Help needed identifying a thing

Up in HIP 58832 I observed this exceptionally bright thing off in the distance. It's also present in the galaxy map but I'm terrible at navigating that without a system name to type in so I've come to the experts.

I also tried to navigate to things in the backdrop... The way you can tell it is a backdrop is, that these things are not moving relative to the other objects, when you move in the galaxy map... So you can tell, that they are very far away...

I just wish, that there was some sort of telescope mounted in my ship, so that I could at least observe them in detail... You would think, that in a starship that can travel faster than light, such a device would be implemented in the same way rear mirrors are implemented in cars... It is one of many things that are kind of boggling my mind... together with the limited abilities of the route plotter, auto pilot etc...

There is a kind-of-telescope installed. It's only got 4x zoom, but it's better than nothing. Just go to the external camera, scroll the view so your ship isn't in the way, and hit the "zoom in" button (you might have to define the zoom in and zoom out buttons in Options first) to maximum zoom.

To demonstrate: here's the sky in the direction of the constellation Scutum, as seen from Sol, at regular zoom as seen through the cockpit:

And here it is at maximum zoom, from the external camera:

You can see the nebulosity much better, and faint stars are made brighter and more visible. It won't do what a real telescope will do, and make invisible stars visible, because that would need extra skybox calculations to find those "invisible stars". Which would also render any telescope with zoom levels more than 10x kind of useless.

Yeah, although that is not what I would expect from a starship in a distant future... But you cant have it all... Im happy even without it... Just, you know, would be nice... :)
