Help needed: Screenshots of ships required

I'm planning to create the ultimate Elite: Dangerous ship size comparison chart, but I had to realise I cannot do this on my own: a couple of the ships are too large to be captured with the debug camera in the way I need the pictures when you are flying the ships yourself. That means, this has to be a two man job: one flies the ship, the other takes the picture.

Unfortunately, none of my friends have the ships of which I still need the pictures, so I need your help.

I still need pictures of the following ships:

  • Anaconda
  • Federal Dropship
  • Imperial Clipper
  • Type-9
  • Orca
  • Python

It would be great if someone manages to get a shot of the F63 Condor and the Imperial Fighter, but not required.

I'm also considering including the capital ships in the chart, but I don't know where to find an Majestic class Interdictor for sure. I would be much obliged if someone could give me the location of one or take a picture of one in the way I need it (see below).

The pictures should look like this:

M2NWu3y.jpg

The viewpoint directly above the ship, the light source is dead ahead and about 45° above. The resolution should be at least 1920x1080.

It would be really great if you guys could help me out here. :)

Great idea, OP. I can help with a Clipper and, if no one volunteers in time, a Python, too (would just require a bit of a trip back to where I parked it).

One suggestion, though - why just shots from above? Imho at least a profile shot from the side should be included for every ship, too. :)

Here's dropship. Tips of the backwings don't completely fit in pic tho.

Would you be able to take an overhead picture on the pad? I'm using the pad lines as referencing to get the absolute sizes to compare (link in my signature), and the Dropship is the medium I don't have.

OP, would you like to collaborate, as you can resize the pictures in 'space' based on my pad ones?

First of all, thanks for the replies, but khemsa's post exactly exemplifies the problem I have:

Around that size class and above, the ships simply no longer fit completely in the frame of the debug camera when you take the picture alone. The Type-7 was the largest I could squeeze into the picture without losing more than maybe a few pixels, but the others are missing quite some bits.

Yeah, once I have the scale that should be possible.

I thought about that, but decided that the result would be too cluttered. I will include all measurements in numbers, though (width x length x height).

How about a cockpit shot of a Farragut Battlecruiser?
I know where to find a Farragut all the time (near Earth), so I could take that picture myself. I'm not completely sure if I include the cap ships, though, since they are significantly larger than the all the other ships, which might mess up the layout. I have to see how this works out.

There you are, the Imperial Clipper. Can't zoom out far enough, so I moved the camera around a bit. Maybe these can be stitched together for a bigger picture?

P.S.: @Poseidal feel free to use these pictures for your comparison thread, too. :)

Nice, though when putting them together, the in-game perspective actually messes it up a bit so it's hard to get the landing pad as even. Might need to get two players for the large pads (and the overheads).

You need a scale reference in each picture to allow relative sizes to be established.
A Cobra would be good as we know exactly how big that is too.

Judging from Poseidal's effort, that might be serviceable. I'll see how this works out when I smooth out the edges. Thanks!

Best way to do this would be to get a few people who together own all of the ships in one place. One player acts as cameraman and stays in a fixed location in front of an object that can be used as a precise location marker. Everyone takes turns flying their ships in to the exact same spot in front of the camera, and you end up with an accurate size comparison of the entire fleet. Make sure to test it beforehand so the biggest ships are completely in frame when you take the shot, the cameraman won't be able to move an inch until it's finished or you'll ruin it. Make sure whatever you use as a location marker is accurate in 3 dimensions. If any of the ships are slightly closer or further away from the camera in any direction it won't be accurate. Landing pads aren't useful unless you do 3 separate shoots for each size, with everyone docking on the same pad without the camera moving.
Tricky, but doable in one go if you plan ahead properly. I think I covered everything that'll help minimise any changes in perspective or field of view that could throw calculations off.

Here is the closest thing I can get to a conda top view:

You'll note the seams, but this should be about as accurate to scale as one man can get it. Maybe if I reset my FoV it would distort less, but I don't believe it'd be perfect either.

Problem is there's no consistent pad lines to compare by when we piece them together.

Maybe it requires two CMDRs for the large pads.

Yeah it really is a matter of getting a second CMDR to line up the whole pad to fill the screen or something like that.

I'd be up for that tommorow if any of you is as well.

Orca top view - I tried to get a side view but the game crashed twice. I'll try again but if it crashes again I give up.
