Help with conflict zones.

Right I'm a trader by day and a explorer by night but hey I want some of this engineering malarky for my ships so I've come across one who wants some "combat bonds" just to speak to him. Ok I thought look up these conflict zones find a fed place at war and after seeing what I might expect (a good fight) I decide just to outfit a small ship first to get a feel for it and be able to skiddadle just in case things get hairy. Jump in, check who losing and pick the winning side (only heros are dead ones) , target a ship fly around him a bit taking some shots then every other "enemy" ships targets me and ignores everyone else.. humm ok time to leave.

Take a python this time for a bit of added defensive, same thing every other ship starts targetting me and my shields are gone in no time in hull in even less time and have to haul .
Right obviously time to bring the big guns out.

Refit my tradeconda after looking up some "THIS IS THE SHIZZLE" "THIS CAN SIT IN A CZ FOR HOURS" "FLY TO HUTTON 1000 CREDIT CONDAS" "CORVETTES SUCK AZZ COMPARED TO THIS" type of threads and fit my conda accordingly, now don't get me wrong I'm not fighter in this game at all but it's a fairly beefy setup took it to a haz rez for a bit of practice on how it handles etc seems fine, take that you nasty wing of condas. Right O off to the CZ but I'll make it a cough... Low intensity this time cuz reasons..

Anyway same thing pick the loser side, 4 pips to shields 2 to weps, fa off so no problems keeping with them but everything just automatically starts firing at me and my shields just go in a puff of plasma smoke and I'm using shield cells and heats shields just to get out without popping. from entry to exit it was less than 2 minutes before I'm escaping with literally duct tape holding me together... now I'm obviously crap at this fighting game but I can be certain I'm missing something here and I'm making some kind of mistake because how else do people get bonds without having to rebuy ships every other 40 seconds.. So far I've lasted probably less than 3 minutes in any conflict zone high or low because 1 or 2 ships I can handle but for some reason its literally always 6 or 7 and literally every ship I have tried melts.

Please advise someone who obviously sucks DBS at shooting stuff. Thankfully I at least no enough about running away so no rebuys yet...

Be aggressive and fast.
If a bunch start shooting at you, turn and face them.
All but 1 will break off.

Pick fights where you have the numbers.

For ships like the Python and above use HICZ as you'll be facing similar sized opponents, in a LICZ you're more likely to be targeted by wings of smaller fighters and if you use Python + ships as you're considered to be the highest threat so the NPC's focus on you rather than similar sized ships on your side.

I used a Viper in CZ's for quite a while (small, fast, cheap and expendable ;)) but recently I've been using a Python with 5 x efficient PA's in HICZ it's great against medium and large ships but with small fighter wings it's best to disengage and acquire new targets, with any CZ combat you got to keep moving and continually check the scanner for enemy ship clusters that could mob you, also when you get some bonds wake out and cash them in don't hang in there for another few k and lose everything.

This may be a silly question, but are you actually choosing the side you are fighting for on your functions panel?

If you just start pew-pewing one side without formally declaring which you fight for, you can end up pulling a lot of aggro.

All explained here. You can use a Sidewinder in case you get blown up, but if you follow the advice in the Video, rebuy is unlikely:

Find a High CZ with a Farragut. Fight on that side; the Farragut provides great cover fire and great physical cover. Like a roman bath you pick your intensity by choosing how far you stray from the Farragut. Too close and it'll steal all your kills too far and you lose cover. And you'll enjoy the knowledge that you're supporting the only superpower that matters. :p

When you enter the CZ and pick a side, find the biggest friendly ship in the fleet, stay near it and mooch off the enemy ships it targets. Never stray too far so you don't get swarmed by enemies.

CZ's can be a bit tricky to start with until you get the feel of them. The way I do them is to first find a CZ where the fight is between one of the main powers and an independent. The independents usually have worse ships so you've got an advantage from the start :D

Next when entering the CZ fly away from the furball and then turn around once you've got some distance, select a star system to high wake to if things go south then pick your side (make sure its the right one hehe). Now watch the fight, look to see firstly that your side isn't outnumbered. If it looks good find an edge of the fight where your side outnumbers the enemy and apply your firepower there. Look to concentrate firepower with the npcs to quickly bring down the enemy numbers and turn the battle to your favour. A quick numerical advantage at the start can make the rest of your combat session drastically easier. Take down smaller ships first as the less ships there are on the field the more your NPC team concentrates on the remainders, big ships can soak a lot of damage so having all your team shooting at them as all the small ships are already dead can really speed things up.

Always try to outnumber the enemy in your area of the fight, situational awareness is key I actually spend more time flying by the radar than looking out the cockpit only looking up to take shots, if more enemies warp in and are all around you boost away towards the highest concentration of friendlies and let them take some aggro. If things look bad high wake out to your safe system and start over.

Hope this helps :)

Basically, this. Find the heavy hitter. Take a Vulture in. And be it's BFF. Less 'be the hero' more 'try and keep the hero alive' in a CZ and you can live there fat and happy pretty much forever.

Vulture is fast, hits like a truck and isn't a very big target (so will be considered a lower threat than the nice big anaconda you're using as a meat shield good and dear friend). But ostensibly, you want to find the nearest Anaconda or Corvette on 'your side' and be it's very very best friend.

Picking sides about ~4km away from the beacon is also sage advice. Being ploughed 30 seconds after arrival is common if you scream the functional equivalent of "I HAVE SO MANY GUNS LET ME SHOW YOU THEM" by picking a side in the middle of the furball. You will suddenly have the attention of everything. They see your guns, they hatin'.

More generally speaking - CZ is not really about being the hero; heroes die in CZs. All the time. It's a team fight. So treat it like one. Keep the team alive. And you'll roll the instance, gain the upper hand and maintain control for as long as you remain.

Easy mode CZ - Find a High Intensity CZ with a single cap ship. Select the faction that has the cap ship. Bring a laser eagle and kill steal all day. You'll have to take a shower because you'll feel dirty after.

Pretty easy mode CZ - Fly a fast laser clipper with gimbals or turrets, biweave and res aug boosters. Boost turn boost turn stay on the perimeter. Select targets under attack already. If two opponents light you up, boost away at 500+ heal up and come back. Be patient. You're not there for popping ships with a frag hammer, you're in for the long grind.

Gawd I miss stacking those massacre missions.

A key thing that hasn't been mentioned yet...

When you arrive in a HICZ, fly to the edge of the CZ and park up. And WAIT. I mean seriously wait! Like for up to 5 minutes! All of the ships will have picked targets and settled down into attacking these assigned targets. Many of the ships will have been destroyed and an equilibrium of sorts will have been reached. During this phase, scan as many ships as you can while you are waiting.

Once things have settled down, this is the point that you enter the conflict by picking a side on the system panel on the RHS. If you have been scanning the ships, you will have a good idea how many there are on each side (generally pick the stronger side...).

This will make an amazing difference! When I first did this, CZs suddenly became playable! I prefer to go in with a Corvette but a conda should work fine. I prefer large ships, which have better Biweave Shields that can recharge between individual engagements. By waiting, it turns the conflict into something that you can participate in. You'll be milking CZs in no time! :p

All the Best

I don't have anything constructive to add but expressing my sympathy for the OP.

I had bad experience with my mission-fitted python, so I did wait until I got a conda.
When I took it to a CZ first, it wasn't brand new anymore, but still shiny somehow and I felt invincible.
So I lost her in no time when my attention was distracted for a moment; she's named 'Memento Mori' since then.
:)

One tip of someone who ran in exactly the same problem.
I have experience with HiRez hunting but never did CZ before but also wanted this engineer to be unlocked so I went to a LICZ.
After some falures I ended up with that https://eddp.co/u/R5FiRPhN which worked pretty fine as most of the enemys are ignoring you as you are so cute and small :D
(The Thruster upgrade is random as I do not have access to my real build link right now, just wantet to show it is G4 Dirty, rest has been unengineered)
with 2PIPs to shield and 4PIPs to weapon I still have been able to stand against eagles without any problems and I don't think my shields ever went off. I even have been able to kill a conda with (nearly) no help from NPCs.
For SLF just put 4PIPs to engine and 2PIPs to weapons and you will see him explode in no time.
Just make sure to choose ships ehich get attacked by others already and you should be fine for the beginning. Once you are used to it try to find your own targets.
