I argue that on-foot gameplay makes sense in terms of the original kickstarter long term development ambition, ship interiors, space walking, game-hunting on earth like worlds, procedurally generated cities etc. So it's not a new thing.

Ah yes i remember the talk of game-hunting on planets and the cities to be added like we had in Frontier (elite II) and FFE. It would be very interesting to know how much of the Outsider (remember that) made into Elite Dangerous, as part of a concept on how not being just a ship could work etc.
