Hanger Workers and External camera

Maybe this idea won't be life-changing, but it would be nice to see workers in the hangars.
I don't know, maybe some security guys near the elevators before entering the station.
Some other workers moving cargo in the hangar, just adding some life to the environment.

Another suggestion is the external camera. It's not good at all, you press one key to access it, then you have to press another to close the UI, then another key to activate motion. ¿Can we get a normal external camera view with some decent distant, so I can just see everything around my ship easily?
I'm not saying it should be playable from external, but every other sim manages to have a mouse-controllable external view that lets you control the aircraft or spacecraft while doing so.

Press a Key, move the mouse and see around, simple as that. Not for fighting, etc., etc. Just an NORMAL external camera. Then, if you want, press a key to activate the HUD and use the camera as it is now in the game with the HUD and all the weird stuff.

2 easy and not hard changes for the game.

People that make videos seem to do it fine. The only issue I have with the camera is that it doesn't keep your last settings.

Well X4 and even Star Trucker has better external camera than Elite, I don't want to mention the other famous space "game" too.

1 key to press, perfect external distance, mouse rotation.

The external camera in ED has many advanced features that players asked for, like depth of field, motion blur etc specifically to aid creating good movies and pictures, so it is in fact not just an external camera, it's a video and photo making utility. Of course I just use it the exact way you want, left control to turn off UI, num-0 to activate free cam, basically 2 buttons so I am not sure what the issue is. Mouse to turn, zoom in/out, not sure what you mean by "perfect external distance," there is no fact no "perfect external distance", there is perfect for you and bad for a lot of other players, without zoom in/out it would be useless for what I want it to do.

Yep, strange reply. The controls can be bound to whatever you want and yeah...what's a "perfect" distance? Like I said, if it remembered it's last settings so it could jump straight to my "perfect" distance, that'd be pretty much all that's missing.

There are also preset camera positions that can be bound to keys, maybe one of those would be more useful to the OP.

Well, that distance for me is perfect. I can see my ship and move around.

Like metatheurgist said, I'm not complaining about the features, they are great, the problem is that they are not user-friendly.
Like I said, in other games, you just press a key to access and external view, and the camera is fixed to the center of the object, so you can rotate as will and appreciate the view.
Clearly, this camera is intended for content creators and not for players who just want to see the exterior of the ship and fly around
I want to press a key and set the camera like the picture... not press like 1 key to enter, another to clear UI then move and positioning the camera, another to access to the ship controls to move and after all of that... whenever I press the camera button again the camera is fixed in the preset camera position again, is frustrating for a game like this, with all the advanced camera features that they can't manage to save a camera position.

LOL, I suggested this years (a decade?) ago when observing the sterile and lifeless aspect of most of the game. No people anywhere. It's probably a complex problem but I hope it is on "the list" to add one day. SRVs (and other vehicles) driving around, Odyssey people walking around Horizons settlements, people walking about the space station landing cylinders and hangars.

GTA in space should be the goal. I don't care if NPCs instantiate and de-instantiate as rapidly as in GTA, it would make the game feel more alive when in inhabited space and that much more lonely in the void.

Yes, well, it seems that rather than create any kind of simulation they'd much rather make a game about commanders being space overlords of a boring empty universe.
