Has anyone Noticed This About Odyssey?

in Odyssey “the poem” there is a monster called Charybdis , a giant whirlpool that sinks all ships that come close , there is no way FD isn’t useing this as the name for a thargoid mother ship. Maybe it will make an appearance in our Odyssey just like it did in the Epic poem Odyssey ?

Also we all know Thargoid ships are named after Greek monsters, But have you noticed FD has avoided useing any Nymph Names From the poem odyssey . Names like Calypso &Circe, maybe they are a class of foot soldiers maybe.

It is obvious that ships are named after themes, snakes being the most well known in Elite, however I think you are crediting Frontier with too much forward planning.

I can see where he's going with this...

I'm worried that because I started on a Greek mythology thing, I named one of my ships "Scylla". FD are sure to nick that one eventually.

I trust you have a black paint job of some sort at all times for that ship ;)

DB studied Natural Sciences at Jesus College, Cambridge, specialising in Electrical Science in his final year. The classics must have rubbed off from fellow undergraduates.

I think there is just a big 'classical' background to the education of King Dave to be honest with you, but I do like the idea - it would be a great choice of name for a bigass thargoid ship! A lot of the classical eponymy goes over the heads of most players, but I guess it's just great referencing imho.
It took me a long while to realise that Kraits and Sidewinders are types of snakes.

I have often named my ships, characters and vehicles not just in ED but other games as well after greek mythology.

For sci fi games and space ships it tends to be a mix of greek mythology and Culture ship names from Ian M Bank novels.
