Guardian grind questions

So last night I dipped my toe into the guardian grind, making the usual errors of judgement... 🙄

Was at one place to start the process and got it in my head that I needed an ancient key from the beacons, realizing in route that it was just for the ship blue print... What do you use ship blue prints for?

So anyway, after getting receiving my key, I got a notice that a Guardian ruin was nearby I flew there and began the adventure! 🥴

I had multiple issues with disappearing components if I ran over them without targeting or having my scoop down. Pylons not releasing components. Got very tired of driving the overly twitchy SRV. Used to love driving the SRV, not anymore.

After receiving my ship blue print, I figured that I would have another go around and get some other blue print. That didn't go so well... I decided that instead of clearing the instance I would relog. Talk about buggy, while the power up went well but the alter wouldn't take my ancient key and expose the orb. I was using one from my hold from the last go around so I decided to source a fresh one. None of the pylons would eject thier prizes now matter how long or where I shot them. Out of frustration I disembarked and shot one with my gun and it dropped one. I ran by another that I tried to do before and now it gave it up using the SRV... 🙄

The alter didn't like them either... 😡

After cleaning out the site and finding out that "active" data thingies would not cooperate either, I went elsewhere.

So, if I want to do two different weapon types do I need 2 blue prints? Like one for plasma chargers and one gauss cannons? Or will one weapons blueprint do for both?

You need Vessel blueprints for unlocking the Guardian AX SLF which are of limited use and prohibited for AXI wings. For these, you need an Ancient Key you can get at Guardian Beacons. While these are rather cool in themselves (both the beacons and the SLF if flown in VR, crazy stuff), most people might find unlocking the SLF rather postponeable.

If you are after weapon blueprints: find a Guardian structure that yields weapon blueprints. Canonn have a list. Each site yields a certain blueprint type. In your SRV, find the main installation (the Ancient Terminal). Upon approaching, two pillars should come out of the earth, one left, one right of it. Fire both to activate them, triggering a counter. Then, find all remaining such pillars, fighting off any Guardian sentinels that appear at certain stages (collect the materials they drop for further use). Finally, find a pillar with a Guardian relic, shoot it, collect the relic and drop it in front of the Ancient Terminal. Scan the terminal and collect the blueprint. Rinse and repeat, yes, for some weapon types, traditional style, you need two to unlock (luckily, only one is required for the META Gauss canonn), but for the Modified (Salvation) stuff, you need one per weapon, each weapon. So collect as many as you can once you are there (requires relog), it never gets old ;)

O7,
🙃

There are different guardian sites for
  • vessel blueprints -> Guardian SLFs. I don't care about AXI wings, they just look cool. Plus, if an XG8 "Javelin" shoots you, you notice it. These require the key from a Guardian space installation (not necessarily the one that's associated with the ground structure, any one will do)
  • weapon blueprints -> Guardian weapons
  • module blueprints -> Guardian modules, like FSD boosters or MRPs/HRPs
The latter two use the ancient keys you can find on the sites themselves. The SLF keys won't work on these sites, and vice versa. So yes, a Guardian Vessel blueprint site won't accept an on-site Ancient Key (and neither will a module blueprint site accept the key that you sourced from a space installation).

As to which sites deliver which type of blueprint, I usually check in with Canonn.

For weapons (and modules?), as a rule of thumb, you will get access to the basic module by unlocking them at a Guardian tech broker. Afterwards, you can buy them at every station with a Guardian broker in the regular outfitter. Modified/preengineered Guardian weapons you need to buy individually at a Guardian broker - and you will need a matching blueprint (or two) for each and every instance of that weapon you want to buy.

Thanks so much! I guess I got lucky and the message sent me to the right place, also explains the reason why I couldn't get the alter to accept the guardian relic. Lesson learned!

I guess I will pick up some extra blue prints of each type. Might as well while I farm mats.

Hopefully my modifications I did to my rudder pedals (I use them to steer the SRV) wil help tame that beast.

I had a thoroughly miserable time trying to do this in a scarab, the damn thing is hopeless in odyssey. I swapped to the scorpion, and it was a million times better.

Also had the issue with materials disappearing, or being yeeted into the sky when I went near them

So it was a bug that the key I got on site wouldn't work at the sites alter?
From how I read it, no.

You got a vessel key from the installation, which worked at the vessel site to give you a vessel blueprint.
You then relogged on the vessel site and, after some problems, fed the altar with a generic key you got from the site. Which didn't work, as the altar on a vessel site will only accept vessel keys that you have obtained from a space installation.

Relogging only works on module or weapons sites - or if you obtained and stored multiple vessel keys from a space installation.

At a minimum I'd go for: Medium Guardian Gauss.

If you get to choose a few, I'd go for Guardian FSD booster, Medium Gauss, Small Gauss, and the Guardian Lance fighter.
The other guardian modules are semi-useful, but really just nice to have. An elite pilot in that guardian fighter will consistently kill scouts. You can use it yourself to take down a cyclops.
When I did the guardian grind I just massively overdid it, to unlock everything, and it was pretty pointless.

But you absolutely need medium gauss, bare minimum.

Hopefully my modifications I did to my rudder pedals (I use them to steer the SRV) wil help tame that beast.
Very good! Rudder pedals are absolutely the best way to steer the SRV, as it’s fluid and it matches your ship’s yaw movement - as such you retain muscle memory between the two vehicles. It also frees up your flight stick hand (right, in my case), so you can leisurely look around with the mouse while driving if you’re not using VR or TrackIR (neither of which I have).

You're doing it back-to-front. Go to a Guardian technology broker first, decide which module(s) you want to unlock and then go get the requirements for those.
If you try to unlock everything it will indeed be a grind. For instance, you only need a vessel blueprint if you want one of the Guardian SLFs.

I'm using Tobii Eyes, like them alot. I originally went to them because the SRV was giving me a carpal tunnel using a twist axis. I found that the longer stroke of the pedals also made the SRV less twitchy, more controllable.

But I always tend to do things ass backwards...

I find I have to switch to Xbox controller for SRV.

OK... Not having fun. At a new site, I lit off 4 of them, collected a relic on the way to the last pair by the alter, powered them up, dropped the relic... NO JOY.

I guess you can't get the relic before all pylons are energized. I also had an issue with not being able to land... Had to reset the instance. The only way I could get a relic was to disembark and shoot it on foot. This game really knows how to frustrate you at times.

Anyway, tapped out after runs thru the guardian site. Tomorrow I will hit a module site and then head back to the bubble.
