High grade signal source & material collecting: I'm missing something, please help....

Interesting but I wanted the exploration data and self-destructing to be magically transported just seems like gaming it. Knew about the tactic but explicitly chose not to. I do like your tip about the mats trader just in case I mess up.
I decided my mission was to max out all 3 mats types. No way was I going to do it the hard way.

I recently finished a run of elements farming to max out all the grades, using the crystal forests at the HIP 36601 and Outotz LS-K d8-3 systems. They are indeed A LOT faster than any other method, and work for everything except Selenium. These systems are 1500ly away from the bubble, and only 400ly apart, so not too far away. Just find a biological site with flat terrain (don't bother with difficult ones), and you max a grade 5 element in a single log of around 30-40 minutes.

Now off to look for Selenium on the Col 359 Sector Wo-o B49-4 planet 2 E A. There are supposed to be some geo sites there that yield a lot of selenium. Another 1500ly to go, but i like travelling in deep space! ;)

@Vanquish383 Thanks for the references. I saw a useful video from Down To Earth Astronomy that mentioned the same systems. I'm out there now. It's a great experience! Out of caution, I brought a 2nd SRV and I'm glad I did. I carelessly thrusted and wedged a tire in between spikes, forcing me to self-destruct the 1st SRV. The image shows the remains after self-destruct. Overall, I'd recommend the trip for anyone that hasn't filled their raw material coffers.

You don't have to self destruct your SRV if you get stuck!
I got jammed several times recently doing all the Crystal Shards spots and I simply logged off (completely, not to main menu), logged back in and my SRV was sitting nearby where I was last.

I would just like to point out that the moon on which Jameson's crash site is located also has around a dozen geologic features and it's sister moon has well over a dozen geologic features. Seriously folks, if you want to kill two birds with one stone, head there and get your fill of both raw and data!

Despite I'm following the guide provided by several YouTubers that basically say this:

  • Federation: Core Dynamics Composites
  • Alliance / Independent in War ou Civil War: Military grade alloy & Military Supercapacitor
  • Alliance / Independent in Civil Unrest: Improvised Components
  • Imperial in Election: Imperial Shielding
  • Alliance / Independent in Outbreak Pharmaceutical Isolators
  • Alliance / Independent in Boom: Proto-radiators
  • Alliance / Independent in Expansion: Proto-radiolic alloys

IF I find a High Grade signal source (too ofter happens that even if the system has a population of billions, no signals are found) the only thing that I ALWAYS find are the following materials:
  • Military Grade Alloys
  • Proto Light Alloys & Proto Radiolic Alloys
  • Proto Heat Radiators (only if I'm lucky)
First of all, I'd like to know how it is possible that some materials like Military grade and Improvised Components theoretically can be found in the same combination of systems? and then.... how the hell is possible I cannot find never what I need? who is the genius that designed this lovely grinding method? Why there isn't any method to locate a system where to farm? Why farming has to be some frustrating?

There must be something I'm missing. Could someone highlight me? How it is possible that is so hard and so unpredictable?! and what the hell was the need to add all those materials?!

Thank you.
I filled everything doing the following :

ENCODED- Jameson crash site(HIP 12099 1B),log to main menu and back, when full convert at mat trader

RAW-
HIP 36601 C4A - SEL
HIP 36601 C1A - POL
HIP 36601 C1D - RUTH
HIP 36601 C3B - TELL
HIP 36601 C5A - TECH
OUT OTZ LS-K D8-3 B5A - YTT
OUT OTZ LS-K D8-3 B5C - ANT
when full convert at mat trader

HGE stuff-
FED none/elec CORE DYN COMP
EMP none/elec IMP SHI
ALL/IND war/civil war MIL GRADE ALL/MIL S CAPS
ALL/IND boom PRO RAD and PRO HEAT
when full convert at mat trader

I tried relogging but to no avail - still stuck. I suppose I could have logged into base ED then back into Horizons ED to recover but I had a 2nd SRV so gaming the SRV didn't seem right. Besides, I ended up with a cool photo of my charred SRV next to the crystal shards.

Like many things in ED, there are issues with how it works... In other words, HGEs only partially work. Pharm Isolators for example are all but unobtainable except via exchange at a material trader... Good luck and enjoy the broken game 🤫😛🙃

All the guides are outdated plus some bugs prevent to find related Materials where they should be,as of now go to Crystal Shards for Raw,go to Jameson crash site for Encoded, for Manufactired go to: Imperial systems Imperial Shieldings (G5),go to War/Civil war/Civil unrest for Military Mats (G4/5),go to boom systems for a mix of two/three G4/5 different Mats, that's all basically, after that visit Material Traders and replenish all the rest, rinse and repeat.
