Hey! Why does FD still charge $$$ for the base game?

Hopefully because they dislike the free to play business model.

Hopefully.

Probably not...

Well, the center piece of F2P games are microtransactions.
Seems to me FD doesn't dislike that particular part of the F2P model.
Funny how that goes, eh ?
That said, i still prefer B2P, i just still haven't figured why anyone would accept microtransactions on top of paying full price for a game.
I know i won't.

Your ignorance of games and a company magnitudes of times more successful than Frontier does not weaken the OPs argument. By all means keep living in a cave though.

No. The fact that OP is referring to a time-limited promotion as if they've decided to just give it away forever, plus the fact that he's taking that one game and acting as if it represents the new norm in terms of a distribution model do weaken it considerably though.

Magnitude and Success does not mean it's a good company to emulate.

And considering how poor Destiny 1 and 2 is im not surprised they give it away.

They could have been awesome but there are so many things they made wrong.

I know... weird isn't it.

Because there may be people who are on the fence about buying the game and they buy the non-horizons version for 25 to "check it out" before commiting (or not) to paying 50 for the "full" game.

Or maybe the 25 non-horizons version is still selling well so giving it away for free makes no sense.

I believe the guys at frontier whose job is look at the numbers and decide on pricing already thought about these matters and decided what they saw was best for business.

Why does everyone want stuff for free these days?! Free free gimme gimme free rabble rabble free gimme gimme!
The game is only £19.99...peanuts. Even someone with a paper round can easily save up in a single week to afford this.

I need a new GFX card to run my future 8k VR headset...you think nVidia will start giving away 1080TIs for free....I'd love a couple of those. Maybe I should post something on their web site.

There are 1000's of hours of youtube videos and livestreams and there are 1000's upon 1000's of forum threads...If someone is STILL on the fence after viewing this then the game is not for them. Simples.

Paid for expansion contains new features not available to people who won't upgrade...shock horror. *sigh*

Not a problem with me mate.. just saying. Holo-me is a feature that IMO should be also in the base game, so i can see those people's avatars. Not everything has to make profit in this life.

-Free on PC until Nov 18th...basically a time limited promotion.
-also, Loot Boxes

That's just me skimming the surface of the Destiny 2 monetization, a game that doesn't interest me enough to dig further, but leaves me with little doubt it has plenty of other ways to milk their players.
We're talking Activision-Blizzard here.
Pretty hilarious to suggest that company does anything out of sheer sympathy for their customers.

So much this. +rep.

If you want to compare with other companies, Star Citizen charges real money for ships.
You PLEDGE money to CIG and in return you get a ship, which can be also bough in-game. It is a big difference to what you describe, which is more like World of Tanks.
Should FDev do the same?
No, it is fine as it is, as long as future content doesn't play like bare minimum effort has been put into it.

As a shareholder of multiple companies and a company owner myself...I disagree.
You have to draw the line somewhere. The issue is that it doesn't matter where you draw the line someone, somewhere, will not be happy with the line. It's impossible to please the internet.

The reason is very simple, they charge money because they can, maybe F2P is free because that's the only way to get copies out or because they want to make money in an P2W senario.

ED isnt an expensive game, its on sale every few months and is typically cheap as chips. I dont understand why some people have not yet purchased Horizons or expect the base client to now be free.
Somes space games in the world (still under development....(but then so is ED)) are charging THOUSANDS for content.

As a gamer i can tell you i don't really mind lines being drawn, i mind lines constantly (and ever more rapidly) being moved.
And oddly enough only ever being moved to benefit one side of the equasion (hint: it's not the gamer's side).
So i do beg your pardon for not displaying more sympathy here.
