Horizons Home Systems! The Art of Finding!,

Ok guys, i've read a Load of threads on the topic, everyone has a suggestion, everyone has fond memories of that first system they popped their gameplay style cherry in. But I'm not -looking- for that, that heavy      needs to find you. What i'm looking for is cold hard, logical thinking.

What -should- you look for in a "Jack of all trades" home system?, I'm currently unaffiliated, have no "Political/Factional Aspirations" so the where is a great big lot of Space. I have no "End Game" line of professional Thinking. I like to trade, i like to dog fight with ships smaller and far insuperior to my own, i like to hover around planets, and randomly bump into USS. I don't have an "Aim" is what i'm getting at, right now i'm doing everything for anyone. So i can't use that as an anchor for finding a good place,

so short of "It has some nice Views" which restricts me to a mere 400 million systems or so....... Any advice?

I just switched homes from my fighting place in the heart of hudsons space to my mining spot in Volciates, on the edge of the powerplay bubble.

it has around 25 landable planets, a few gasgiants with REsites, pristine rings, metallic, rocky and ice. there is an high tech system next door for some modules.
and atm the main faction is booming... so making money goeslike crazy.

And it is high security.. allways nice.

Just take a place you like.

I know, kind of a stupid advice but really, thats about it. Myself I don't even know why the place I call home has become my home, it just happend over time while playing. Not that it has all the stuff like RES sites and whatnot but you normaly can find them just one jump away somwhere.

I have 2 home systems.
Maybe 3, but I don't have time to decide on the 3rd just now... Jaques needs help.
You want a high-tech, high population system (for ships & modules) preferably with a discount, several different types of landable planets/moons, a pristine metallic ring system and a black market.
A rare commodity is a bonus.

It also depends on what you like to do. If you are an explorer, pick a system on the edge of the bubble that has decent outfitting. If you like mining, find a system with pristine asteroid fields. If you like to be where there are a lot of people pick one where a lot of people go. If you like stealing stuff, pick one with a black market.

Remember your home system doesn't need to be brilliant at everything as long as you have some other good systems nearby.

A good home system will have a lot of other systems relatively close by. This not only reduces the need for high range FSDs in your ships, but the factions often overlap and allow you to become allied with several systems at the same time.

I choose Altair as my Federation home base for this reason. Just punch it up on the Galaxy Map and take a look at what else is within a 20Ly jump. Most systems are half that distance away, including Vega, Sol, Sirius, Procyon and many other large systems. ;)

Vaka. Spellable, easy to enter in the Galmap.

Imperial so you can rank up for the best ships.
High Tech for parts, high population for trade, good shipyard selection but no Pythons, Rez sites for bounties or basic mining, Boom state. Extractable planetside materials in system to make Jumponium. Close to Dvorsi with Yttrium for jump drives.

Cons: far from many Engineers, no high level mining areas, strong security so hard to do piracy, no smuggling missions spawn here.

Of course, if you want a criminal career it is always best to not pollute where you drink from.

HR 6421 - Refinery and industrial system, and Serebrov terminal has a good range of ships/modules
High tech system next door (Jitabos)
Not for from the edge of the bubble for explorers
Pristine metallic rings less right outside the station for miners

I didn't think there were many populated systems outside of power play :S

Come to Michel!

We constucted a Playergroup named Likedeeler and build up our reputation far away from Pomerplay.

Just a lot of fun and well paying Missions, because you bulid up your reputation fast.

We are doing this just for a few months, but we expand every four weeks.

We call this our home

1) An uncontrolled system (they do exist). High population. High or Medium sec.
2) Lots of local factions but no player faction.
3) A high tech system within a few jumps
4) A system with pristine reserves within there-and-back range of your mining ship (so you don't have to refuel or carry a scoop)
5) A system with a well-stocked shipyard nearby.
