Here is the real reason we don't need players owning space and structures.

I don't care if you've coordinated people to get a project done at work, at an egg toss at the family reunion or whatever. Do it again in a high adrenaline environment where one person's 100% avoidable mistake costs hundreds of other people valuable time and resources. Moreover, players who join these corps expect to be yelled at if they screw up. They join because they know they're expected to perform above average and they want that pressure because it makes succeeding that much more satisfying. They talk with the group's leaders and get an idea for how they maintain their corporation and if they don't like it, they don't join. The leaders handle individuals individually, some people do better with honey, some people need a stick. If you really have led large groups then you know there is always going to be one person that you've just got to get in their face and bring them to reality to get them cooperating with the rest. That's a fact of life. You don't flip a coin 100 times and have it land on head 100 times.
If that's how you think people should be spoken to and organised and managed, then you have no idea how to manage, co-ordinate and organise people. The fact you started this reply with "I don't care" says all I need to know about you. I'd get an infraction if I gave you my honest opinion of you on the forum. I'll not waste my time with you any further, but any players who behave like those in the video, are not welcome here.

What you call some trash talk is what I and other fathers try to protect our children from hearing. If I heard anyone talk to my son that way I would be on the war path as any dad should be.

The attitude of some people thinking that profanity is cool is just utter stupidity.

Would they dare to talk that to anyone in real life or even at work? No. Because all of the little boys that act this way have had a poor upbringing with little to no respect for others or themselves - you may be OK with some trash talk but expect other to make a judgement on you based on this - swearing is for those who have little to no intelligence.

Swearing is just words, and depending on where and how you grow up, they will have varying degrees of impact. I don't think it shows a lack of intelligence, because if you can understand what they are communicating then they achieved what they set out to do. Swearing offers a succinct and passionate emotive language that children should probably not be included in and I agree that this type of language used on a child is wholly unnecessary. But I wouldn't consider someone unintelligent if they used emotive language.

In example: A phallus engorging, excrement consumer is not as emotive or impacting as a d... sucking... etc etc.

That you would want to use those terms to describe someone in a game you are playing with suggests a type of person I just wouldn't want to play with. But I would say you are as likely to find someone here that speaks that way as you are in any game. It is a common way to behave online.

Oh and I have heard people speak that way at work... quite commonly. IT industry has some socially inept characters and I often wonder how they keep their jobs.

Profanity is a normal occurrence in the military. However, this kind of undisciplined, unprofessional *behavior* is not the normal mode of leadership.

Except for generals/flag officers. :(

Competitive gaming brings out the worst behaviors. That's why we have solo mode (and greatly regret the loss of offline mode).

Yes, yes they do. As a matter of fact organizations that you depend on every day have been doing it for centuries.

Nice to see them keeping it clean for the cameras, ask anyone who has been through boot camp how clean they keep it.

It's crude but effective, so that you don't have moments like this.

In an environment where you have nothing to motivate people but your voice. You stick with what works.

Quite simply, it works. And as I said, if you don't like it, all you have to do is not get involved. People join those corps because they expect a strict and disciplined structure, and you're only going to get that one way over a microphone when you have to deal with the worst as well as the best.

Actually no I am not saying anything about what happens in ED I posted a link to a you tube piece that had me laughing and used a cheeky title to grab attention. Seems to have caused you offence so my apology is aimed at those of you who took it serious.

Oh, no offence at all. Im just pointing out, that this kind of behaviour is up to people, not game.

Otherwise very amusing.

Can you link to that please, because the last I heard it wasn't possible for someone who started a group in Elite Dangerous, to ban or even kick people out of the group.

I guess it was on teamspeak.

There is massive difference between having to motivate people who have to depend on each other to literally not get killed in real life, and a game.

Video games are entertainment. Shouting and namecalling to "motivate" people when absolutely nothing serious is at risk, is called being an *******. (insert whatever at the *'s :D )

Wow so happy that there arnt people like that in ED on open, well none that i come across anyway.
Had tears of laughter at that idiot with the scream at the end pmsl.

I really have to agree with you on this statement which is my primary reason for posting it as I felt it was extremely entertaining and I see a number of players agree with me. By the way thank you so much to all those who repped me your very kind.;)

Yes, most gamers are slightly immature in some way. Sounds like a bunch of 12 year olds...

Nothing wrong with the language, except a fairly limited range of expression...

And joining a group with that kind of strict environment is 100% voluntary. They are up front about it, they tell you that if you screw up you will get called on it, and after it's done? The other 4 hours of your night gaming are spent joking and laughing, so it's whatever.

How hard is it to understand that people CHOOSE these groups because they consider the rough discipline a BENEFIT?
