has oculus store got the beta update yet?

Not the store, Mike.

The first launch select start in desktop mode to get the launcher. The beta is in the selection box at the bottom of the launcher - select 3.3 beta Horizons and wait a little while. Once downloaded and installed quit out then open in VR as usual.

You need to open the launcher manually and d/l the beta. I don't think OH will trigger the update...

Indeed, probably best to install the launcher available from FD and install the beta that way as I suspect (haven't tried yet so willing and hoping to be wrong!) that having to launch in desktop mode from oculus to select the beta will cause issues if you are then wanting to run it in VR as it's likely to reset your display device every time.

Or just find the launcher in the oculus game folder and launch it directly.
Should work.

The beta will be a complete and separate install though so it will take twice the space on your drive.
You won't save any download or drive space by using the oculus install.

Anyone able to get this running through Oculus yet? I've only been able to get the desktop version to load, which has been a good teaser but really want to give the new exploration tools a go in VR. Have tried each of the above suggestions so far to no avail.

If you start in desktop mode you can log out the laucher so you have to enter the password again.

Then start from oculus in vr, it'll probably ask for the password and you can select the beta.

Having just tried the Rift, following the beta update, I can see no way of launching the beta rather than the live game. Will have to take a look where the beta download lives!

Was busy setting up the keybindings in pancake, then gave up as the server connection was misbehaving a little.

I'll give that a try.... If I can remember my password :S

Have you got the graphics setting for HMD (speakers) or HMD (Headphones) selected in the beta? It's under 3D in the ED menu.

I might go ahead and give it a try in desktop just to get a feel for the scanning mechanics, but likewise, will wait for an update. I can tell that I don't like the size of the scanning screen or that it's flat.

Definitely a fan of the interface changes and the faction screens what little I looked at them. Visual enhancements looked to be pretty substantial too, at least in desktop mode.

Hi Guys

I have the beta installed on Oculus, Steam and the original Frontier. I have tried to launch manually in all 3 and only managed to start the beta in each platform once. Every time I try to launch in any of the above now the game launches to the monitor but in the HMD I just get a blurred box with the elite logo or a blurred box with what looks like a crack through it. any Help would be appreciated

I downloaded the beta through the ordinary launcher then quit out, put on the headset and used the virtual desktop to reboot the launcher. Scolled down to the beta and it launched into VR. Next time I accessed recent games and it comes up as ED 64 (Or something similar) launch from that and it works every time. Now all it needs is to show the signals correctly without having to close one eye ;)

tried your way Wolfman still didn't work I can hear the game running on my monitor but inside the rift I get a white screen with a lot of black dots a small icon says loading and some weird sort of humming music but it just hangs there maybe I am in rift twilight zone and I'm the only one that's real [alien][alien][where is it][where is it]

the beta might turn off the 3d option in some instances on startup.
If it does just set the 3d option in graphics back to HMD-headpones\speakers as before.

I didn't even bother to take the set off, I just used the keyboard and the oculus dash desktop.

Also.
All sources go for the exact same config file to run the game, so if beta turns off the 3d option it will be off for all sources.

Also live.
Although it might be possible the /VR option the oculus library use forces it back on.

Problem solved thanks to TorTorden I cant believe it was just a switch in the 3d settings I never thought to look there. Thanks guys see you in the black :D:D:D

its really odd... this did not work for me. when i went into elite in flat screen mode from the oculus version the 3D settings simply were not there.... installed the frontier version and they are there as expected.
