Holy asteroid! That mapping credits!

So...

I have just returned from my quick journey. About a year ago while on my route to the center of the galaxy I found that one system. It contained 2x WW and single ELW, binary system. Unexplored. So I grabbed it for myself, discovered all and then surface scan every piece out there. Fast forward to 12.12.3304 I went to revisit "my" system. Travel distance is 4,891.86 LYs so about 80 jumps one way in my new and badly optimized Krait Phantom. One hour and 15 minutes of jumping and honking.

Yesterday I arrived and proceeded to surface map with new probe mechanic. Probing alone is quite nice, the only real issue was with actually getting within launch range. Luckily system isn't large so it went pretty smooth. Since system contains one landable moon, I ofc had to leave the foot mark on surface. Landed, admired the view, made few photos and went sleep. Today I made all the way back and sold the data to see if I were lucky enough to grab "mapped by" tag.

And I did. It's now official, CMDR Shiro Akai has claimed whole system.

And the point of this announcement: credit profit from fully mapping the system was 13,020,852 Cr! 13M! Woo hoo!
On top of nearly 3M I got from discovering and scanning it a year ago.

Overall I earned 20M from the whole trip. Full scan of one system, the rest of ~150 I visited was just honk. I must say - I like the new payouts.

Congrats.

Yeah, new system seems great for selective world cherry picking credit farming exploration.

Unfortunately, this has almost nothing to do with how I like to go about exploration. It's just a nice side bonus.

I did something similar, fully mapping the system with my KS names station, followed by a system in the Parrot's Head where I found my first ELW all those years ago , then a few odds and sods on the way back. Netted well over ten million for a handful of bodies. It almost feels as though exploration may now be paying too much in terms of credits per hour compared with other professions, although as the mapped bubble expands there will obviously be more uneventful journey time out and back to get to the unclaimed stuff.

Still, I never felt the desire to explore for profit before. Now that the payouts for interesting systems are so significant, and the auto-scanning of stars as you pass through systems (even though I don't like the mechanic) adds free cash to the tally, it becomes much more viable to do it for reasons other than selfies and tags.

No way I just passed through your system a few hours ago (I'd recognise those two water worlds anywhere) on the way to colonia. Small galaxy
