Hard Cap on speed

So I was fiddling with my little Imperial Eagle today, and as expected reducing the weight on it really improved my speed.
Until I got to a point where reducing my weight didn't affect my speed anymore. My speed is definitely hard capped at 819 m/s.

So here's my question.
Is the speed cap the same for every ship?
I have clean drive right now. Would I be able to push it even faster with a dirty drive tuning?
Or the hard Cap is the hard Cap no matter the trusters and upgrades?

Now I've got a 1.5ish T to add on it without affecting my speed, I've already got wepons on it, so I might have enough wigle room to fit in a shield or a full reinforcement package. Any recommendations?

Dirty Drive will you get going faster, the load-out of your ship will affect it's top speed, regardless of the type drive.

However, anyone else using the same configuration will achieve the same results, with a possible slight difference.

When FD made engineering into its current state, it "balanced" engineering results to give everyone the same effects.

So there is a hard cap so to speak.

Minimum mass is the key here. Once you reach it, reducing mass doesn't improve velocity further.

Increasing multiplier still will though, and you can get an Imperial Eagle to ~932m/s if you can keep it light enough with DD5 + drag drives.

No, the hard-limit isn't the same for every type of ship.

My Hauler, for example, tops out at 699m/sec while my Eagle/Viper both do in excess of 900m/sec

You have Enhanced Performance Thrusters on your iEagle, right?
Dirty drives are the way to go for ultimate speed.

As has been said, the minimum mass stat' dictates the weight at which reducing weight stops having an effect.
As you've realised, the benefit of continued weight-reduction is that you can then bung extra toys on without losing any speed.

If you want to stick a shield on it, there are 1A shields available (I think Auntie Farseer sells them) and 1C bi-weaves are available too.
These are kind of sucky but they're handy if you only have a class 1 slot available.

Alternatively, a 2D shield is lighter than the C1 shields, uses less power (IIRC) and provides a better shield - but it does require a C2 slot.

And then, of course, you can go and get a G5 Enhanced Low Power mod' done on the shield to reduce it's weight and power usage while improving it's performance slightly.

Personally, I figure that speed is a fast ship's best defence and the shield is only there to soak up bumps and knocks so a C1 shield is adequate, thus leaving the bigger slots free for, perhaps, a cargo rack so you can use the ship for those missions where you have to recover black boxes or whatever.

It's not really practical though, is it? :p

Some people were actually using it as a PvP tactic against runners for awhile, by using it on one of their wing-mates. I suppose it depends on how you decide to use it. Note that was before they adjusted it. Not sure if it'll impart that much force or not.

What happens if you try to turn after getting launched like that?

I do hope the game doesn't allow you to carry that momentum through a turn.

I am confused what is going on in that vid ?

'Force Shell' is a experimental effect for cannons (I think). It pushes the target away, if the target is fa-off quite far.
The guy in the vid is followed by his buddy in the fdl who is hitting him with that.

I think you're talking about a different video. ;)

The T9 is just going Ludicrous Speed... in beta.

My go-to anti-fixed weapon hardpoint xD If someones quicker on the shot than me, i'll lose, if not, they won't land a shot. (Vipers 3 + 4/Challenger to ensure im on target before them xD)

Love them shells.
