Have you noticed how good the route planner is?

Greetings commanders,

the attention to detail continues to amaze me.

You probably all know that your route planner tells you how far you can jump with your current fuel (solid line vs. dotted line).
But have you noticed that you can watch the solid line 'grow' while scooping fuel? Park near a star, open the galaxy map and you get a live view on how far you can go.

My Vulture has a tiny 1A fuel scoop (emergency use only), so I watch my fuel need closely and refuel at stops rather using the scoop.

see you all out there,
Commander Benderson

Even though a sphere of how far you can jump would be infinitly more usefull in 99% of situations I'll give you +1 Rep for having the balls to open a randomly-takes-an-indeteminatly-long-ammount-of-time-to-open map while sitting dangerously close to a giant blazing fusion reactor.

This exact thing.

Pity it wont save a favorite. Re-selecting the same target over and over when trading is a chore. A quality of life update for favourite locations would go a long way.

Also it forgets it's settings when you log out that's poor behavior.

Also we cant turn off the myriad routes we are not using making the map look messy.

Also multi target routes would be nice.

- there is a lot of love that could be given to the route "planner" .

*Doing my best movie announcer voice* Did you know that you still cannot select a star with the mouse cursor while using the galaxy map in VR ? The mouse cursor has not been aligned with the focal plane since alpha. Gotta love the attention to detail of the galaxy map :)

Your jump range depends on which jumps you take so it's not a sphere (consider the difference in total range when using "fastest" vs "most economic"). It would be better if the systems in range were just highlighted somehow rather than drawing all those confusing lines though.

If you mean the economical vs. fast routes selection checkboxes - yes you can. It remembers the last one you switched on. Select either one then turn it off.

.

Yes we can...

Just click on your preferred route option again (fast/economic) and remove the dot, then you only will get the route lines, not all the possible route-lines.

NOT LIKING the way you lose your route plan if you happen to target an object for a detailed scan :mad:

If you go to the bottom of the list of nearby systems on your left-hand screen, you'll see the next jump in your planned route marked with the route icon. you can then select jump from there to continue on with your route. I've been using that for a while now while scanning systems I'm exploring.

Except it's conjured up another bug. If you do that you lose a previously plotted galaxy route.

Not a bug, I'm afraid. If you select or plot a route, this will be your nav computers point of reference and will override any previous selected destination. M Brookes mentioned this in another thread.

I'd love the option to switch off those blessed blue lines. They make life near impossible in the core and I end up switching between fastest and economical plots just to clear the lines so that I can see the systems.

Is it just me, has anyone found out how to switch them off?

Yup. If you click on the Nav tab, look down to where it says "fastest" or "economical" click on the one you want, then click on it again ie so that none of the two options are highlighted. The lines go away and you still plot a route with the one you last clicked.

I stopped using my OR with ED due to the finickity Galxay and Systems map driving me crazy when using the rift :(

And the text being almost illegible (I'm old), it's a real pity because the Rift made ED super awesome and myself about 30% a better pilot, I just need the systems map for exploration so the rift had to go :(

Sir my most heart felt +rep to date. Many thanks!

Just hold down both mouse buttons to move the cursor in the selection plane - I'm seriously astonished so many people have problems with either map in VR.

The font could be bigger, but then again, I just lean in a little.

Never used the galaxy map on a screen - works like a charm and I honestly think that using the map in VR actually is one of the best things about ED in the rift.
