activity you prefer doing. Thats all i want. I never got anything for free in my life, and although its just game, a sense of reasonble accomplishment is also important.
