Help with probing planets.

I've seen tutorials on this but none of them actually explain the most important detail. How do you fire the probes around a planet to try to scan it completely. I have binds for analysis mode and I'm in it and I have a discovery scanner. But when I use it I only fire the discovery scanner like you used to do with the Advanced discovery scanner. It's from pre patch. Do I need to buy a new one in game? Or is there some way to get into that mode where you fire probes?

How do you get into the probe firing mode and actually fire them. Which buttons etc? I know I have to bind keys but I think I bound them all and none of them seem to work.

BTW, I have fss mode working and have scanned most of my current system. I just can't figure the probing out. I'm right next to a planet and still can't do it. Is there some distance you need to gap or some button to press to start?

Do you have a Detailed Surface Scanner? Is it bound to a fire group?

The Discovery Scanner is built i to every ship now. The Detailed Surface Scanner is what launches probes.

Yep. I only have the discovery scanner installed. I swore I put it on my ship. I must have installed it too close to a server save or something. I know I removed the item that was in place of it. It must have reset my installation.

Installed it. Now it is working as expected.

Comment On...,

Funny, I had a similar experience.

When I first logged into the game, knowing that the 3.3 update had gone live, I immediately noticed in the ships loadout that I had an extra optional slot that wasn't there before. Having heard rumors that Frontier was going to make one of the scanners a permanent fixture in all ship loadouts, I immediately thought to myself, good, now I can use that open slot to equip my Python with a vehicle hanger and an SRV -- Knowing that I would want to make use of said SRV for the new expanded planetary discoveries inherit in Chapter 4. What I hadn't taken into consideration was that for my particular loadout I never had a Detailed Surface Scanner to begin with. <<sigh>>
