Hardcore gamers

Well the game just needs areas that are doable to new players. Like join in firefights with NPC armies where you are not getting targetted exclusively or something.

It does not have to be big payouts. There should be dangerous systems and missions and missions and areas that are for novice pilots. The combat is not that bad really...once you realize you can run from NPCs pretty easily....it's allt he other things like not being able to find the front door to the station, the clunky controls and interface(though I like them now), the fact the missions tell us nothing about where we need to go to do the mission, and the fact that knowing what you can and cannot kill is so hard to determine. And all the fines and penalties for small stupid things.

Anyone for Elite:Farmville?

I am trucking vegetables all over the universe saving up for a bigger tractor.

I am playing Elite:Farmville :)

Spending most of my time playing BMS, DCS and irking I don't find much about elite hardcore. All I ask is that it's fun but from what I have seen so far it's not hardcore. It's needs something to help newbies start out but once you know the basics it's not hard to play.

I don't see how this game is so hardcore? I can still fly with a keyboard and mouse. Ship goes where I point it. It's not like I have to sit there and constantly tweak my thrusters to get my ship to stay stable. I just press a key, point my mouse in a direction and I go that way.

You should play DCS games. Now that is hardcore. Sitting there for 20 minutes just getting your jet off the ground lol.

We already had a discussion about the possibility of more complex startup sequnces for ships, once first person/out of cockpit gameplay hits... not DCS-A10-20-minute-enginestart-level, mind you, but a somewhat more invovled process.

I agee games where harder in the past but living in the past will kill this game.

Elite needs controls changed to a button that you have to press repeatedly in order to win. Or else it will fail.

Except no, not at all, quite the contrary, do not want, nope, njet, nein, nej.

@warbaby2: A more involved startup sequence? Sign me up ^_^ That would be awesome. Just imagine the great sound design they have, you could hear the engines come alive in detail as you start it up and switch on various subsystems...

What the game needs, and what FD acknowledged, is a means to help first time players get aquainted. Not dumbing down the game. Dumb it down and the masses may enjoy it a little more, but they'll move on after a few weeks. Us nerds and freaks however, we will stay for 30 years.

Well I hope FD remembers to put an option into the configurations to disable this... to cater for the not-so-into-these-kinda-things crowd...

After all, if "Supercruise is a mini-game that wastes time" for them, think of what they'll say about flipping 20 switches and ticking off a checklist...

Plus, I'm sure some genius will soon figure out how to get their Voice Attack to do this via a single "Betty, warm the ship up for me" :D

I think FD have proven that they don't quite care what that particular crowd is saying... ED is a simulation and no arcade shooter, afterall, and that means there has to be certain level of "busy work" to further immersion.

Well, there is another option for instance arcade shooter in space. Sometimes I like to play ArmA 3 sometimes I play BF 4, same thing apply here.

Elite, in it's present form, is not hardcore it's casual.

I'm hoping it becomes more hardcore though.. there are things they can do.

I completed Dark Souls:prepare to die edition with a level 1 character. All the bosses.

That is hardcore.

Also I completed Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite and got Fatalis Armor and the top weapons. Also hardcore.

I'm not sure what hardcore would mean for Elite, but I'm happy they way it is now, counting on that it will get more difficult to make cash, as well as more mission difficulty on release day.

But it should be within reason. If the DCS sim, where you spent 30mins trying to flip all switches and take off (sorry for paraphrasing, never played it), it isn't hardcore for me, it's just tedious. Other way to look at 'hardcore' games like Dark souls, is that is just a question of time - try/fail, repeat until perfected, so you can move on. Usually, the only thing that makes the game hardcore is players fighting each other, where skills and smarts will prevail.

But I am speaking from Unreal Tournament vet perspective. It never got really popular in general public or more casual players I guess, although pretty much all gamers know the series. Joining a random game and getting your ass handed to you every time will get frustrating. Losing 30:-2 is just cherry on top of the mt.defeat ^^.

My point is, hardcore means different things for different people.

Exactly...

'E-Prime', a variant of semantics, has a main rule which forbids the use of the word 'is' with reference to identity.

So according to E-Prime, it would be against the rules to say 'Elite IS hardcore', you would need to change it to something like 'Elite seems hardcore to me'.

Just imagine for a moment how different this forum would be if people used this E-Prime principle. There would be no more 'this IS right' or 'this IS wrong' or 'this IS good' or 'this IS bad' and people would be more aware that they were giving their opinion rather than stating a fact (it seems to me...) :)

To Much Hardcore and there will be Nocore. When this game is reviewd on final release and then say"Hardcore spacegame for Hardcore space nuts" how many people will be interested.

You may say you do want anyone in the game who is not a hardcore space nut.Well scare too many people away there will be no money to further fund the game. The burden of funding will fall on the people who wish to contine playing the game.I agee games where harder in the past but living in the past will kill this game.

Okay.... How is this game hardcore? Because you have to remember to put your landing gear down? or because you have to deploy hardpoints before you shoot?

Go play star conflict if you want COD in space.

You have to remember stuff too!!!
That is way too hardcore!
What is next?
Will we have to actually... do stuff?
Why can't they just make it playable and clickable,
you know... like angry birds!
Then it would be wonderful!

Frontier Please fix this now...

...but, don't forget PvP, or the game will be doomed! ;)

I think the op is being trampled on here a little bit.

The essential point he/she is making is that there is a concern that the audience is limited because the learning curve is too steep.

They may have a point.

For me, as an alpha/kickstarter backer, I'm happy and expected it to be this way.....and yes a child of the 70's so experienced the challenges of the old games, however I do want this game to succeed. I WANT planetary landings!!
There is no point "biting your nose to spite your face" by burying our collective head in the sand and saying "hardcore, no compromise" LIFE is about compromise, I should know I'm married with children :D

If that means that a tutorial is needed or something else to help the newer generation then I'm happy to compromise. I can still play it my way ;)

Its still beta, things will change. Some changes I will like others, possible not so much but I do trust FD in these things as they also want it to succeed as their business.

All ED needs then is positive word of mouth, good marketing and above all great game play.

External view would be nice too! could not resist

The game was already funded ages ago, and of course the burden of further funding will fall on people who wish to continue playing, who else do you expect would pay for it ?

Having said that, there is a very big market for hard games, a game does not have to rival the big titles to be successful.
If you Dont like it, then don't play it, just don't try to pretend that something is wrong.
